Wardrobe Skins!

We've introduced a new feature into the beta wardrobe called skins today! Basically, if you have a zombie or morostide zapper base, you can claim them in the beta wardrobe and use them any time!

That means you can have a human avatar, and switch back to being a zombie to pop into the zombie den, you can absolutely do that.

We will be able to add skins as prizes to achievements and events in the future, so keep a look out for fun new ways to change your avatar!

As you've seen in this thread (and lots of others I'm sure), I can't say never anymore. There is a possibility at some point in the future we will decide to give the zombie strains out again, but at the moment we have no plans / it's very unlikely.

After this year I guess the only people who kept their zombie bases are the ones who did it because they liked how it looked, not because of the zombie perks, because like I said, those perks aren't exclusive anymore because of the temporary infections which anyone can take as many times as they want

I kind of wish there was some way for some of the older ones to be retroactive, but I'm happy for this! ...even though I spent a shitload on cover-ups over the years. lmfao.

Just wanted to point out, the link to the Zombie Den in the news post doesn't lead to the Zombie Den. It leads to a 404 page.

For some reason between subeta.net and ss.php there's the word news instead of the link being like this: http://subeta.net/ss.php/skitters it's like this: http://subeta.net/news/ss.php/skitters

I'm trying to understand why this is such a bad change to some people. The genetech is still a good base feature that people can still use and it's still limited to those people who got it (and/or bought it). It's not like it lost value just because you can change your skin around. Cover-up items can STILL be used - it all depends on what you like to look like.

This just gives people an easier way to use their wardrobe, which is a large feature of this site & one of which I find the most enjoyable. I chose to have the Nebula skin but I'm ecstatic I'm not STUCK with it anymore.

Rock, I have the genetech secondskin. This doesn't bother me as long as the zombie skins aren't awarded to people who cured.

Because we don't have the information available to make it retroactive. We don't have any records of who had what zombie skin :)

And, yes, this wasn't possible a month ago, or even a week ago. I did a lot of work on the base layer (to make it moveable) and this became possible. Also: Yes, we said we'd never do this. That was a dumb choice that doesn't make sense anymore, made it hard for a lot of users. I'm not going to justify things that we've said before that just doesn't make sense anymore, or are just stupid decisions made with technology or abilities that we had four+ years ago.

Could this at least be retroactive? Some of those skins aren't even available anymore(zombie strains) and some of us were zombies for quite awhile before we finally changed back to be able to participate in other site happenings.

Also, I think that a lot of the comments here spell out exactly why we made this change.

No one should have to "suffer" for something that they earned / achieved during an event. People felt like they had to keep their zombie base because it was cool (or because maybe an achievement would be added one day?) and got them into the zombie den, but then didn't get to use half of their wardrobe because they spent half their layers covering up. It was just silly.

I know it sucks for people who HAVE cured, and like I said, we have a lot of exciting ideas for new skins to add to the wardrobe ;)!

Huh. Well I am not surprised that something that would "never" happen is now happening. But yeah, if it is going to be like this now, why NOT just make it retroactive (for things that give perks like the zombie skins).

Man, I wonder how all those genetech skin people feel, lol.

Accio - I think you misread. There are going to be achievements that give out skins as a prize in the future, the same as they can give out items, or titles, or layouts, or hair styles. We aren't adding achievements for having these skins.

Will there be a chance to win/claim older zombie skins? I really regret having gotten rid of the one I had that very first year and would love a chance to have that one again and some of the others I've had through the years. SOme amazing artwork went into them all. :D

Really wish this was around from the beginning of zombies in 2009. I kept my love bug for three years? at least two, maybe three, before I got tired of trying to cover up. I struggled with the decision to cure, I didn't want to, but I also wanted to be human and take advantage of my wardrobe. Also, didn't Keith say there will not be new zombies anymore? There were none this year. This really would have been a great feature to have when zombies were introduced!!

Zombie/zapper skins are just digital art that subeta artists designed and made usable for us. Yeah some of us have made "sacrifices" over the years to keep them but all in all they aren't our property to hoard and deny the rest of the community. And those sacrifices only involve choices in changing your avatar on a digital petsite.

I really just feel sorry for those who have made a "look" from layering zombie skins under zapper skins that can't be used anymore.

