Oh yay thank you xD
It really came out of the idea that I love those monthly crates and I wished there was a Subeta version of it xD
sort of like a loyalty perk? Sign in for x consecutive days? I know some sites that do that. That would be cool too, AND would do a bit to combat the inflation AND bring people to make sure to sign on every day. Most (not all) will do more than just sign on while they are here. I think the biggest thing is to combat the inflation of CSC. If it were more available to those who do not buy it with cash (I budget monthly, this would be my entertainment budget. I don't get out much ^.^) then maybe those same would be less likely to pawn on a spur of the moment, as well. AND they'd be more willing to get more things maybe. Someone also mentioned earlier about things expiring in the pawn shop. I liked that one, and the option to direct sell back to the site, and the item goes poofies. More options is always a better plan in general. People like options.
Re: shorter batches. I had an idea about this. IF we could get a shorter batch thing to make it so people just did not take the cheaper option and run, it could be restricted. Like it HAS to go direct to shop afterward, and only for the remainder of that batch. That was subby can still get its money, hopefully, and people won't just take the cheaper route when they can actually fill a 10 batch. Sort of like, if you are short batching it is because you could not fill a batch of 10, so you would not need to have it in there for more than the original ten anyway. Kinda keep people from taking advantage of any such offer.
I feel like there'd need to be a quest to earn csc - if it's just signing in daily, it should be a low amount (such as 1csc per day = 365csc per year) just because you don't actually do anything, yknow?
CSC inflation is probably one of the core issues but Im not sure staff really wants to intervene in this, if maybe to stimulate the economy without having to adjust rates/payout.
I was thinking about the 'sell back to the site' option and one thing I was concerned of, is how much you get back. Say for example a user decides to make an item completely private in which they would own the only copy. It would cost them 1.6k to submit direct-to-shop and thus get a single copy out. If they have an option to sell back copies, what prevents them from submitting at 5,000csc and then reselling 9 copies? They could make a significant amount back and this would highly increase exclusivity/rarity of certain items. At the end of the day, they'd have spent close to their copy's worth only. (Im just thinking out loud here!)
Re shorter batches: im not sure I understand your idea, sorry! At the moment, you can submit a 2-batch item regulardly and then move it to the cash shop - it would then be locked at the amount of copies left to buy (ie not unlimited). It can then sit there for as long as it takes to sell the remaining copies.
Shorter batches means more exclusivity - again, there has to be a deterrent to do so otherwise I can smell the wave of private 1-2 copies coming along our way very quickly. I have myself kept the amount of private items low because of sheer submission cost. If I could make private items for what a slot is worth, I know I'd be submitting a few right away (as opposed to paying for the batch and wiping off the loss of keeping extra copies / direct-to-shop cost)
I mean like instead of ten copies per batch, an option to make a half batch, like say 5, for lesser cost (like instead of 10 copies =5000 csc for a background, 5 copies=2500 csc total) for those things that don't slot full batches. But if you take that option, you only get a max of 5 more you can sell, and they go direct to shop. That way folk can't take advantage of it, Or something, and ultimately Subby still gets the same money. As for exclusivity, I am thinking if it is something that can't fill a batch of ten, it won't matter that much, but it would give people an option to get things on site.
I agree, I think having to do...something...would be better. And more fun, too, though a loyalty perk of signing in for x consecutive days is not a bad idea either. I was just thinking if folk get like 100 csc picking a box or something, they may be more likely to buy more CSC with sp or usd to get the thing they really want, too. Some won't of course, some will just turn about and sell it or grab something for that amount, but some will.
re: sell back: I was thinking more like the pawn shop, what it offers. But instead of re-selling the item, which seems to block up the pawn shop, it gives you the option to delete it instead. sorta like that ^.^
I loooooooooooooove the idea of a monthly SubetaBox group! Subscription boxes are so trendy right now, and it'd be a really fun way to inject something new into the market. Users could subscribe to a ping group that could ping the next month's theme and participating artists (obviously, all of that would have to be worked out behind the scenes) and then choose to buy a box or perhaps could have a recurring "subscription." We could have "unboxing" contests where users could use one or more of their new CWs to make a HA, with the winner getting prizes or perhaps the ability to choose a future theme. I see a lot of potential here!
