Today I got an email from paypal telling me that a buyer used their bank account to retract a payment, and everything the bank did was outside of their control. (basically they were taking the money back and I couldn't do anything about it)

I finished that commission more than two weeks ago.

what pisses me off the most is that I already went out of my way to get it done when I still had finals, and I even gave this person a price break since they didn't have enough for a fullbody.

Paypal would let me refute the claim because it only has three options "I agree to this settlement" "I already provided a refund" "I already shipped with tracking evidence"

for refund and tracking evidence, you need an actual code for them to accept your refute. If this has happened to anyone else here with RL commissions, with the same commissioner, I wouldn't be too surprised. It seems like they "vanished" after grabbing a few artists in their buying thread.

Have they been on the site at all? They might just be off the computer and didnt know about the banking thing? Maybe?

I know some artists take payment upfront. You'd sacrifice customers and be completely obligated to the picture, but at least you'd know you'd get paid.

I asked for the payment upfront, and it was sent. but now it has been retracted and taken out of my balance again. They haven't posted on subeta since their art thread :/ but they would've had to have gone to the bank and asked them to take action themselves, since the email stated " We were recently notified that one of your buyers asked their bank to reverse a payment made to you. Although a bank reversal may appear to be similar to a PayPal claim, it is actually a process initiated outside of PayPal and controlled by the buyer's bank. The buyer indicated to the bank that the purchase was made without their consent. Please provide some additional information to help the bank determine if the buyer's claim is valid."

problem is that the resolution center wont let me post anything other than "oh I accept this"

WOW I am STUNNED to hear that can actually happen on paypal. Fortunately i havent experienced this before but i could understand how freaking upsetting this would be. Just hearing about it happening to you made my blood boil. Would it still have happened if you withdrew the money from the account to your bank account?

If these users keep flooding subeta, I'm afraid that our free-spirited artists boards will be threatened by people like who you've described. I'll be sad if we can't do commissions because of a few scammers. Hopefully the problem can be contained before it gets out of control. :C

Hmm... perhaps you could try watermarking previews for the future. I'm terribly sorry about this. It's some of those stupid people that ruins the life of artists and other buyers.
