I have exact same problem with my early Tier 10. I tried to use Item Hunter whip that have a chance to turn enemy's weapon in to sand, Recycle Blaster, Deluxe Death Shard, etc. I even set up Cobalt Eternal Scroll to try to survive the first turn.

But the thing is, Hydra can deal up to 5600+ damage and even with blocking, it is unreliable that I can survive the first turn. After a while, I gave up and just go DPS on first turn. I may or may not activate Freeze crystal on my weapon, but I survive turn 1 less than 50% of times.

I also didn't invest much in Hydra raiding. So, no pylonic and only occasional Dark Potions and Throwing Vial. I just aim for 350,000 dmg.

I have the time and Elysium was kind enough to loan me some weapons and scrolls. My wrist hates me but I'm going to make it, lol. Underestimating damage @ 5,000 per battle means 200 battles per million in damage. Going over means I gain an extra "battle" every second or third actual fight.

I'm overthinking this haha

I've actually moved the battling to my tablet as it's more efficient that way. Got 500k damage done in an hour that way.

I modded all my weapons with different elemental marquis crystals, had quite a few rounds where 3-4+ curses were active for 36-60+ icons of unblockable damage

I broke 1.1 million earlier today and intend to keep poking away at him as long as I can. I'm super thrilled at myself even as I watch others hit the full 10 mil. I'm super happy for everyone who is learning so much from this experience.

There is definitely a huge effectiveness jump between tiers as you get further along. I can't even fathom the posts where people are posting that they are hitting him for thousands of damage or only needing 200 losses to hit that 10 mil goal. I'm sitting here at nearly 600 losses just to get in a million damage. That said, I put in a lot of work on my battle pet over the last two years, and to get to this point is a huge difference. I remember struggling against Gliders and couldn't beat a Gelashell last time we had a war. Slow and steady.. maybe by the next time there's a war, I'll be able to lay waste to the Wizard & Stompers.

Sun just passed 1mil, so I'm content to stop there. Averaging about 16k, when he isn't hit through the Void at start for a one-turn-kill lol or on turn 2. Critical strike crystals not as effective as I'd hoped.

Bravo ! That is a wonderfully positive point of view. You will definitely be in another league come the next war. Just keep going a little at a time.
