For a long time I had a common Magnus before I changed him into chibi and... I really don't like this revamp. For being a gargoyle (personally I always thought the magnus was a dragon xD) the coloring looks more shiny than stony, but that could just be me. (the stomach especially looks kinda shiny) though the arms do have a stone feel to it. The wings look a little chunky at the top (no I'm not calling it fat, but doesn't it look a little too thick up there?) but the bottom part looks nice. And I have to agree with Yas the pose does look too similar to the Dilema.

I just... I don't like it. = I want the old one to stay and if the chibi does get redrawn I'll be changing it. I love the chibi Magnus as it is now and I'd be crushed if it were to be revamp.

(honestly I don't see why it needs to be redone. what's wrong with a side view?)

I have been wowed.

One of the BEST revamps that we have seen, it's up there with the bovyne, and I think it seems more life-like, despite the "stoney" pose, which seems to me to give it character.

It's pessimistic- sizing you up!

I love this, except that I DO NOT want the chibi one remade. Maybe we should have a poll too for the chibi?
I own a chibi magnus and I love him. =/ I know it sounds really picky and stuff, but I love the style of the Mystics chibis. xd
Though i do not object to Kelpies idea.(ealier down)

Are you sure? I thought the old one looked somewhat better... The left shoulder looks funny. The last one was cuter-ish. But I guess the wings are a slight improvement.

My thoughts are that I definately love the stony look to it, but I would prefer a bit smaller wings like someone had mentioned before. Awesome work, nonetheless! <3

Tate, I'm sorry if I offended you. I understand that you were just following orders; I guess I was just trying to understand why those were the orders. Maybe I was directing the question the wrong way...

Also, I didn't mean to imply that your version isn't detailed - you've done an amazing job with the details! The shading and facial features, especially. I have no complaint with the details that ARE part of this revamp; I'll just miss the ones that were lost when the pose was turned around. But I don't blame you for that. You've done a beautiful job with the subject matter you were given. I just personally don't think the Magnus needed to be changed, at least not in this way - but that's just my opinion, and I honestly don't mean to undermine the work you put into the revamp.

And I don't think "volcano" when I hear Magnus either... O.o Maybe just because it sort of sounds like magma? shrug I dunno, Magnus reminds me more of greatness and power and such... like Pompey Magnus. I also have a betta named Magnus... >.> <.<

I feel bad for the artists. Sometimes I think people find things to complain about because they need to complain about something. It's ridiculous.

I'm ready to ask some of you with the lesser constructive, non-sensical, comments, to redraw the pet and show it to me.

This isn't ment to be an offensive post, but I am curious to see what people come up with, no?

Yeah, I have to say, I don't think this new magnus looks alive enough. With the old version you can still get the feel like it is a gargoyle (though I never really thought of it as one. ) through the cracks along its spine. This one looks like it is made out of solid rock, and once again, I say that is looks fat!! The forearms are to thick and the legs are set too far apart. The pose is fantastic, I must admit! But... The current magnus looks like it is made out of flesh, like it is real... this new one looks like it would shatter if you dinked it with a hammer. T_T
Plus... YOU CAN'T SEE THE SPIKES IN ITS BACK!! Wahhh!
I think if this new one went on Jenny Craig and if it took a pummus stone to its skin for a few hours to smooth itself out, it would be fine and dandy!

And, more detail? Maybe you can see half the side and half the front, but I can assure you I had quite a difficult time turning the magnus around with the pose it currently has. It's impossible to tell how its body is shaped from the side, and I made up what I could on the fly, with what I had for a reference. It's a lot harder to do than you may think when your only reference is seen from the side and covering itself up with its arms.

And no, I don't think volcano when I hear magnus at all. I think "magnus, that's a cool name".

Boy, I'm breaking hearts left and right today, huh?

(and it's interesting to see how many people go "it's too different" when you turn the exact same pet around and give it teeth and some deeper shading. Heh.)

I agree angelembryo with people saying its "fat." The only reason you think it looks fat is because you seeing the front view. The current Magnus version, the "fat" is indeed hidden, you really can't say the new version is "fat."

Tategami, I'm afraid I don't understand either - why avoid side views? They allow the viewer to see more of the unique details that make a pet what it is. Like the back spikes and cool markings on the Magnus... and on any species, things like overall body structure, tails, wings, etc. show up much better in 3/4 or profile poses. Having the subject face straight forward is too static and boring, especially if EVERY pet (or close to it) ends up drawn that way. Consider real animals - where are all the cool markings and features? The spots on a leopard, the diamonds on a rattlesnake, the spiky ridge on an iguana, etc? They're along the back and sides. The belly/underside is visually the least exciting part of most animals, and if you ask me, the least flattering.

