Lol, I only just got home after work + going away party for one of my friends. Only 1 hour left in today, rip writing goals for the first day. HAHA. Ohhhh well, 29 more to go! I'll see if I can manage a paragraph of something before midnight hits and then get up in the morning ready to go!
HECK YEAH! to all of you with word counts. You've officially started on your novels! :D
EDIT: Oh yeah, and for anyone that wants to friend me on nano, my username on there is northernheat ^-^
Surprise, surprise! My story decided to be something else the moment I sat down to write tonight. So much for prepping. At least I still know the characters. XD
: Good to see you Otter-Boy!! Good luck with your story! Who are your characters?
NaNos! One way to boost your word count if you're stuck is to do a character sketch or describe the setting. Remember, that the point of NaNoWriMo is to get you writing! All words count, even if they aren't technically part of the story or plot! It's not about writing a complete, finished, edited and finalized, marketable piece of fine literature. It's about getting the characters, setting and plot out of your head and into a file.
Go for it! Give us a full breakdown of one of your characters!
Personal crisis is kinda taken care of. I'm sitting quietly in the aftermath stage now. I've been writing though, and I am a little more than 300 words away from today's goal. The whole house is asleep so that is helping me with this concentration a lot.
I hope everyone is doing well and is getting that word count up! Even if you ended up a day behind, it's not too late to catch up!

-cheers Quill on- You've got this!
Anyone up for a in 7 min at 11:30am EST for 30min? :)
My brain is so keen to get this story out I was up at 5 am and am at 5k words already (it's not quite 9 am where I am). My perfectionistic inner editor hates what I'm writing but it helps to tell myself this is just a super rough first draft and I can go fix it later. ERASE NOTHIIIING.
Good luck! :D
Sorry, I missed it, was too busy writing instead of checking forums! Would it help to schedule them a bit more in advance, maybe?
Yes normally :) I tried to give a head's up yesterday but I'm going out for most of the day today, Feel free to host your own!
I already lost progress-ugh! Dropbox mysteriously said I deleted the file and then when I restored it, it was older than what I had written this morning.
I guess I'll try just working off my local hard drive instead of dropbox.
Oh no! That's a great reminder to back up everything in multiple places; that's really awful. How much did you lose?
Hahaha I'm terrible at word wars, but I'll think about it!
Hey
If anyone is interested in trying out a discord for sprints, please join! https://discord.gg/gCCGuFr
I've added the Writer bot so we can use commands to start sprints and get prompts; I'll have to build it out more if anyone is interested :)
You got this! Sometimes I find that writing helps me center myself during times of turmoil. Hopefully it can help you now.
Why hello, Miss ! It's wonderful to see you, too. Seeing as I'm unemployed this year, I'm hoping that I can actually write this November without getting overwhelmed.
Here's a quick run-down of the character who opens my story: Dustin is a little boy made of dust. He's only a little boy in appearance, really, and has been around for a very long time, though he can't remember exactly how long. He holds all of the memories of all of the dust that has ever cycled through his being, which results in him having a bit of trouble keeping track of time in the grand scheme of things. When asked why he appears as a little boy, he simply says that his first dust was boy dust and therefore he is boy-shaped. His personality can be a bit childish, too, sometimes. Being full of so many memories from so many different people and places and things makes it harder for him to form memories of his own. A fun little quirk is how he remembers names, which is by separating the syllables and finding words that sound similar so that he remembers most people by phrases rather than simply by names. As an example, he calls his new friend Eli "Eel Eye."
- I got about 200 words written yesterday? Great start right? But I'm a come-from-behinder anyway.
- Lol, sometimes it's great when that happens though!
: I love that character! What an exciting idea. I wish you all the good luck in reaching your goal this year. You can always bug me if you need encouragement or help.
I am bummed that the Word Count Widgets are not working "yet" this year. I got another 1900 words done today, so I'm on track.
My main character this year is Sabine Redfern, a black-footed ferret. She was born mute but developed her own silent language. She is exceptionally smart, and as a very young child, she apprenticed in her father's craft as a wainwright. She earned extra silver on the side, casting bells in the wainwright's foundry to sell to the villagers. With her earnings' she took an unprecedented second foundry apprenticeship and progressed rapidly through the ranks to become the Bell Master. She married Astro, a young engineer and together they created a carillon of bells that finally gave Sabine a voice to sing the songs that had been locked inside her body and mind.
That character sounds awesome. Very original. :o
I haven't written anything since this morning. Going to try now. |D Today's word count is good so I won't lose out on anything if I can't manage tonight. Wooo

Yea I know non-fiction tends to be the harder of the two, what I did in 2018 was worked on my first book as Informational Autobiogprahic so that was a lot easier of the non-fiction genre as it was geared towards my own life so that was a lot easier to right. While I did some research it wasn't as indepth as this undertaking.
I am just into the subject of good and evil, and I barely scratched th surface of research into the topic, I am just now apporaching various philosophical theories, like meta-ethics, normative ethics and applied ethics. I guess I should have paid more attention in my philosophy class. xD

- Big mood! lol.
I did it. Last night, I stayed up, put on some mood music, and banged out 2,500 words. It's too early to say for sure, but maybe I have a chance this year!
I cannot recommend mood music enough; I write a lot of high fantasy stories, you know, swords, dragons, magic. I also have the entirety of the Skyrim Soundtrack, and nothing helps me paint the picture in my head quite like the ambient music of the wild, or the gentle songs of cities.
Find thematic music, DJ your own story. It's a blast.
If you haven't tried it yet, I suggest Blind Guardian's album Nightfall in Middle Earth. It's all about the Silmarillion and it is soooo gooooood.
So far so good. I just got my word count done for today, and I am going to get cracking on tomorrows so I can have a head start. (You never know what life will throw at you with a 14-month little monster running around!)
I am really enjoying this story, it is coming smoothly to me and I am easily able to meet and exceed my daily count. I know it isn't going to last for the whole month, I know. But I am trying to take advantage of it while my muse is still in overdrive
How's everyone else doing??
[sup]Quill.[/sup]
I made it to 10k words (it's not that exciting, it's four scenes and the fifth rewritten three times because I Was Not Satisfied) but while I have more to write I'm staring at my computer. Maybe I should take a walk or a cleaning break or something.
I love it when the story wants to write itself, this is like...the best year I've had in a while.
Like you, trying to take advantage of the current brain enthusiasm, because I know it won't last. LOL Good luck on yours!
