- true, high end battling really requires two libraries - one for books and one for scrolls. Wishing you much success reading to Hanson. Lower end book prices have been down recently (things like stockable super rares) but I'm guessing you've already read all that. Not sure how pricing is for the higher end/harder to find books. I'm thinking I need to work on reading more to Tos, as well.

- good to know, thank you. Definitely something to think about as Tos progresses from T9. And I certainly am still getting plenty of use out of my Phoenix Quill for now - not to mention my other two pets that are still using it Just might need to do what you suggest and think more defensively when Tos uses it against some of the tougher challengers, maybe more shield/healer plus quill rather than attack weapon plus quill would give better results. (Fortunately, I also have one Cobalt Eternal Scroll in her scroll library - I will have to try using it with the quill and see how that works out.) Happy to learn something new about how to battle. Every little bit helps me to improve and also to get farther using what I already have. Much appreciated.

Hmmm, thinking about using Phoenix Quill being related to critical hits makes me realize I have another question. Is it possible that your challenger somehow affects the rate of activation of blessings/curses (not talking about challengers for whom they are disabled)? I seem to have a lot of trouble activating the Parched Blessing against The Gate Keeper (where I really need it) as compared to how often I seem to see it when fighting other challengers. Just curious.

Should be an easy theory to test:

150 Rounds vs very heavy hitting challenger probably with a tier 11 with less than 2.5K speed (not the most important factor, but I think it would be best to do with a very high difference in speed to eliminate the fact that we don't know if the rate changes based on abs difference or % difference.) 50 rounds 2 100 icon defenders 50 rounds 1 100 icon defender + weapon with no defense 50 rounds no defensive icons.

Only record number of crit hits in each scenario. Should give a good initial data set

It coudl still be done with something like Mirroring shield of brilliance and a lower tier pet.

I don't think figuring out the exact rate is as important as figuring out - does forgoing defense one a weapon for a turn increase the odds that you get crit hit.

Yeah, the problem is that the price of intel boosters have increased considerably. I don't usually read books twice (or multiple times) the price of an intel booster to Hanson; I'd rather sell it and buy 2 or more intel boosters XD

- that makes sense. Being a huge book lover one of my long ago goals for Tos (essentially impossible, but hey - it can still be a goal) is to read every book on site. In terms of resources, however, selling expensive items to buy boosters is a much better strategy - and one I may well use myself at some point. I assume that unlike reading a book, using an intel booster for a pet is not limited.

For me right now, it would have to go something like - 50 rounds 2 75 icon defenders (I think I only have two weapons with 75 icon defense - the Hydragellos Maniacal Core and Shinwas Short Sword - both of which are conveniently part of my default set). 50 rounds 1 of those plus weapon without defense 50 rounds no defense Against any hard hitting opponent - those might all be single round battles, but I assume that would not too adversely affect the data collection If I get a little extra free time I might just give that a go in the Battle Coliseum. If so, I'll let you know the results. Any particular suggestion of opponent (it would have to be one of the regular ones - I don't have Cash Shop opponents and my secret ones stop at Nightshade who is too easy for this) that would be a good choice given an early T9 tester?

Eh, there is always satisfaction in collecting and reading all the books to your pet, especially if you're a book lover and either aim for the book read high score table or just for the sake of reading all the books itself. I'm not going for the high score table so I guess I'm content with fewer books if it means Hanson can get more intel points.

Are you looking for opponents to test the theory? If you don't mind a bunch of losses, I think battling the Gate Keeper, WyrmGear and The Raging Storm Sylph might be good for testing.Their health is not too low and the battle can last a few turns, and I think they all have higher speed than an evenly trained T9.

The formulas for strength and defense are posted all over the place but very little is mentioned about speed. The battle coliseum guide about speed is very vague.

Activation of a blessing or curse has to do with % chance based on your mods. Say you have two weapons with 4 mod slots and want to protect from freezing. Each parched baguette has an individual 10% chance to activate. If you mod with two parched baguettes, then the chance to activate a blessing is 1 -(0.9 x 0.9) = 19% 19% chance per turn is still very low so say you mod with 4 parched, then it becomes 1- (0.9 x 0.9 x 0.9 x 0.9) = 34% That's a little better but still less than half the chance. You can also test this out by using scrolls like shriek of despair or psycho smasher on the gatekeeper. You will see it's a lot easier to freeze him since the chance on those scrolls for a freeze is 84% and 75%, respectively. Even then there is still a small chance you will not freeze but if you have a large enough sample size (either A LOT of shriek scrolls or keep track of how many times your shriek scroll freezes in 50+ battles) you'll see the activation rate is high.

oooh really? I probably should've kept my battle longer, but I ran out of defensive things to not damage the Ventri, so yeah :P

I used the volatile mecha during my 11th battle and when it got me down to half health. Basically I just sat there spamming the submit turn button. The mecha's blessing kept healing my pet up while its curse damaged the ventri for 100 HP each turn. It's kind of fun lol because it kept chain-freezing me but still ended up dead XD

Yeah but it's rather dangerous if you happen to form a muscle reflex. I hit the submit button out of that bad habit today in BQ and got knocked out in one hit by Crawbeast XD

ouch. Guess it's not such a good idea.... haha especially since I do have a nasty muscle reflex. When I started battling and doing BQ, I used to hit 'use default set' instead of 'choose weapons'.... I still do sometimes this very mistake because I am scrolling through in auto mode :P

Btw, does anyone know if the following challengers are seasonal or just stopped by during an event?

Devora, the bandit and the dentist all came around during the holidays. The other three (unless by spider you mean nightlady) did not return but could be TBT challengers.

Those challengers are all event ones. I'm not familiar with Spider or Scary Chairy, but I'm pretty sure Scary Chairy, Devora and Mirror Ghoul didn't come back last year. I think they're part of the 2014 Morostide plot? If that's the case then they might be under the Throwback tab if they will ever come back at all.

Last year and the one before we had Cursed Effigy (without being Tormented, thank goodness). I think we've got the Cranky Carrot too, as a RE challenger like Ice King. The Cranky Carrot first made its appearance during Vesnali last year (I think? I was semi-active then and missed it, so I might remember it wrong), and was an Easy challenger, before they made it to Very Hard during Fireside.
