Same. I was in grad school getting my masters, and I stayed up all night anyway to grab all the stuff staff was putting in the Free Shop (or Donation Center, can't remember which it was way back then). Ugh I wish I had kept that account active. It would be SO OLD. When I decided to come back three years ago, my old account and old pets had all disappeared, I guess because they were back from when they deleted stuff after a certain time.
Ooh, who can forget the days when we could get a daily allowance (% of your sP in-bank) just for visiting the bank! I also appreciate all of our currencies being in one spot at the bank!
I vaguely remember stocks because I never really played D: I hate putting money into gambles like stocks, haha!
and It was too much of a headache to forget! It definitely was an eye opener on internet culture proper etiquette, and I'd forgotten about the free shop being open for so long as reparations for the DDOS attack!
❤ Happy Lumi ❤
i remember the daily interest!! and how upset people were when it was removed e w e
understandable haha i remember one time i bought some stocks before going to bed and had lost a lotttt the next morning ; ___ ;
I remembered my most expensive buy was a reborn potion for 6 mil and that was the most I could afford. And this was before weekend quests which made it easier to get sP. When I had more money from weekend quests, I was able to afford an Angelic potion for 32 mil which are now 80 mil!
I also remembered at some point in 2007 or 2008 that subeta had changed from an org to a net and I thought it was gone forever, until it took me 4-8 months to realise it migrated to a net and missed the release of 2 new pets (the manchu and archan) and probably the only long period of time I've been away from subeta! xD
Staff used to be able to have pictures as their backgrounds in the Shoutbox. I had a picture one of the other staffers drew of my pet, who at the time was based on my 8th grade crush... eek, cringe! There also used to be a page that listed all the staff members. I can see why it was removed, but it was also nice knowing who the people were behind the art and such.
I never changed my password after the 4chan incident, and of course they got into my account and the photobucket that was used to host my forum-text images and changed them to some really gorey stuff. Naturally, I was frozen. Luckily my account was brought back, but I feel a little bad still - I hope nobody was traumatized. :x
5 pets for a basic account, and 10 pets for a gold account. That was it! You could keep them after your GA expired, but you couldn't adopt anymore if you abandoned them. Then they introduced the Mystical Montre and Donadak plushies, which gave you more pet slots - but were stupid expensive!! (I looked it up because I forgot - $40 and $80!!!!) And yet there were people with like 10+ extra slots almost right away lol...
I remember a lot of the old staff people I used to work with - I think the only artist I worked with who's still here is Rah. I wonder what happened to some of them (I spent a lot of time inactive so I missed any username changes or whatnot).... I really liked the art of InvaderZim and Mythica... I wonder what their art looks like now. Any "Where are they now?" posts about former staff? :P Staff positions also used to be volunteer-based, too - you posted in the Hiring forum and if they liked you, you were hired. I think the process is probably more rigorous now haha.
Oooh I really miss not having to train my pets because you could just give them really high tier weapons and they could easily beat strong opponents. I was never a big fan of training so now I cannot really fight anymore.
and I remember there being way too many daily quests, you could never do them all in one day and you got nearly no reward back from some.
I remember my darling Saggitarius back when he used to be really handsome. And when he used to ask for 4 items and giving back 200 - 400k per quest.
I also remember the wizard giving back items, including SBQ items sometimes. And I remember there being an achievement for doing a wizard quest in under 30 seconds, while we still had to copy and paste item names. I had that achievement.
Also, I remember that there used to be no limit for your wishlists, so I had a really long wishlist that never loaded and basically always killed my computer whenever I wanted to look at it. I think I had 5000+ items on it.
I also remember restock wars. Those were fun!
Oh and it is not that long ago, but I remember the festival and the band contest, and I really hoped we would repeat that one.
It's kind of weird, I have been here for more than 10 years now, but I don't feel like I remember a lot of specific things.
❤️
I'm not a super old user but I still remember the days of having to c/p each item name to search during quests, and having to "haggle" and put in a captcha when buying from npc shops. and when Saggi's rewards were way higher.
I remember the daily interest too... how the percentage was randomly generated when you made your account (mine was 3%) and then they busted everyone down to 1% and then took it away altogether, and how mad everyone was.
When I first joined journals were still a thing and I never used them, never saw the point. Now that they're gone I can't even count the times I've had a random stray thought and then lamented that I wish I had a subeta journal to put my shitposting in. XD
Oh man, I remember Subeta's own oekaki board, that was initially the place that got me started on drawing digitally, I still remember my very first piece I did, although sadly I don't have it saved anywhere... Looking back, I've come a long way since :')
I remember the old restocking system where you actually had to haggle, it always stressed me out so much, I'm so much happier with the new one.
The bloodred pets used to have the weird duo-tone effect of red and black.
Oh, I recall the journals too, I think i actually might have used those! Although I'm p sure mine were just copypasted from my deviantart journal entries because I'm lazy.
i've been here for years, and i still remember the graveyard shop, staff custom items and the fight over pymajacs longcat that got us hacked by 4chan users and they changed it to draconis
you've got to go green...baby.
Didn't the Rreign used to just be called Dragon way back when too?
oh wow I could be here forever reading everyones memories and reminiscing.
Biggest then but not now things for me are avatars and then custom avatars, I was so resistant to the human avatars. I hated them when they arrived.
Potions and csc being so much cheaper than now.
Journals and cults! G.A.P.F. how I miss you even if we did annoy people by filling the trade centre with pillows ^_^; Good times.
Most recent thing I miss is looking at peoples wls and being able to see what you own, that was awesome.
High points were being able to say we survived longcat. And working for the elusive 2k users online achievement. More good times ^_^
I only joined in 2008 and after a short while I wasn't active for years (so I missed a lot of really big things!) but oh man, I remember when creating a pet there were some you couldn't make? There were more limited pets then than there are now, basically. I came back to the site after years of being away and I saw the Antelphore, and I really wanted one! There were a couple other pets that were limited but showed up on the pet creation page, with a little "0" below them, like they were of limited quantity I guess. I'm sure someone else knows what that was about, but I was very glad they removed that restriction and kept limited pets as ones you had to make a special way. (The only way I could think to circumvent it at the time was to buy an elixir and change my pets into the limited edition species)
And cults! I think I may have joined one or made one, but nothing ever came of it :( The account worth page was so great, mostly for the reasons that said -- sometimes after being gone for a while it was wild to know that something I owned was suddenly a very valuable item! Everything was less expensive back then, but then people didn't have as much money either. Only a couple years ago I was the 159th richest user but now I'm only at 410th with roughly the same amount of money, so clearly things change :D
I do not miss how much of a hassle it was to have to open shops in other tabs to buy items for quests and type in the captchas though, ugh.
I remember auctions and how most people didn't use them so I"d just go hang out on the page and look at what was happening lol
I've been here so long i remember when you had to send Keith money in the mail to get a ga LOL
Bathory is hungry for MORE MORE I SAY. - If you think you are unattractive just remember you look like your ancestors, and hey all of them got laid-
Ah as nostalgia hits... I was thinking back to when 500csc cards used to be between 4-6mil at any given time.
I remember the oekaki
That was what got me to join at first, tbh
I also remember when it didn't take a week or more for an advertising thread to reach the third page

