The Serpenths, seeing the Aeries fussing over each other in the treetops around Subeta, grew jealous--just slightly jealous, they claim.
Without a word, they all slithered off into the night (much to the joy of the smaller species, who would finally have a bit of rest without fear of being eaten), leaving many owners confused as to the whereabouts of their beloved pets.
But of course, they've returned--and brought a surprise with them. No one is quite certain where those patterns came from, but they seem a bit attached.
What do you think?

I like it, but I think that the wings are kind of disproportional, there's a bit too much hair, and the eyes don't have enough detail.

Other than that, it's great.

I know i'm in the minority but o love the clean lines of the current (old) serpenth. i will miss the old one when it goes away. but at least i can get rid of mine and make room for a Lain!

hmmm looks good
the expression has a bit of a hidden slyness about it imo
but I think the hair could have been... less or not as flowing at least, but it still looks good

Hodang! The art is magnificent. But they do look like they have a bit too much hair, and the expression is just too... kind. O.o Weird, but it doesn't look like a true serpent's expression. I always disliked that about the old Serpenths and had hoped it would be corrected in the future redraw.

I like it, although I'd like it more if it had a bit less hair and if the base of the left wing wasn't so bulky.

But over, I like it. I think it's nice the way the expression looks friendly but not sappy or cartoony.

Ooo... I created Wildfyre because I liked the way the Reborn looks. But now, I love this Common color. Will the Reborn be redrawn if the revamp is approved? Wildfyre was meant to be Reborn, and I don't want him downgraded...

Alewiina, I'm allowed to express my opinion. I handle birds and wildlife every day; I know bird wing anatomy. I'm not saying the wings on the revamp aren't better; far from it, they're a definite improvement, but still not quite right. What I said was they still need to be brushed up further to achieve maximum effect. I don't mean to offend, I mean to educate. Besides, it doesn't matter who you are or what you do, everything and anyone has room for improvement.

Amazing. I've never wanted a Serpenth before, but now.... I need one. NEED IT. Badly.

Overall I think the art is great... but I want to touch on how everyone is saying that teh wings should be higher. It should be taken into account that the serpenth is basically a long, flexible hose. If you put wings at the front of the hose, you'll have a lot of drag where the tail end will hang down into the air, and inhibit flying.
If, however, the wings are more towards the center, it would help stabilize the front and back, and create less drag.
...that is, anatomically speaking. As well as the wing size, if we were to go into whether the wings could support it... any smaller and they wouldn't.
I seem to notice a definite "more-realistic" trend with a lot of redraws, and I'd say this one definitely takes the cake in that. It looks entirely believable to me. :3 Great job!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

oh yes, it is an improvement. i like the new pose and the wings. and they do look a lot more natural, but i think the colors are a little too much like the new aeries were supposed to be (by the way, what happened to that?) i like the earthy, rattlesnake feel to them, but maybe they could more greenly tinted? i dunno. also, i agree with everyone about where the wings are, they could be a tad higher. i also agree with the mane, it looks a little too... greasy? shrugs all in all though, i do like it, but i think ill vote for the old one

Okay, so far (I'm probably going to start working on the kinks tomorrow)...
I'm going to remove the end tail stripes, tweak/possibly repose the wings, and redraw the mane/straighten it out some. I'll probably go for a shorter, more crestlike look closer to what the current Serpenth has.

I can also try lightening up the eyes somewhat (I think I saw someone mention that). This color scheme for common will probably be staying; please read further down for details on why that is.

I'd also like to thank everyone for all the input, critiques and comments--I worked really, reallyreallyreally hard on this revamp, and will continue to do so to try and please as many people as possible with it.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Alewiina, please stop with the "don't criticize unless you're a pro yourself" rubbish. What, you think you're never supposed to say you don't like something unless you could make it better? You've never said you don't like the food somewhere, or clothes in a shop?

OH SNAP.
Soooooooooooooo much better than the old one. I kept thinking 'When are they going to get around to revamping the Serpenth?' xD

THe wings, I think, could be placed a tad high through...they seem...too low to make the thing fly.
And the mane I think should be a tad less curly...I think it should look more like how the old one was, more slicked back than curly.

Otherwise I think it's a huge improvement~

I think the hair looks a bit cheesy/fake. Too much like a toupee... Maybe just take some of it out?

