((ooc okay I love the way you brought in LOTR!!!))
Drew had to smile at the mention of Gandalf. "No, it's not easy. It wasn't easy for Frodo and Sam...or any of the nine walkers or their friends really. I mean think about what they gave up. But then look at what they got...evil destroyed and the return of the king. It's whether or not you decide to give up, give in, or keep going," he said.
(hehe I love lotr lol ^.^ ) The boy sighed. He'd heard much the same before. Magnus couldn't think of anything to say. His hand slipped into his pockets as he looked highly uncomfortable.
(me too!! I was on an rp group for years where I was Legolas...hence my user name. He's my baby...though I have a soft spot for Aragorn too 😄)
Drew tried to think of something to say and then decided to go with a subject he enjoyed, since Magnus had brought it up. "So...since you're quoting Gandalf did you read all the books or just watch the movies?" he asked.
( Legolas --- pardon me whilst I drool xD lol. hmmmm.... Awesome on the rp and name ^.^)
"Read the book, 'aven't seen a movie since I was 8, and that was our battered vhs copy o' Princess Bride. I really struggled not to call a capyabara a ROUS," he grinned shyly.
( YES!! Sooo drool worthy!)
Grinning, Drew nodded. "They do look a lot alike," he said. "And if they are supposed to be crazed...plus they live in a hot, tropical climate kinda like the fire swamp...it fits. My family used to watch the movie so often I pretty much memorized it when I was younger. Of course my little sister thought she was Buttercup." Drew rolled his eyes.
Magnus laughed. "I've often got to play Westly with all the little girls at once. It was kinda fun. We'd use a teddy bear as the rous, and my sword would be one o' me paintbrushes. Twas lot of fun."
Drew laughed and said, "It sounds like fun. Poor teddy bear though. Did you have the mask and everything? they're quite comfortable you know," he winked.
"O' course, must were the mask. Though I think it's inconceivable 'ow boring the book was compared to the movie."
Nodding, Drew said, "I know! I was going insane...without having to climb the cliffs...by the time I was halfway done. It's one of the rare times that a movie is better than a book to me."
"The revised version took a lot of the waffle out, but yeah, the movie was brilliant. So do you 'ave muggle stuff now?"
"Not as much as we used to, but we do still have some things that we brought with us and other stuff that we bought once we got here," Drew said. "We're a mixed up family," he shrugged with a grin. "I don't think we'll every do away with muggle things entirely...I mean Dad would be pretty much lost if Mum wasn't around to do magic in order for him to use some things. But I've noticed Mum using more and more of her magic in the last two years. My uncle says it's about time she remembered who and what she is."
"THat's kinda sweet," Magnus said regarding how lost the boy's dad would be. "Both my parents were never exposed to muggle things. So they are kinda clueless."
"It works for them. Mum never really tried to hide the fact that she was a witch from Dad and he was good with that," Drew told his friend. "Out of respect for Dad and the wizarding laws and such, Mum didn't run around town telling everyone or waving a wand, but she did magic at home. And she found a few other witches and wizards, especially once she had me and Bridget. We joined a small homeschool group and found out that all but two families were magical, so I grew up kinda in both worlds. Most people think it had to have been Dad who was such a Muggle that he didn't allow me to go to Hogwarts, but that's not true. It was actually more Mum. She got a bit overprotective when we moved and after Grandpa died. She said she wasn't ready for me to be off on my own for months yet, so it took me almost two years to convince her that Hogwarts really was the right place for me."
"I don't really blame 'em honestly," Magnus said, "I mean it was 'ard for me parents to send me cos they just kinda got me. I think the only reason they allow me to go back is that they getta see me three times a month--or rather dad does... mum can't 'andle watching me shift. But sometimes dad 'as me pop me 'ead in the fireplace and say ello to 'er."
"I'll bet it was hard on them. You were still young and they knew what you'd have to go through every month. That's cool that you get to do that though," Drew said. "I remember the first time I saw Mum do that. Seriously freaked me out. But It's kinda fun to be able to talk to my uncle and cousin through the fire. Dad says the letters by owl are fancy enough for him," Drew laughed.
"Yeah they'll've 'ad me for three years coming June. They're new parents so its odd for 'em, you know? Oh talking through the fire is weird ain't it? But owl post freaked me out a bit at first too. I kinda gave me owl to mum now though. She's got a huge order of Quidditch supplies so left Vega with 'er. She needn't worry about tryin' to find another owl when she's already stressed."
"That's sweet of you," Drew smiled at Magnus. "I'm sure your Mum appreciates how much you care about her. I ended up with two owls by accident. I picked out Cosmo, but then like a week later I found this little owl in our woods. Something, I don't know what, had attacked it and its wing was missing some feathers and there was dried blood on it. I took it home and kept it in my room. Then it wouldn't leave. That's how I wound up with Pip. He doesn't deliver letters...at least not yet. I've tried training him to take them, but he's spoiled and just wants to ride on my shoulder or stay in my room without doing any work."
"Well, I still kinda get 'er since they send me letters and Mum really needed the 'elp. So really it worked out. She seemed to be grateful. And cos I gave 'er Vega, I let Dad 'ave the snake I were given for my last birthday. She's so much 'appier in the greenhouses keeping critters away from dad's plants. Aww that's awesome. I bet little Pip loves ya. Glad you were able to rescue it."
"That's awesome that you have a snake too!" Drew said. "Back in Virginia I played with a green snake that was on our yard fence for a couple of days but then he moved on. It wasn't like it was a pet or anything." He smiled and said, "yeah, I'm glad I found Pip. He can be a pest at times, but I really like him. He will fluff himself up and snuggle against my neck. You'll have to meet him sometime along with Dodger. But I'll have to get you to come home with me before you can meet Fleet."
((ooc heading off for the night. Have a good night!))
