I wouldn&;t remove any items from anyone tbh.</p>
<p>It is entirely likely that someone who owns one or two private CWs that were not sold to them personally did come by them honestly in a usershop, donation centre, pawnshop, etc. If someone turns up with 50 of these items then there&;s cause for concern.
I agree tbh. Unless the user who received the item(s) reports them as items they shouldn't own, or an item had literally one copy onsite previously and is therefore something the creator can guarantee the other person shouldn't own, then there are too many variables that could cause someone who "shouldn't" own a private CW to own one, even before this glitch happened.

There's a window for that kind of thing to be taken advantage of, but I personally feel it's worth that risk as long as people who actually lost valuable items are able to get ethem returned

Gonna have to agree as well. Because staff would have to rely on user reports in order to identify falsely restored items, I think it would cause more trouble than anything else. As far as I’m aware, none of my CWs were lost because of this glitch, but I do have several that I acquired from the pawnshop that ended up being “private” releases. In a scenario where maybe I had lost some of them, what would happen if the releaser was unaware that someone they sold/gave a private CW to had gotten rid of it? They could possibly see me wearing it, think I had been falsely given the item bc of this glitch, and then make a report about it. They could have no ill intention and have every right to belief that they were correct, even though (in this example) they wouldn’t be. Again, too many variables.

I'm pretty sure they're only planning to remove things when it's clear the person never owned it to begin with. While most people aren't going to try to take advantage of this error, there are definitely some who will. I've already amended my post to note that 4 of the cws I thought I was missing are most likely my mistake since it's clear that I'm the only one missing them. There's also evidence from further than 4 months back that I did own the CW that I have had restored that quite a lot of folks were missing. I'd wager they're looking at the backup and also at the number of reports of something missing vs something that's clearly still in user's wardrobes before restoration to determine whether or not they end up needing to remove something they've restored in error.

Imo the only items that shouldn't be restored are those who have checks and balances confirmed. Ie: CW that has 30 item hard limit and all 30 are accounted for.

Otherwise the idea of returning an item then later taking it back is uhh. Interesting.

Thank you for updating us. I just want to highlight a few bits for fast finding in case folks land on a new page and don't want to go back to look for updates.

You can check this page to see if anything has been re-added to your account so far.</p>
<p>This restoration process has only just begun, so you may see more items show up over time. Please don&;t be alarmed if there aren&;t many items on that page for you yet.</p>
<p>We are basing this on cross-referencing several sets of data: our November backup, various logs, and user-volunteered information. That said, for some items we aren&;t able to verify with 100% certainty if it was lost. In these cases, we chose to err on the side of getting you your items back; that is, we are choosing to re-add the item into your wardrobe even if we were only 70% or 80% certain about if you had it.</p>
<p>You will NOT be punished for any false positives.</p>
<p>We understand there are certain items where a false positive could cause issues: for example, custom clothing items intentionally limited by the releaser. If we become aware of these cases, we may &quot;undo&quot; it by removing the erroneously restored item, but again no one will be punished for what they do with a false positive.</p>
<p>Since Subeta does not officially track CW &quot;status&quot; (private, public, etc), we unfortunately must rely on users to tell us if these false positives occur. Again, we understand you shouldn&;t have to deal with this because of OUR mistake. We really messed up here, and the onus shouldn&;t be on you to fix it, in any way. We&;re currently discussing how we&;d best take these kinds of reports should it come up, and are open to hearing what the community would want us to do as well.
And that bit..shoooo..I don't envy you at all. That could be a ton of work that takes some time to finish. The side of me that looks at CW and thinks "Ohhh, I'd like that, but it's retired/private so it's not available anywhere or it's a bajillion CSC" is almost jittery at the idea. CW and "status" creates exclusivity and since that was the intention behind both the creation and the purchase of private or limited time/qty CW it's right that it remain so. There are some brilliant CW pieces here, and I'm always a little bit heavy sigh at not having something so cool, but it has to be fair.

Edit: Got spooked by some wording in previous posts. I am really hoping I don't actually have to say this but please DO NOT allow users to report other users as wearing CW they're not supposed to own. That is a surefire way to bring on the witch hunts.

Aside from the obvious issues pertaining to this, I was wondering in the past with the main root cause of issues previously years ago of initiating daily server backlogs. I do remember in the past the user base had the option to download a complete backlog of their account information in a file. For an issue like this moment in time.

I don't know if this is still put in place, but I think if it is no longer viable for users to do at this moment in time, maybe brining this option back. Would save staff a lot of guess work on what someone had at a particular moment in time.

Sure wish site still had the option where we could download our acct info and save it to HD. If they still had it, all this turmoil, could possibly not be happening. :s Of course, they had to remove that option, cause if I remember correctly... something about being too taxing on the servers. -_-

Yeah, I wasn't here for that as I only recently came back about a little over a year ago or so, but I do know people could download the log endlessly at points. Possibly starting again with an 24 hour to at least a week's time per log request wouldn't be too taxing on the server and still have buffer room for situations like this in the future. Ones that could result from a myriad of issues that are out of staff's control.

Re: The issue of removing private/limited Custom Wearables. Thank you for your feedback. You've brought up some very valid points and concerns. Right now, we are also leaning towards not deleting false positives, even if we have clear evidence that it was a false positive. We are definitely not going to delete based on a CW's "private" status alone.