I'm not saying ALL pets should be drawn in profile; side views can be just as boring as front-facing if overused. I'd just like to see a roughly equal number of pets drawn in profile, 3/4, AND front-facing poses. Variety makes Subeta go round.

As for all the "fat" comments... I personally don't think it looks fat, but I can see why others do. With the beefed-up forearms hiding where the edges of the belly and torso should be, we really can't tell if its body is as slender as you intended it to look. That together with the chunkier arms, legs, and wing joints could easily make the pet look fatter than it actually is. That's another downside of the front-facing pose - the body structure is hidden.

Ok, I'm done now. Sorry for going on forever, and I hope this came out sounding as constructive as I meant for it to. >.o

sigh i just don't like it. :/ it's gorgeously drawn, i will definitely say that..but it's too much of a change from the current magnus. i realize that you're trying to make it more gargoyle-ish, whatever..so it should be bulkier or something..but to change it from it being so thin and lanky just makes me sad. if this does go through, sorry, but i think i'll have to change renn to something else..

I love the emotive appeal of this Magnus; it seems to have kept that same disgruntled, indifferent, moody attitude. <3

That was unexpected, but admittedly not unnecessary.
I absolutely love it. It keeps the qualities of the old magnus at the same time enhancing it and bringing back the gargoyle edge.

Its nice to see the Mangus go back to its Gargoyle roots, and with improoved anatomy and a clearer image to boot. I'm still not found of the wings, but then again the Mangus has never had wings with funtioning anatomy, haha, if you haven't guessed, disfunctional anatomy is a pet peeve for me xD But I deffinately find this an BIG improovement...

Why is that? Not to start a fight or anything, but in my personal opinion you get far more detail from a side, if not partial side view... In this redraw, you can't even see the crack-like markings on the Magnus' back... which, if for one reason only, would be what I'd say is the main draw to the pet... I mean, when you here the name 'Magnus', you general thing lava, or magma... which has the general tendency to make you think volcano, and thus you get the lovely imagery of the cracking markings on the Magnus' back looking like those on an erupting volcano... or at least that what I always got from it. Maybe I'm just weird.

Either way, I think this redraw, overall, would be a bit of a turnoff to the people who got a chance to see what the current Magnus looks like.

Its not that its poorly draw -which it isn't by any means-, its just that a lot of the original genus put into the first redraw would be suppressed buy the angling, and lack of original Magnus features.

I know it isn't actually fatter than before... but no matter how many times that fact is pointed out, it still looks that way because of how it's sitting.

No matter how much I try to convince myself that it's just the pose, it still looks thick to me... and that's probably why people keep arguing that it's chubby-looking even though others are saying it isn't. ^^; It's an optical illusion, and it's just very hard to get past. :/

I like the look and pose of the old magnus. I believe the older one show off more of the features that make the magnus unique. Such as the spines a log its back, the marking along the spine, arms, and ears. I must say, with the coloring on the new one itâ€™s hard to say no, but if the older pose was just colored in the same fashion it would be twice as good as this version we have here. All in all the magnus is supposed to be gargoyle like. The old pose captures that and it is lost in the new one

oooh! :000 i just ADORE this change!! i've NEVER liked magnuses.. but if this revamp goes through, i will DEFINETELY get one. n_n seriously.

i love the bulkiness of it. it's not clumbsy at all. but stronger, less.. wimpy looking. XD; The expression is much much stronger. The texture is wonderful and the fangs and much nicer than the whiskers. X3 i also think the feet and hands are fine. no beefs with me. :0 can't WAIT to see what the reborn and spectrum versions may come to be..!

I can't remember the last time I saw a slender gargoyle. The whole point of this Magnus is to look like it's made of stone, so yes, the arms are bigger. It's making it look like it's got some weight to it, yet the belly ISN'T fat.

Well, it is different, I have to say. And yet much the same as the old, just a different pose. I voted for the old one only because I am used to it, but this one has it's own fine qualities.

Hmmm....looks a bit like the chibi version too for some reason, I don't know why. Must just be my old eyes. grin

Definitely better than I could do! ^^ I've tried drawing Chibisuke (before the zapper changed him) and I embarrassed myself.
