I don't try unusual foods very often (I tend to find something I like and never venture far from it lol). The last thing I ate that was "unusual" was Takoyaki that my friends made. I'm not big on octopus, but it was okay lol.

Minty It's important to me and I'm happy that it's important to you! If someone told me a story like that and didn't specify I'd be worried about that scorpion too!

I love scary stuff. I'm always trying to creep myself out. I firmly believe there's a rational, non-supernatural explanation for everything but I've seen a couple things that I just haven't been able to explain adequately. I might be a little superstitious about my house...not really...but I want to believe...just for fun :P

Dude you can have all my sugar. You want a controversial oatmeal opinion? Forget fork vs spoon. I put garlic salt and pepper in my oatmeal. I've put spinach in my oatmeal. I've put hot sauce in my oatmeal. It's just a grain; it goes as well with savory seasonings as rice or quinoa or any other grain. I don't know why we have this rule that says oatmeal should be sweet. I reject all sugary things for breakfast. My favorite breakfast is one I was introduced to in Russia: buckwheat groats with meatballs (of course I use veggie meatballs now) and butter. Sometimes I put mushrooms, onions, garlic or dill in there too. It's a bit of a challenge to even find buckwheat in America and I really don't understand why it's not popular here. Aaaand I guess I just answered today's question before it was even posted (I was already writing this reply to you). So I guess my answer is savory oatmeal/cereals. Weird, sure, but I don't think it qualifies as "disgusting". Or I could reignite the pizza wars in here and remind you that pineapple-and-onion pizza is my favorite lol. (How can I like pineapple when I don't tend to like sweet stuff? I don't know, it's just an exception.) I can't believe you like durian though. We tried one once; we had to evacuate the house, bury it in the backyard like the corpse it smelled like, and remain outdoors for hours while the place aired out. Those things should be illegal. I've never seen curry ketchup but I would absolutely give pickles dipped in it a try.

No, there isn't any news on that Vitaliy guy and there isn't ever going to be. X'D I see him around occasionally but rarely interact with him or any of the other guys at work. I'm glad I know his name now though. Or maybe I'm not, it just makes me even more...never mind. That's always been one of my favorite names and he's cute af with the most perfect accent and nerdy glasses, send help lol

That show sounds adorable but they got it backwards...we need to protect the ice caps and glaciers from the fire-breathing dragon of climate change. D:

Btw I admit to spying (sorry) and Eisbrecher is one of my favorite bands too (second only to Rammstein) as already knows since we've discussed it before. :D

There was your daily dose of atomic ramblings; I hope you enjoyed it. I'm really not convinced everyone does love them but I'm happy that you do. XD

thinks really hard Uncommon food, hm... well, I like broccoli on my pizza, and I think that's pretty uncommon. The only thing I can think of right now as far as preferences is I eat peanut butter and sugar on toasted bread. I don't know why, it's just something I've eaten since I was a kid, my mom used to make it for me... I love peanut butter, I love sweet things, and I like the crunch of granulated sugar. I used to eat this sandwich that was applesauce, cucumbers and American cheese on white bread, but I haven't had it since I was in elementary school. I got it out of this book that was like, activities and stuff for kids put out by the magazine Dynamite back in the 80s because I am old. :D

Minty It's nothing special. Austria is just my favorite character from the anime/manga Hetalia. My name was originally something else (the name I've used online since the early 2000s) but for some reason I felt uncomfortable using it here? so I changed my name to Austria at the height of my Hetalia fandom.

PS - I forgot to mention, I like soggy cereal too. My favorite is Frosted Mini Wheats, when it absorbs all the milk and the wheat part gets mushy but the frosting is still a little crunchy? MMmmm!

What is the most uncommon food you've had and do you have uncommon food-related preferences? Well, I don't know if you guys will find this weird, but when I make instant noodles I like to crack an egg inside and mix it while it's cooking. It adds a creamy texture and some proteins, it's good for days when you are hungry and in a hurry.

Now, speaking of uncommon cuisine, there is something I like and I bet you don't know: Here in Brazil there's this thing called coxinha (maybe you heard about it?). Originally it's simply dough filled with chicken meat and deep fried. This is very very very common here, it's a delicious street food that everyone loves. But...!!!!! As vegetarians didn't want to miss out on their precious coxinha, they invented their own amazing version: coxinha de jaca (jackfruit, very similar to Durian). Shredded jackfruit replaces the chicken, it has the same meaty texture and the flavour is so subtle it ends up reflecting the spices you choose, but with a citric touch.