Sounds sweet. Speaking of old skins, if they do become available they should be priced appropriately. Unlike the pseudo-zombie wearables released a couple years ago, the skins would keep their value because they can't be sold or traded. It would keep things fair, I think.

Aren't the years you already spent doing this enough? There's this weird zombie martyrdom thing going on.

Having zombie benefits costed not being able to properly enjoy something that was a HUGE part of the site, which was something that made using the wadrobe less fun for some users, and the site didn't want that anymore

And with the temporary infections they released recently that let people get those zombie benefits anytime for a few days they want then go back to being normal again, this seems ok to me

Then consider that now they have paid the penalty for keeping their zombie skins and benefits, after 5 years I definitely feel like I have- especially since I very rarely take advantage of said benefits.

As an ancient boobitis (2009) zombie... I don't really get why anyone is upset over this? I've been a zombie and have had to work around it for years. Now I don't have to if I don't want to. That's it. That is the only way this affects me. What sort of skins you have, or that guy or that gal has, does not affect me in any way, has no impact on anything I do on this site. All it means, at all, is that people who had non-base skins can now choose to use a base instead. I just don't get any upset, honestly, unless it's that if people had known that someday in the future we could use bases and still keep special skins optional they wouldn't have reverted back... "Back in 2009 if I had known that in 2014 I could look normal but still have foot rash, I never would have cured!" - someone out there XD

I don't think they'll give old zombie skins because it wouldn't make sense to Zombie skins are a plot thing With the old strains people either cured and are now immune or they got a vaccine and are now immune And currently said plot made it so that zombie new infections aren't even a thing anymore either, I guess the virus is not mutating anymore.

I keep my zapper skin to wear. Normally I've got the experiment skin but I wanted to try for the wildcat skin and failed ;3; But I'm keeping this skin because it's unique and very few people wear it c: I like being different. If I didn't, I would just cure myself.

That being said, switching between zapper skins would be fantastic for me since all I really wear are zapper skins. It'll keep me from getting bored :P

And just to add some insight... I've been a Zombie since year one, I've debated for years and years over curing and have never been able to. I love that now my vast, vast wardrobe collection can actually be used. I am also VERY glad that past skins earned were not given! I have spent year after year holding out with my boobitis going noseless and working around coverup, to me, my skin became something special and uncommon. I would loathe for everyone that had boobitis back in 09 to again be able to use my highly cherished and sacrificed for skin.

Im with muerte, itd be easier to just have it layerable.

And the thing is, how do we know they wont just allow anyone to get the old zombie? Idc with the zap stuff, anyone can get those even just weeks ago. In the past staff had said one thing, then let something else happen. So if there is no promise I feel like us zombies have a right to be a bit worries about this.

Also I was told that if I move to this system I can no longer wear both skins at once. And even if I dont move to it, in the future they might force me to change to it. That is my big problem. Because I love the dolly bits that stick out behind my zap skin. Its the reason I kept the dolly. I rarely use bgs for that reason so I can see the wires and stuffing. So now others getting the zombie is the least of my worries D:

I think this is a great feature! Although I am a bit disappointed that I went through all those zapper skins last month but only have one available. Oh well, guess more zapping is in order!

I do believe that the old zombie skins should NOT be brought back because this still makes it special for those people who have had it for that long. I don't see a real reason to why this would be a bad thing to those who have been zombies long time. You still have the old skin, but now are able to deal with it more easily. Honestly I found it a pain to always have to cover up so I would cure within 3-5 months. Plus if you want to, you can still make the challenge for yourself by covering up your zombie skin like before. /shrug

I think I will enjoy this feature & it makes me want to collect them all - well the ones that I can anyways!

Awesome. I just kinda wanted to be able to go back and forth between my zombie and zapper. But to be human again?? That may be freaky. Maybe with this feature, you will allow zombies to happen again more permanent then last Pandemic was...

Well, I agree this sucks for old time players who had to put up with either covering up or cure if they wanted to look "normal", and feel like maybe this should have been done earlier... though I'm assuming that old zombie skins are not going to be rereleased, so people who kept theirs is still rewarded in a way. (Maybe they will, though. Lol I might be a little annoyed if that happens.)

I don't mind this, although I would have been happy enough simply being able to move the skin around, so backgrounds would stop cutting them off. Like the adorable frosting skin.
