TRUUUUE THAT XD
Wow such a great list of authors in your post!!! The authors you mention that I know I've read are James Clavell, Colleen McCullough, Stephen King, Pearl S. Buck, Robert Ludlum, John Updike and possibly others but don't remember. You didn't mention Leo Tolstoy and I really enjoyed his Anna Karenina and War and Peace.
I would say some of my all-time favorite contemporary authors are LeCarre, Follet, Scott Turow, Khaled Hosseini and I feel like I'm missing a few. I really liked Robert B Parker's westerns but haven't read any of his Spenser novels. (I thought the writing itself was kind of amateurish, but they were fun)
So about the Pulitzer Prize winners - back in my 20's I just decided I would start at the beginning of the list. Some of the books were not findable way back then but I read as many as I could find. I don't remember reading the very first winner from 1918. "His Family" by Ernest Poole I do remember reading several from Booth Tarkington, the winner in 1919 and 1922. Then I read Edith Wharton and was smitten and at that time I read everything I could find by her. (her books remind me of Jane Austen's) At some point I must have forgotten my mission because those are the only ones I really recognize other than the classics we've all heard of. I think we've discussed before that good writing is sometimes more important than the actual story. :-D
It still baffles me that none of Michener's book titles ring a bell; when I feel like he's one of my old reliable authors. Anyway, I can't wait for Caravans to be available from my library system. I should just go ahead and buy it as I feel certain I'll like it.
That's funny about your parents encouraging you to read best sellers and I'm sure you're right about their motives.
How's Wuf doing?? :-D
Well yours is. My brother married a strange lady. I actually like her fine but she doesn't like me, I guess. My brother might not like me either and only calls me once a year on my birthday. I do admit to saying some things in the past but when they were always so unreliable or late or no-shows and then I would say something, suddenly I was the bad guy. My nephew is pretty cool though and I try to make an effort to keep him in our lives as much as possible.
My daughter loved Frankie's season and I barely remember it. :-P Big Brother and Survivor have gotten too predictable and not as fun as they were in the beginning.
Us too and I dread it as our house gets so hot. Ugh! At least my bones don't hurt so much when it's warm! :-P
Fine probably, haven’t paid him much attention tbh
Oh! I read some Tolstoy in school but I didn't know he counted as a bestseller :) I figured since it was originally Russian it wouldn't have sold this well in the USA...
I definitely read and liked Edith Wharton. I can't remember everything I read by her, but I know I read The House of Mirth and Old New York.
From Michener, I think my favorite book I read by him was Hawaii. I also read Centennial around that time.
Poor Wuf!!
Tolstoy probably considered more of a classic than a best seller. Ever in search of good books I tend to lump all of those categories, plus PP winners, together. :-P I truly feel like I've read Hawaii but if all goes well with Caravans I may revisit it.
I have some plots, plus some stories, and would love to write a book but am always overwhelmed before I even start. I've probably written 50 first paragraphs in my life. lol Have you ever attempted to write a book?
Taking my friend out to dinner, picking her up now (: My gf went out with her friends and her husband I guess didn’t eant to do anything
Edit: home now. Interesting night...
Have I tried to write a book? Not seriously but I've written some stories, and some of them seemed like maybe they wanted to turn into novels because they weren't ending but kind of branching out instead... but I never finished any of those.
Yeah feeling better, how are you?
Hey how are you?
Ah no, I would be a couch potato lol I love tv. But it's nice not always having to be connected to tv. Although I watch netflix and youtube a lot so...
I was supposed to go to the east coast :/
Family will always stay together in one way or another even with difficulties
Oh bummer you didn't get to go D:
frankie was just to nasty but then I did try to watch BBAD so that probably didn't help.
