Macs are better. I have had experience with both types of computers (obviously).

For those of you saying that Macs aren't 'virus-proof' and that it's just luck (or that they don't have a large market share) that's true, but it's also misleading. OS X is built on Unix foundations, and as such, is generally speaking a lot safer than windows.

Not only that, but OS X is a 'modern' operating system. It was rebuilt from the ground up with OS 10.0 and has continued to push the envelope. Whereas Windows is still using code from 10+ years ago, and is really just... bulky and weighed down.

To be honest, while macs are gorgeous computers, I would never buy one for that. The operating system is what makes them worth a million dollars. I can do everything on my Mac that I could do on my PC, and a ton more ;).

Macs are even becoming game accessible now. I mean, the only game I play is The Sims, (which is available on the mac) but I&;ve seen a lot more games being made too.

I'm sure playing games on macs is cool as long as you don't decide on downloading mods or the like. :p Besides, the mac will never be as game friendly as the PC, which if you know how to treat nicely will last you a while, is cheaper, and you can mess around with the specs yourself or you're more likely to find someone who can more easily than with a mac.

I mean, if you wanna be trendy and crap, go with a mac. If you want more bang for your buck and you're not a moron who downloads crap or visits crap websites with a bad antivirus system you should do fine with a PC.

And for anyone who wants to brag about macs not having viruses, shut up. In five years when macs are more popularized and prevalent you'll start seeing viruses and shit. It's just not a target right now because PCs have been around forever.

I've not used Macs much before, so I'm not the most educated on the topic. Personally, I can't see myself buying a Mac anytime soon though.

They're probably better than my PCs in that they look better, have fewer viruses, and (might?) run a bit smoother and faster. They're supposed to crash less, although I personally haven't had that at all recently with my systems. Overall they're supposed to be more user friendly, and would almost definitely be the better choice if you're not a computer nerd.

But they're also expensive, it's difficult to replace parts (or, for me, have my dad replace parts), and there's issues with software and hardware compatibility. With Macs you're basically stuck with what you get, with PCs you can customize it to what you need. Also, for laptops, I'm pretty sure the battery life of my ThinkPad (six hours or so) is better than most Mac laptops.

I'm personally not into computer games, but PCs are supposed to be way better in that area. In addition to the whole obvious software compatibility issue, the graphics quality tends to be better, I believe.

My take on it is basically that Macs are better for the basic uses of a computer, given that you're willing to spend a bit more on good looks. PCs are better for anything more involved.

iPod Touches are nice though. I got one recently and I love it.

MAC.

They're very reliable, fast, and you get a free Ipod touch. ;)

BUT, if you're really addicted to PC games, you can always download Windows on you're mac, and have acess to both stuffz.

Think of this:

MACS:

  • no viruses
  • but you have to download everything mac. And if there isn't a version for mac, you're screwed. It gets really. really. really. annoying.

PCs:

  • you are more prone to viruses
  • you don't have things like photobooth, garageband, genius, iphoto, etc.

I think Macs would be better for your studies .. if you're a college student. There are a lot more applications on there to help your work.

I never understood this either. Why? All the &;artists&; I know have a Mac because all the &;artists&; they know have one, not because they can&;t do what they&;re doing on a PC.
Because thats just how they're made. They advertise Macs for music and art. They have great programs for these things. Photoshop is a MAC program that was made for PC eventually.

I use a PC because i do other things besides art related stuff. I may be a vis comm. major, but i wouldn't buy a mac. Unless it was cheaper and better then a PC i was looking at.

Besides, im a gamer as well, and its pretty much impossible to do some good gaming on a Mac.

ugh i'm not good with computer so i wouldn't really know but i hate hate hate macs. my dad wanted to buy me a mac (like we could afford it rofl) but we used them in school and they were way hard. maybe pc is better for idiots like me but mac seems lame, maybe it's better for artists but who cares, i think that's a pretentious statement. you can draw on a pc too. if you're careful with a pc you won't get viruses ether, and if you go on unsafe porn sites that give you 1231930 million viruses you'll probably infect both a mac and a pc. but an itouch is cool. THAT'S A TOUGHIE!

UPDATE!!!!

well, I just got home with my new 20 inch iMac....

I went in the store thinking about the macbook pro, but the screen was a miserable 13 inches hahaha It ended up being the same price to get the 20 inch screen, plus I got 2.66GHz and a 320GB hd instead of 2.53GHz with 250GB hd. I already have another laptop I can take around in case of emergencies, so it's no biggie that this one is a desktop :)

I'm still drooling here... and I haven't even opened the ipod touch yet @

Give me anything that you use on the PC, and I'll tell you what program I use for it on the mac. I can garuntee that it looks better (which isn't important :P), and runs the same or better. If it's a game, I just switch over to VMWare to play it (or bootcamp if it's something that requires a lot of processing power) which is no problem at all ;).

Er... Macs have been around longer than... PCs?

Actually, Macs (at least the new macbook pro's) have the best batteries of any laptop at the moment. Granted, you can't take them out and replace them, but you just send them in to the apple store and get them replaced. It gets you 3+ more hours of battery life (with the graphics card enabled)

Because Mac OSX is better for artist programs. It has underlying techology like Quartz that just makes things like Photoshop run better. Also, photoshop was originally written specifically for macs and ported to Windows up to version 7 I believe, now they're done both ways.

All in all, it comes down to what you value software at. Windows comes with ... nothing useful. A bunch of spam applications. Mac OSX comes with garage band (make cool music), iPhoto (upload all of your pictures, facial recogination, etc, keep track of them on facebook/flickr/etc), iMovie (make movies, edit them, etc) and generally useful applications out of the box.

My one issue with Macs are the fierce fanboys... o_o

PCs can run OSx, and Macs can run Windows. So I really don't see the point in arguing anymore.

PCs for customizability, Macs for having a super amazing computer that looks pretty already.

Actually, the new Macbook Pro's have pretty nice graphic cards in them :) (And integrated graphics in case you want to save battery, you can switch between the two)

Right, it has a graphics card, for running things like... games.

And then, you can switch to integrated graphics when you're doing something like... browsing the internet.

Saving your battery.

I don't get how people can be confused by a Mac. Is it the clicks? Command button is basically the control button. Command + C to copy, Command + X to cut, Command + P to cut. 'Right Click' using the control button.

Only problem I'm having with the Mac right now is that I can't get Google Chrome and the Chrome layout for Firefox is dumb. :P

I don't know if this was mentioned yet but...

What can't a Mac do that a PC can? -Right click. I don't like Mac mice D:

I'm also just so used to the PC layout of things that using the Macs that I have at my school seems so odd for me.

Yeah, uhm, you're wrong. You simply press the 'control' button while clicking the mouse. WOAH RIGHT CLICK-STYLE ON A MAC? NOWAI. XD Sorry, but a lot of people don't realize that!
