holy shit, tomorrow I am buying a new laptop
The apple store has a deal now where you get a free ipod touch when you buy a laptop from them (if you are a college student)
@ I use macs at school but have always owned pcs at home
I love both!
MAC MAC MAC. Get a Mac! :D
I have a PC and I hate it so... But I can't afford a Mac... yet.
yeah, they're pricey...
specially because I'm gonna want that a separate wireless keyboard and mouse.... it's gonna add up fast
I don't know why anyone would prefer a Mac above a PC. It just doesn't make sense to me. edit I suppose it does make sense if you know nothing about computers.
Macs are for artists.
PCs are for people who want to do other things besides do art stuff.
I've always had PC's, so i wouldn't really know whats better but PC's are cheaper,
also yay free ipod touch!!! XD
"Macs are for artists."
haha I'm a graphic design major :P it's why I use them so much at school :)
I'd definitely go with a mac - if one one reason only. NO VIRUSES. I've heard they do exist, but in four years of owning a mac, I've never seen one or been affected by one. And I hated constantly having to update my virus software when I owned a PC, or download many different virus programs because a new virus would appear that my current virus software didn't guard against.
Also, applecare is amazing. My own macbook recently crashed (3 years of constant use, a bit of bashing around and overheating took its toll!) and apple replaced my hard drive - and upgraded it by 20GB, gave me the new operating system, and replaced the front cover of my macbook because there was a chip in it! All for free!
Macs are even becoming game accessible now. I mean, the only game I play is The Sims, (which is available on the mac) but I've seen a lot more games being made too.
[Edit] Woah, plus a free ipod touch? SOLD. The ipod Touch is amazing! GET THE MAC!
I grew up using PCs, I understand how they work, they feel comfortable to me.
I used to use macs in school, however I always found them confusing!
Which do you feel more comfortable using, which do you think will be most useful to you?
and macs arent virus-repelling super machines. there just arent as many viruses for macs as there are for PCs, since most people have them. idk, if you have a mac and you go around thinking youre immune to viruses, youll probably feel like shit for being so careless if/when mac viruses become widespread.
really, you should only get viruses if you do something stupid. i think the last time i ever had a virus was when i was really young and dumb and didnt know wtf i was doing.
oh, and i do my art shit just fine on my pc c:
MAC ALL THE WAY
our school gave us a Mac Book
I used to have a PC, and whenever people would ask me I would say PC is better. But then, I actually got a Mac, and wow is it ever better. I love my Mac so much :)
I use a PC desktop and a mac laptop. I prefer the mac, it works faster and doesn't require mage skill healing all the bloody time, but you get a whole load more computer for your money (if less pretty :P) if you go for a pc.
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
I've used PCs all my life, so making the switch to Mac would be a task I really wouldn't want to have to deal with. I'm very happy with my PC, it does everything I need it to do- and hey, I'm an "artist"! Sure, Macs are sexy, and you could get a free iPod, but.. idk. I personally don't like the OS. Viruses are fairly easy to avoid if you know what you're doing and have the right software, so it's really not a matter of WELL MACS ARE JUST BETTER.
Goood.
I dont care enough. People always get into wars. I spend my life on the computer, yes... but I could care less which one. :3
It really doesn't matter anymore. Check what's on the inside of the computer; not the brand name. Make sure you have a processor and ram that can handle what you plan on doing with your computer. Make sure you have a big enough HD that you can store all your information, and the video card will handle all the stuff you throw at it.
That stuff is important, not "Mac or PC" Personally I prefer PC desktops because I can piece it together myself. I'd get a Mac laptop simply because of the new eco-friendly design... But that's probably the only reason.
If I bought a laptop, I'd probably crash it with all the stuff I download. D: Besides, I love the crapity old PC I'm on now. c;
HEY THERE'S A TL;DR AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS SO FEEL FREE TO SKIP DOWN.
I'm just much more comfortable with the Mac. It's not that the PC doesn't do the same thing, it's just that, for the Mac, the software is better. There's more programs accessible to the Mac for art and whatnot than there is to the PC. FinalCut Pro is what I use for my film editing and dear god, I can't believe I ever used anything else for it. It works so well with Sony Vegas Pro. As for graphics, sure there's Photoshop for the PC, but there's a bigger area for it.
Plus, with a PC, to get a really good graphics card, you'd have to pay extra for it, or get a specialized computer. Gaming computers are REALLY good for graphics editing since they offer the latest and greatest cards already... But, they usually are a little more expensive. The Mac doesn't really offer graphics cards that can compare to some things like Alienware, but they are good. The MacBook Pro has an amazing graphics card that is separate from the actual memory of the computer. It runs on its, giving you more memory and less of that 'used up space'.
As for data, that's a problem with the PC sometimes. You have to download SO much for it to work sometimes. This virus protector, this update, this program for this, this program for that, and sometimes multiple programs for the same exact thing. I've liked the Mac because I don't NEED a virus protector, plus, like I said before, I need fewer graphics programs to do all the jobs I need.
For how they look, I ADORE the Macs. The laptops are sleeker and I like the GUI design better. They seem to flow better for me. Sure, it takes a little bit of getting used to, but it's sooo wonderful once you get the hang of it. The dock at the bottom is more convenient for me than the Start Button and the Toolbar of a PC. The small functions like moving the mouse to the upper left hand corner to see EVERYTHING I am doing is better than clicking through tabs to sometimes have to find the things I need.
Updates with the Mac are fewer and farther between because... well, they work better, really. There are less viruses for the Mac and this is a fact. The fact that they do not open .exe files makes your computer MUCH safer, but it does somewhat suck because some things... you just can't. fucking. open.
So, not everyone just screams MACS ARE JUST BETTER without real reason. There are actual reasons that the Mac is better for some people.
TL;DR: since you're a graphic design major, I suggest going with a MacBook Pro b/c it has a great graphics card, requires less programs to do everything, comes equipped with iLife which is a GREAT start, and plus, the free iPod Touch is an awesome bonus, lol. GOOD LUCK.
