Dear CC,

I notice that a lot of users post that they are rather inept at socializing in RL (even though a lot of them are pretty popular on Subeta). So, I was wondering what your rules are for socializing in RL and on the internet.

For me, rules for rl would be; -smile -full attention to the speaker -know when to be silent -friendly greetings -intelligent humour -complimenting others (not going over-board on this)

On the net, they would be; -if you have nothing to say, don't say it. -not being crazy aggressive. -trying to start thought provoking convos. -having a couple of boards that you visit more often. -having a nice forum set (which I obviously lack though it's nice for aesthetic reasons) -not using chatspeak.

My rules are the same as yours except one -if you start being nosy or acting like we're best friends and we're not, I will ignore you. Not to be rude but it ticks me off when you are in my face all the time and you read what im typing. If you are rude to me I will be rude back.

also, the internet is much much much much different from RL. if i dont have anything nice to say, or the conversation turns awkward for me, i just leave. try just walking away from an actual conversation with no warning.

but for here, don't be a cunt about grammar. you just look bitter and nitpicky imo.

yea, and there are more people to talk to when you're on subeta so you wont have to worry about if your blushing or whatever.

I remember on Gaia, there was this girl that like, attacked me because I accidentally wrote something like "dn't" instead of "don't" and she insisted on looking up each and every one of her words from the dictionary so she could sound all up herself. And I'm thinking, wow, you're about 12?

ugh. it happens here too. like, when it comes to spelling a hard word, who cares.

there's a thread floating around about what religion you are, and the OP made a mistake about the origin of a religion. a user corrected her politely, and that i dont mind, but it pisses me off when users correct in this "UM, DUH" manner.

As for as RL rules for socializing:

Don't ask somebody a question then interrupt them while they're answering to ask another.

If you're in the middle of a conversation and your cellphone rings, it's okay to excuse yourself and check to see who's calling, it may be an emergency. If it's NOT an emergency, or an important call, it's not polite to answer and leave your face to face conversation just hanging. If you do have to take the call, at least have the courtesy to apologize to the person you were speaking with and inform them what's going on so you can deal with the crisis as quickly as possible.

In Real Life, there's only one rule I stick to;

Use common sense.

On the internet;

It's every man for himself. Unless you buy get an internet clique.

lol I suck at socializing everywhere. irl I'm shy and very quiet. I don't like speaking my mind and I'm afraid I'll be a jerk if I say what I'm thinking. As for online, I try not to be outright rude all the time, but it's.. the internet.

I'm sort of the opposite.

I'm fine with socializing IRL and I have plenty of friends, but online, especially on Subeta, I'm like... socially retarded. REALLY socially retarded. Like I never know how to talk to people or keep a conversation going. I always feel awkward complimenting people's pets or HAs or whatever, although I do try.

I'd say I'm much ebtter socializing in rl then on the net. Though I've gotten better(?) and I have friends on here.

i think i just fail @ both real life and the internet. :* irl i just try and nod and listen, i'm not much of a talker, pretty much most conversations are started by others not me. i try to be nice but sometimes it's just so HARD fdfs. i think in rl i might come off as a weird anti-social jerk who idk, eats kittens or something. which is probably how i come off as here too. i'm nice, like on the inside. deep down. somewhere in my gut :(

i have no problem with talking to people IRL.

i guess people just find it easier to talk to people over the interw3bz because they're hiding behind a computer screen and well, they can do whatever the fuck they please since nobody can really... idk? attack them?

oh, and btw, firefox didn't put a little red squiggly under ''interw3bz.'' that's so awesome. ^____________^;

I'm also on the opposite side, I don't really talk personally to people on here, but I socialize pretty well offline.

I'd say that you shouldn't be all in someone's face when speaking, a good foot or so away is fine enough. I hate it when people are in my personal space, and on top of that, they have serious halitosis.

I'm better at socializing in Real life, to be honest. I have about.. 2-3 online friends and a whole clique in Real Life and other cliquest that like me. On the internet, I'm socially retarded. Hooray. :P

As for socializing rules, I don't have any. I just try to be myself and not make rude comments unless it will be taken humorously.

I'm socially inept both in real life and on subeta.
