omg thanks :') I was hoping maybe the spoiler would work but nope, once my post is longer than a couple of sentences it doesn't show up :c (that one did too before I added everything under the spoiler OTL )
but if someone is gone for 3-4 years do you really see them suddenly deciding oh lemme get on subeta?
I came back after EIGHT years. Unfortunately, my old account and pets got deleted because it was from back when they did that for inactives, but people do come back!
I will say, I think this is a terrible idea. I get the written reason for doing it, saving data and while that is nice, it's been changed to this method and isn't really an issue anymore. I also get your real reason for wanting this, specific birthdays, but I don't think this is the right way of going about that. I would, however, greatly support a suggestion to make purchased birth dates a thing. It would be amazing to be able to purchase dates that make sense to the overall profile since people work so hard on them. (Like characters that would have been born before Subeta existed).
I will list some things though, for thought. People DO come back after long periods. Not only those who just got bored with the site and the sudden urge strikes them again, but do to illnesses. There are LONG TERM illnesses and believe it or not if you're battling say, cancer, even taking 30 seconds to sign onto a pet site isn't going to be in your view of important things to ponder in that moment. Courses sometimes get difficult or periods of training. I know my internships ate every moment I had in life while I went through them. If I had been a part of Subeta then, I would have been gone over a year easy because no, my future (and unbelievable amounts of stress) was on my mind, not a pet site even for 30 seconds. Also, rare things happen, like my agoraphobic friend whose computer died and disappeared for 4 years until he finally had enough money saved & mental effort on a day to purchase a new one.
I will say, as an active user to this and another pet site, sometimes the memories aren't just for the user who owned the pet. People die. People fall out of friendship or one friend moves on when another doesn't and sometimes those pets left behind are memories for those users still here. My ex fiance died and on this other pet site, he still exists there, as do his pets that all have stories, that I myself, know. I have a best friend who joined this site with me and although it got very complicated and he no longer exists here, it brings me great joy to be able to look up his pets and see them. To know those stories and who they are. If you're going to think of them as something more "real" and to be cared for, rather than just data that someone obtained, then you also have to realize that even in their current state, they might not be as abandoned as you think they are.
I wasn't saying it was impossible, I just feel personally that a year is a fair time to log in once, and it's up to you to take responsibility for your account. Obviously it would be a sad instance to have cancer and not be able to log in, but it's how the site works, regardless.
Definitely not feeling this suggestion. I take time off from the site frequently and I want all of my pets to still be here when I come back.
no it does luckily not work like this. I only loose names - and if I am lucky not even those. But loosing a pet I have put work in - would make sure I'd quit altogether.
I don't mind loosing names (even though it's unlikely, since I use foreigne RWs and those seem not to be so desirable) - but I am sure some of my pets would be taken for stats TC and color. And that is something I would not want.
RL is more important - at least for me. but that does not mean someone can come along and take advabtage of my work on here. EVEN if I stay away for years.

Not sure why people keep thinking I'm siding with the original post lmao i agree with you, taking the pet for all it is would be a bad idea.
as for myself I sometimes do not get undertones since english is not my native language. As said - I have no problem with the name taking thing.
I also understand that certain dates can mean something. I would sometimes also love to change the borthdate of a certain pet - but it's not possible. So it stays the way it is.
Sorry if I misunderstood you
