Just a quick update on the rules, especially for the forums. From this point forward, Caps and Punctuation rules are no longer standing around the site.

If you have received a warning in the past for either of these, it is now null. (It'll still show up on your preferences page, but it will not count toward being frozen in the future).

Lets look back to when we took away chat speak.

OH, right. It didn't really effect anything. Forums were back to normal a day later.

Don't underestimate subeta users.

I guess some of you don't realize that Keith wouldn't have done this if he didn't have any trust in us. So pretty much he TRUSTS us not to abuse this. This is just an educated guess, and also the fact that a lot of people would be warned for having one or two words capped, either on accident or on purpose (acronyms or to emphasize a word, or even to just be slightly silly)

I don't think we'll suffer at all from this, if anything it'll benefit us, especially for B&C and debate forums. So, you people going "ohnoes the forums are going to be terrible now " aren't putting trust into your fellow subetians and- what kind of community is that? Not a very good one....

No idea what happened to my previous post. oO;; Anyways...

THANK GOD!!! I have two warnings for caps and I was getting nervous because I really couldn't handle being frozen, especially for such an idiotic rule. Sometimes, the only way to express oneself is through yelling and online, yelling equals caps. So thank you staff, for my freedom to yell as I see fit!

This is rather unexpected - was there a reasoning behind it? And would I be right to assume that this is all under the condition that the Capslock is within reason?

I'm sort of 50/50 on it. It's nice that things are a bit more lenient. Everyone slips up, and it seems silly to get an account frozen over caps and punctuation warnings if you're an otherwise decent person.

Although, abusing the language -is- a shun-worthy offense in many cases. ;3

Anyway, I'm sure some of these folks are right. The novelty will wear off and people will chill.

I am for one glad this rule is lifted. I had issues with my keyboard and had mistaking sent a post or two with all caps like saying PLUSHIE when Keith showed the one on cam and then accidentally sent it before i finished what I was saying. To all the grammer police out there, give me a break. This is an online game site created to have fun and relax not to be counted towards entrance to Yale or Harvard. If you are that anal retentive go over to WOW and see how awful it is over there. I see people in their 50's playing there and some of their spelling is horrible. My father (God rest his soul) had issues too. Sometimes it is because of something called a language barrier or dyslexia. You can't judge everyone the same. Just have fun and if you don't like the way someone types for the love of God, block them and then you don't have to see it!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

now I can finally say LOL or something without fear of getting frozen.

thank you, Subeta.

I love you.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

...WHY? In the name of all that is good and intelligent... WHY? The whole time I've been here, I've been reveling in the intelligence level of the Forum Posts. ...I give it a week before all the forums are nothing but a shadow of themselves now.

To everyone pitching a fit:

There's a very big line between spam posts and capslock posts. This rule wasn't helping prevent spam anyway, because acronyms weren't counted, so there's nothing preventing someone who wanted to make a scene from posting OMGLOLROFL! throughout their posts.

This really isn't that big of a change - caps won't get you warned but I'm SURE spam still will.

I didn't think that many people were getting in trouble for punctuation, and that is kind of a lame rule. Some people just can't tell a run on from a comma.

Taking away this rule is like teaching people that using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling is a bad thing. I like to think that it forced the young'uns to learn how to type and write properly. But maybe that's just me.

um, YAY??! Now some people are going to... LOLOL!1!!1! Doesn't that look silly? It can be annoying and to be honest, I'm disappointed at the lifting of the caps rule. It kept the forums neat, and all along I thought that you only use caps to emphasize your point or, displeasure - i.e. shouting - which is rather rude, if I might add... Ah well, you're the boss Keith, but I really hope that you would re-think your decision. :/

I think this is a great change! I believe most users on the site are smart enough not to abuse this privilege, because if they do then it will likely be reinstated. Although, I'm not much of a forum participant myself, so I might not know exactly what I'm talking about.

I think this at least needs to be limited to posting long strings of things in capitals. I mean a few words could be fine but everything in caps is kind of annoying :c (though I'm one to talk, sometimes I have whole conversations with people on msn in capslock...heh)

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Yes, thank you! This pleases Media. xD I'm not really too crazy with the CAPS LOCK or the StIcKy CaPs, so it's all good in the Subeta.

I mentioned in a chat thread I hang out in that this doesn't really hurt anyone by recinding these rules. For one, there are many people whose first language is not English, so punctuation and grammar rules make them less likely to post for fear of reprisals.

As to caps, it will still be obvious who is doing it to be annoying and spammy and they can still be reprimanded under spam rules.

Cool. I actually like this rule. It gives me a chance to scream in angst and frustration on the boards without people getting pissy. And for those people who are worried about this bringing an onslaught of needless shouting, don't worry so much. I was worried about the onslaught of needless cursing once the profanity filter got a disable option, but it didn't happen. Chances are people will use capital letters in moderation just as they use profanity in moderation, since the inhabitants of this site are -- at least in large part -- teenagers and adults, and are therefore more mature than the average child. (I usually type in full capitalised sentences with proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation anyway, but my point still stands.)

I kind of liked the fact that Subeta had those rules - it set a communication standard that you didn't see on the other pet sites. I guess not everyone felt that way.

i couldnt agree more! the forums on an other site are a total drag from there being no rules like this!
