First you need to know if your computer and your other computer both have network cards.
If they do all you need is a cat5 cable. plug one end into one computer and the other end into the other computer.
Then run the network wizard on both computers.
:) Hope this helps.
OOORR
You could always install another harddrive into your pc if you have a spare, then copy your music onto that, then format.
With my shitty computer. I did a virus scan and I apparently have 397 infections that my previous (yet shitty) software didn't pick up.
So I decided that I'm just going to wipe it out and start it all over.
The problem is, I have all sorts of music (1300+ songs), pictures (couple hundred at least), and videos all stored on it.
How can I store all of that on one of our other computers while I clear mine out? What would I need to do to transfer it without the hassle of inserting, reinserting x213312 a flash drive? Are there any special chords I can buy?
Links to products that may help would be greatly appreciated. :)
I'd really like to keep it as cheap as possible :P
I'd buy a external USB drive and copy everything to that. Big one. 500 gb or so ought to hold everything.
collecting How do I know if they have a network card?
And about your other option, if I put everything on the other harddrive, and I wipe my computer out, will all my stuff be saved?
You can open your computer, or have a look at the device manager on your computer. (right click on my computer, select properties, then hardware, it will have device manager in there) It should show it in there somewhere.
If you put everything on your other hardrive and only format the one with the viruses. Then yes, your stuff will be safe. UNless of course you have viruses on that hardrive too.
You need to reinstall windows again, though. You have the disc, right?
Another option you have is learning how to partition your hardrive, so that it essentially becomes two, you then can format part of your harddrive, but not the other.
Don't ask me how to do that, because I'm not sure on how to do it, even though I've seen it done a million times.
EDIT- OR what Razzberrie said- Seems easier. :P
It is better to have an external hard drive (SATA ones doesn't require a power) that is plug-and-play USB. 100-500gb is great to hold that amount of pics and music. And no it won't loose your files.
Another option if you have an old hard drive you can ask for a comp shop to have it turn into an external USB drive. At least that is cheaper and you can use an old hard drive :)
Another one is like Sultry said. You can have a partition or the network :)
Use a online storage, like Mozy I think works (Sorry for mentioning another site, Subeta). There are a lot of other programs you can use via internet. When in doubt- use a flash drive!
Sultry: On my mom's crappy laptop, whenever I try to right-click, it gives me this: Runtime error blahblahblahblah
Terminate this blahblahblah
So, in short, it sucks, so I need to find another way to find the network card on this stupid Vista laptop.
Mine's an old XP btw
Sapphi: Are there any really good brands? Or will just any one with enough GB do the trick? 'Cause right now, I'm looking at a Seagate one.
Jasher: You're allowed to mention other sites on here :P They aren't the Nazis that Neopets is (are?) XD
Ewww
Your mums laptop needs a reformat too. I ahte those fucking errors. I've not as yet figured them out.
My guess is that it probably does have a network card. Most Pc and laptops do these days.
Just connect the cable and run the wizard anyway. Networks are handy, so even if you dont use it like right away, you can in the furture.
Ps- Seagate is a good stable brand.