I had an older account way back when (that for the life of me I couldn't remember when I came back) that I remember the auctions from. An for some strange reason I've had it in my head that the number of times you could quest was much higher (30 times keeps coming into my head?), along with the little page who told you who restocked what from main shops, oh and the little account worth thing too.

I seriously miss the stocks! I loved doing that!
I stumbled across this thread after browsing through my wardrobe. I haven't been on in about a year, and I could not remember what all I had in there. Some of the stuff I have in there has been retired for a while now. Just curious...what in your wardrobe is worth the most?
funny that you all mentioned the oekaki because i was just reminiscing about these online art forums and wondering wth happened to them. totally forgot subeta had one too i wonder why they went out of fashion as well. i'm surprised they did as the community aspect part of it was really wonderful... i'm not quite sure if its the release of advanced drawing programs or if simply younger generations of artists never quite caught on or discovered these oekakis? i feel like many of the artists, at least on the oekaki art forums i was members of, were roughly around the same age/generation. then again, everyone was quite anonymous.. i feel like neopets definitely played a role in fostering the development of the oekaki communities. bc i don't really remember how i even stumbled upon these art forums in the first place

at least for me, what eventually drew me away from these boards (I used to be such an active member on SSR/SRON and Subeta along with like four other smaller ones ) was the fact that Shipainter/Pro and ... whatever the other, newer one was called were such unreliable programs that would crash instantly if you used any longer time periods on a picture / had multiple layers in use. I'm guessing this was something that drew lots of artists away from the boards, when they got access to more reliable programs like SAI and Photoshop. I still miss the community, they were always so supportive and active and fun ;__; It doesn't quite feel the same when you upload art on dA / tumblr / other such sites, because on oeboards the art and feedback were always so... immediate?