Our main concern is with certain personal or extremely sentimental CWs. We don't know of any of these that have been affected, but reports are still coming in, so we want to be prepared if this happens.

We do typically stay out of CW "status", but in this case we are open to hearing from the community what you'd like our involvement to look like, since this particular issue is a direct result of our error.

You should give users back the option to download backups of our own account data. That would've helped at a moment like this. We appreciate your suggestion, but the solution is not to make users responsible for their own backups. This is not the users' burden to bear; this is our responsibility and we were the ones who messed up.

We aren't excusing what happened, because, again: there was no excuse for being unaware that our backups had stopped working. This was unacceptable, and we are doing everything we can to fix the damage and make sure users don't have to pay the price for our mistake.

We have now made sure our backup service is working as intended AND being regularly monitored, and make sure staff get an immediate notification if it stops working. We put this into action on the 26th. So right now, our backups are back up and being monitored round the clock so we will know immediately if they fail again.

While I appreciate the intent of your response, tbh, I do not lack any perspective as to why anyone (yourself included) is or has been upset. I made zero note of needing that clarification in my previous posts. You did, however, presume otherwise, and I think therein is at least half my point. What I do lack, unfortunately, is moreso the appreciation for the projectile emotions of anger and upset directed negatively toward staff ( in particular) in ways that have been extremely disgusting and downright nasty. I'm also disgusted by the constant cycle of shaming that exists within this topic. And I'm kindly drawing your attention to the differences between these two as that was the intent AND extent of all of my commentary herein.

Quote by Idiot
&quot;I don&;t think it&;s quite fair to presume anything of us who are feeling more upset&quot;

Please note that many users have and did presume a lot of things about 's ongoing work and the outcome of this situation that had yet to be resolved. That many users have been discourteous and threatening over the last few days because they are legitimately upset and worried about things that were not the case and/or that had not yet come to pass is >precisely< to what I've been referring. And that they're fueled by incidents outside of this situation, using that as justification not to be upset, but justification to be rude, is and was my issue and point. That's not a presumption. That was a fact revealed within this topic.

Quoting my PREVIOUS post within this topic for further clarification, as I hope it clarifies I'm not exactly NOT upset and that I recognize years of issues:

Quote by Korin
I have been following the topic from before and this topic now all day without a word, but some of you are being incredibly rude and damaging. And that&;s even less surprising than the issue/situation that has occurred, which is beyond sad: it&;s sad that it is honestly more upsetting and unacceptable to me than literally || a n y t h i n g || staff has or has not done regarding this situation so far, as well as every other situation being cited as justification for such emotional tantrums. I&;m ashamed to be a Subeta user, not because of a site fuck-up, but because of the reactions of a small sampling of the userbase, as per usual. The toxicity of some users is honestly getting more tiresome to me these days than the 15+ years of poor communication and general mismanagement. Yikes.

You can be upset, and as you've kinda demonstrated, you can still be sorta nice and constructive about voicing that upset. Meanwhile, others have not been kind, and that's the issue I take now as always. I can also apologize on behalf of those other users who have been incredibly, personally nasty without apology as that is indeed my place if I so choose. If you weren't one of them, and this doesn't apply to you, then there is no need for you to explain yourself neither to me nor anyone else. Now that I've clarified a bit, I'd like to hope you wouldn't defend such actions, but I don't like to presume.

You could keep lending me your perspectives but I'm full of my own right now; as for the appreciation for the actions of those people, I'm afraid you cannot lend that to me. Thank you for the compliment on my HA, and uh, for the record, I recognize you just fine.

As far as I know, none of my limited/private items went missing for anyone. I only speak for myself personally should this issue come up for my items. I am willing to provide whatever records I have of who has what if I am contacted by staff.

Thank you for your hard work in restoring items for us. I apologize for some of the harsher criticisms I have said earlier. I understand this is not easy for all of us. I am very glad to see a solution being worked on that will benefit all of us.

so just to be certain, I won't have had to submit any reports of missing items and I'll have everything restored directly to my wardrobe? I literally have no idea what I might have lost because my wardrobe is so large, and I added quite a lot of things to my wardrobe in the last couple of months. mostly pandemic shop items. but again, I didn't keep track of what I did and didn't add recently.

Even with Subeta making its own back-ups now, more reliably, I for one would have better peace of mind if we could download our account data like we did in the past. After this, I started a Subetalodge account to keep track of everything I can (collection, wardrobe, books pet has read etc). But it can't keep track of everything (vault, shop etc). Plus, it'll be a real bear to keep it up-to-date. I either have to manually add items on Subetalodge individually, like when I read a new book to a pet. Or I have to regularly use Subetalodge's mass add feature and enter source code and stuff, which is very time consuming. I would just have more peace of mind if I could download my account from Subeta itself like before.

Please, please don't ping me. Please.

Its not widely known but you can mass add pages like your shop and vault to a custom list on Subetalodge. I did this in the past, and can confirm this still works at the moment. You just need to past the source code of that particular page and it will log the data in for you.

In case the account personal data method doesn't come back, you can keep track of this item via this method.