Minty Sure!! I'll remember to share any news from the garden here! I didn't know how to care for plants before too, I kept forgeting to water some, my cats had fun destroying others ( they still do sometimes haha). But it's about trial and error, you'll do better with the next cacti!

Oh and thank you, I felt very welcome here on subeta and that made me want to really participate and get to know a little about all these nice people ^^

Thanks! :)

I've never heard of pea milk! I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere, even in specialty vegan shops. I'll have to try it if I can find it somewhere. I don't really drink any milk (real or fake) by itself because I've never liked doing that but I LOVE using this almond creamer in my coffee. It's the Silk almond milk that's hazelnut flavoured. ❤

For today's question... hm. Well, I like ketchup on scrambled eggs which many people have told me is gross but I don't think it's that uncommon lol I also love a lot of "weird" (for my part of the world) foods that are from Japan or South Korea. They're normal there, but I live in a very white part of Ontario where people aren't terribly adventurous when it comes to food.

Like, one of my favourite snacks is these dried anchovies that have a sweet, salty and spicy glaze on them. They're soy, sesame and chili flavoured and they're sooooo good! Nobody I know even wants to try them but I swear they're delicious and they combine sweet, salty, savoury and spicy in such a good way.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

Since I'm from Egypt we have a lot of food that will sound uncommon. I have nothing on mind at the moment though so if I remember something I will edit this :O

Minty Of course I will! :)

I know what you talking about with the anchovy snack. It is absolutely the best! I usually go for the non spicy version because I don't like chilli that much. Thanks for reminding me, I haven't had that in ages because there isn't an Asian grocery in my area :(

Tuna with corn chips, charred steak only, everything but ketchup on fries, chilled fruit, avocado sliced never as guacamole, salt instead of sugar in my lemonade, frozen chocolate, I don't chew M&Ms, drinking ice water even in cold weather, coffee as dark as my cold dead heart, I spell it "czeese", and the only pancakes I eat are my own.

What is the most uncommon food you've had and do you have uncommon food-related preferences?

Most uncommon food I've eaten, hmm, for where I live especially that would have to be Skembe - it's a soup made with tripe (stomach), onions, garlic, tomato sauce, and seasonings like red pepper, black pepper, parsley, and bay leaves. It can take a really long time to make and it's so good! I haven't had it in forever though.

Uncommon Food-related preferences - I am a spicy fend - whether it's a hot sauce that has so much heat you feel like your eyes will bleed or a spice blend that has your nose wanting to dissolve - I LOVE IT! And it goes with EVERYTHING!

Chili Peper Hot Cholate? Yum! ice cream topping - Hot Sauce. Do I make Habenero Cupcakes with Habenero Frosting, yes, yes I do! Ghost Peper Chocolate Cheesecake? I devoured it! My favorite coffee shop even as a Spicy Curry Mocha that I'm obsessed with!

You name it, I have or will turn into a spicy explosion for my tastebuds.

Uhh... possibly pork blood? It's a little funny because little kids are told it's chocolate bc they look similar lmao. But yeah it's like tofu texture and shape wise, used in bun bo hue etcetera. Think Vietnamese pho but with beef instead :)

Which fictional place would you like to visit?

The child in me wants to say Hogwarts because I used to read the books before sleeping and dream that I was one of the wizards. But sorry little me, that's not my answer now.

I would visit Avalon, the misterious and mystic island from the tales of king Arthur, in wich my precious Morgan le Fay lived and practiced her sacred pagan magic. I bet if I could visit, I would never leave.

Though Wonderland is definitely a place I would enjoy, I'm going to have to go with my current obsession and say Cloud Recesses.

Right now it's so hot in here I'm like LET'S GO TO HOTH But the real answer is probably Valdemar, from the Mercedes Lackey books... mostly just because it's so important to my young adulthood and inspired me so thoroughly. (I started this yesterday, but was drawing a big fat blank and forgot to finish it haha)

Today's question:

Do you do DIY projects?

If anyone has more random question ideas, please feel free to share them with me <3 Don't forget to join the official ping group below. :)

My personal answer: I always make birthday cards for others. Other than that I make the occasional Christmas present but I am not really skilled in the most common DIY areas like carpentry or tailoring, hacks or metalwork. Tomorrow I'll participate in a knitting tutorial which I am super excited about but I am a bit scared that I won't understand o:
