Ah, I was scrolling through, and saw your purple and orange HA! It's awesome & really caught my eye. The moon background really works well for it.

I was good until I started Subeta. The lag, 502s, random inability to load, getting very frustrating. Can't open the ping post. Wardrobe is being really sucky. I'm hoping I'll manage to get the stuff done for posting frenzy, but it will be tough.

LOL I guess you weren't expecting a minor rant with your innocuous question!

Sorry I've taken forever to get back to the two of you. D: Been dealing with colds, college, and kids.

I'll have to keep a look out for it. Do you know if it requires certain lenghts, topics...etc?

Is is an intriguing sideline, a big jump forward (where we&;ve skipped the intervening steps and so we&;re missing things), or total fantasy?
That's really the big question to me. There's been plenty of other theories in the past that were thought highly improbable but are now more likely than ever, so who knows?

I've always tried to get into reading fiction. The idea of it sounds fun, but for some reason, I've never been able to. I do enjoy nonfiction for the most part though.

Yeah, the whole "jack of all trades and a master of none" really fits me well, especially in science. I read bits and pieces of everything (of some more than others), but I'm definitely no expert on any of it. I've found researching to be more interesting that way anyways particularly sense everything in the subject is interconnected in some way.

Nope! It's pretty much a free-for-all, haha. You set your own goal (I think it can be anything, even like 500 words) & it's used by a lot of people to do short stories, screenplays, editing projects, etc. I think the only thing is there's a certain date you can change your goal until and after that, it's not changeable. There's fun little 'cabins' that are like chat/message board areas for the group.

no problem with not responding instantly! Hope the various colds are all better.

While its true that the improbable has become accepted truth, it also can't be denied that science has accepted some pretty vapid stuff as true as well. That's why testability and repeatability are so vital.

I read very little non-fiction :). Most of my learning comes from fiction - I read a story and it takes my imagination and I get to wondering how much of the story is fiction and how much is science. So I go research the science behind the fiction.

Its sad that "jack of all trades" isn't a real job. I'm interested in a lot of stuff, but nothing grabs my attention for very long. At university I dabbled in almost all the sciences to see what would fit me best, what I could make a career out of, but while I enjoyed it all, I couldn't imagine any one field that I could stick with and remain passionate about.

Statistics came closest, but it was filled with lies. Learning how to make good research models also teaches you how to make models that give you the answers you want instead of the truth. I could see myself working for clients who wanted certain results and either end up fired for not agreeing to give them what they wanted, or losing my "soul" (for want of a better word) to the industry.

Other than chronic sinusitis and pink eye, I'm good. LOL and Thank you!

True true. I don't think anyone can deny that. The evolution of science has had some major break through and some...not so great moments. Haha!

Got any recommendations? (that sort of reasoning is actually why I've recently started watching Star Trek.)

YES! YES! SOMEONE ELSE!! Oh my gosh, you don't even know. Everyone around me seems to have some hobby or interest that they strictly participate in and are following as their career. Then there's me off to the side looking at all the cool fields. Problem is, the more I look into them individually, the less I like the idea of committing my time, money, and effort to any of 'em for the rest of my life. And I know people say "You don't have to stick with your chosen career forever", but with all those years and debt it's costed you, it feels like a waste to do otherwise. At least that's my fear currently in college.

Oh yeah, like all the different forms of averages: mean, median, mode. I remember learning about that in my critical thinking course. Even in math classes, I never really considered that you can force a desired answer out of an equation. Ever since then, I've been weary of statistics unless they have a proper and available step by step of the experiment that produced the data.

For fiction I strongly recommend Isaac Asimov. Its old stuff, he died in 1992! But in addition to his science fiction he wrote a lot of science fact. He was also a Jack of all trades! Other than that, I recommend you look into hard science fiction - authors who tend to start with science fact and work hard to make their fiction true to possible scientific advancement. My favourite in that genre is James P. Hogan.

Yes, it was always the idea "could I stand to do this for the rest of my life" and the answer was always, no. And the things that were "yes" were not stuff I could turn into a proper career.

I'm reminded of the quote "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." So many things to consider when looking at research data. Sample size is a big one - but, even more important, I feel, is selection bias. You pick the "right" sample and even a large one won't protect against faulty results. Then there's the research questions - in surveys in particular you can sway the results simply by which specific words you choose. Or make the question confusing - I've seen this done in politics a lot - like ask a question that is so convoluted, people don't know if saying yes supports or opposes the proposition.

How is everyone doing this weekend? What's the weather like where you are?

We're supposed to get some really cold weather down here in south Florida (well, cold for us). Not cold enough for snow, but definitely cold enough for continuous coffee. It's making my arthritis act up a bit too.

Just got a shipment of new makeup this afternoon! I can't wait to play with it.... it's so sparkly! My eyes are going to be a glitter fest! ✨

I've been spending way too much time with my Xbox and have been neglecting Subeta except for two things every day (Melody and Bathhouse) so I just wanted to quickly say:

Thanks ! Most of my posts are from claim-the-user-above threads which is kind of cheating but it still took forever lol

Thank you for thinking of mentioning me on that gift thread! I'm not present enough (no pun intended) to participate in giveaway threads right now but I appreciate it! It has been great getting to know you and everyone else here too. :D I'm sure I'll be more active again soon.

and Thanks for the compliments! :D

Now I'm going to go try to stuff some things under trees while I'm here. This month is flying by way too fast!

That makeup sounds fun! Our weather has been just a touch above average, so pretty nice. I hear some places in Florida actually got snow.

Subeta was slow and laggy all weekend, but its gotten better. Still getting the occasional 504 though.

I couldn't agree more! I was so proud of stuffing gifts under my first tree last week, but I haven't done anymore yet and time is flying!

- I agree with you about this month flying! I have to get all my RL Christmas shopping done and in the mail this weekend! I want it to all get to where it needs to go before snow can delay anything! :o How are you enjoying the Xbox?

- It's been cold here for the past several days... Though, cold for us means that it's in the 40's when we wake up and then in the 60's during the day. Not cold compared to when I lived in NY, but still cold, especially when that wind is from the north. And it did snow somewhere in the northern part of the state. I believe that we were the final state needed to say that all 50 states have had snow this year. :o

Yes indeed, climate change sure is "fake news."

- I can imagine! I bet your winters are similar to mine when I was a kid in upstate NY. You're almost at the same latitude as where I grew up.... So cold and sooo much snow. There was one winter in the next closest city that kids were sledding out of the second-story windows of their houses. Crazy!