The wings are good as far as placement goes. They wouldn't really work any higher up on the body, since it's so long... The armpit feathers are kinda weird though. P=

I think its awesome. The serpenth has need a redraw for a very long time.

The only thing I dont like is are the longer feather under the wing joints, I think they look out of place.

Otherwise, I love it. The wings are beautiful, I love the face, and the new body shape is SO much more serpentine. Just awesome.

As for the people complaining about it going brown... why do you care? 99% of serpenth owners, if not all, never keep their pets common anyway o_O

Ok, this is the first revamp in at least a year that I've actually liked. Please consider my critique with that in mind.

First, the wings - actually, I think the style and position are just fine. The artist handling the Aerie revamp would do well to take an example from this. I do agree that they look too bulky, but only at the base; the proximal half looks fine.

And the mane - it starts out fine, but it's near the end/back/base of the "neck" where it starts to get too curly and shaggy and bulky. I think it'll look much more balanced if the whole mane looked as smooth and sleek as it does on the very top of the head.

The spots... I'm not so sure about those. They're not bad, but they don't really add anything to the pet, either. I'd like to see what the pet would look like without them before deciding. I do, however, think it could go without the two rings on the tail.

Otherwise, I applaud this. I was worried that a revamped Serpenth would look too bulky and muscular, like some more recent Paralix art, but I'm relieved to see that it's sleek and snake-like.

I have to agree that I'm not fond of the mane, and the position of the wings. They were drawn LOVELY, but need to be further back on the body instead of sticking out its sides. Overall, I like the new one, and DO like the brown. <3

I'm also a huge fan of the aerie redraw. <3

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by OtakuOokami

OK, here's my critique. First, the good news. The overall design is well done. The pose, shape of the head, and facial expression look perfectly serpentine. The added markings on the body, the shape of the eye, and the heightened detail on the wings add interest to the piece, so overall, good work.

Now, the bad news.

On the colors: The piece is shaded well, but I'm not too fond of the switch from black, gray, and blue to browns. The patterns are a nice addition to the pet design, but they would probably look better if they were pale blue and medium blue on the white hide. The belly could then be light blue, the mane and wings should be kept that deep silver color and the eyes should remain blue.

On the redesign of the body itself: The curl in the mane seems to be too concentrated in the back and nearly nonexistent in the front. It would look much better if the detail on the hind locks could be toned down. Also, I'm not in love with the extra long feathers under the wing joints. They look completely out of place and seem to be last minute touches if anything. Those should go all together, along with the tongue sticking out, which takes away some from the head/face.

Final Verdict: Design wise, it's an overall improvement and only needs some minor tweaks to be truly great. Color wise, going brown wasn't a good idea in my opinion, sticking to the original blue, gray, and white would be better.

I have mixed feelings about this. I like some parts and don't like others. The only thing is that I think the Serpenth is not a pet especially needing a revamp. It's a start though.

Oh my goodness. This is by far the best revamp I have yet to see on Subeta. Who drew it? It's AMAZING. I used to not care for serpenths, but if this revamp goes through I am getting one. I love the rattlesnake design and the mane looks unkempt but I like it.=) The expression is to die for, it really speaks out! Again fantastic job, and I'm probably going to get a serpenth now because of this.;D

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

It loses a lot of its original cool aspect in browns, the mane just isn't as cool because it curls down rather than floofing upwards, and the pose is not as dynamic as the old.
The color scheme itself isn't working very well, the belly is too orange and the skin too pale. It looks almost sickly and abbreviated that way.
What really bugs me is that the wings are barely an improvement; someone needs to brush up on their wing-drawing skills a little more. Why do I say this? The hair strand from the mane is apparently closer than the wing; this is an impossibility since wings should stick out a fair bit unless that hair is a yard long brushing onto the wingtip.
The feathers nearest the body on the bottom shouldn't be so haphazardly long, it doesn't look very predatory with eccentric little bad-feather-day feathers sticking out its ribs.
I think the eye needs a touch-up, I can't make heads or tails if it's supposed to be a glaring blank white eye or a big brown eye with a huge light reflection. A little more pupil, please, and perhaps having the light reflection curve with the roundness of the eye.

As a stand-alone art piece, I do like it, but if this is what's supposed to replace Serpenths, I'd much rather you revamped this one even more.