A loyalty program would be an AWESOME way for subeta to inject a little more CSC into the market, I love it! I love that sort of feature on pay-to-play apps that I use, it makes me feel loved and more likely to continue logging in every day knowing that the program is willing to give me a bone to make it easier to play without spending a ton, even if it's just a small gift. 1 or 2 CSC a day would add up for players that are loyal to the site! I agree, a small quest or something would be a good idea. Actually, one of my favorite games uses a "Daily Mission" system sort of like Major Drills quests...something easy to do once per day to get a small prize, with a variety of quests. (Ex. make a forum post, comment on 5 users' pages, feed your pet 5 times, do 10 Pete quests, etc). Every now and then, slightly more difficult quests give a slightly larger prize - maybe 10CSC or something).
You guys are coming up with such great ideas! ^__^
Oh god, unboxings are my favorite things. I would totally get behind some unboxing contests xD
Just some more pings to see if we can generate more ideas for the cw community! ;0 its a long thread but cathii did index some great ideas in the first post ^__^
and sorry if you were already pinged D; i am blind mostly.
artistss: submitters: (dont read until youre done with your travelling omg!)
Thank you as well for adding me to the event group! :)
If you were referring to CWCritique, I created that group shortly after the release of Custom Wearables, but ended up deleting it some time ago since it was becoming underused. When the forum groups were revamped, the group (and other groups I deleted before) was somehow remade (and I was still the admin, but the other members were purged.)
There are only 13 members in the new group but I don't think anyone is using it.
Yes, that's the one! If you'd like to revive it I would be happy to help. I don't think it would be as popular as it was when it first came to be, or the old set up would really work like it did. But figuring out something may help users out. Not even just new artists, sometimes customs can just be a pain and a bit of fresh eyes could help.
I'd appreciate any help I could get! If you'd like, I'll promote you to admin of the group. :) I just hope there will be someone who can manage the group outside of the summer and winter breaks, as I can't promise to be active outside of those times. :')
I won't pretend to have read most of this thread I read the first two pages and a few other posts scattered throughout so this may have already been mentioned I'm not sure. Just thought I'd toss in my two cents.
For me the biggest reason I've stopped buying most CWs is because of the state of the Wardrobe. We all know its been broken for years but I don't like messing around in the new one and the old old one is no longer functional. I was never one to change my HA all that often but I did it enough that if I saw a CW I might want to use, then I'd pick it up and stuff it in my wardrobe. I haven't changed my avatar in literally months other than to maybe switch it to something else I already have saved.
I have purchased the one of item here and there that I couldn't pass up but I don't see any reason to invest in the clothes if Subeta isn't going to give me a good functioning platform to use them on.
Another big turn off for me is all the privatess that get released. I don't know if there is more being released now than before but for me it just seems that all the really unique or interesting items are either private or already slotted and filled before I see them. Granted I don't stalk the boards as much as I used to so it's not likely as bad as I think but I don't see most items until after they've been released via the Newly Released thread, so by then it's usually too late to get in on the action anyway. It just puts me off trying for other items when the ones I really want I'll not have. Or have to pay an ungodly amount for for the only public copy.
And here comes my love/hate relationship with the pawn shop. I love finding CWs I may have missed for sale in there, but I hate that it makes them cheaper than slot prices. Even if I see something I may want for sale on the boards if it seems more "generic" to me I likely won't put in for a slot on there because I know it's just gonna show up before long in the pawn shop. I like the suggestion of deleting the items for some return on investment. It would help keep the CWs from losing their value I feel like and keep them flowing via trades. Plus that way, like mentioned earlier, it would help keep the csc flowing instead of disappearing when someone buys from pawn shop.
I do also really like the suggestion of being able to buy CWs from usershops/special shops with csc. That would help immensely with people who don't want or have the time to maintain a selling board. And it would also work nicely if the pawn shop was deleted at the same time.

Yep, just want to agree with the pawn shop hate going on above me. I hate how it devalues so many CWs I'd vote for the deletion of the pawn shop
Edit: just gonna add to this... I've been on subeta for a while, I was amongst the first to purchase CWs and I was so excited for them and tbh I still love them. I probably wouldn't still be here if I didn't. I've seen lots of artists stop making CWs and there has to be a reason.
My main problem with CWs is how cliquey it feels, and I suppose that has to do with the limited number of artists and commissioners. But I feel as though, especially with privates, most popular CWs are spread amongst a small group of users and it's definitely intimidating. If I see a new CW that looks amazing it's like 'oh it's private, i bet i can guess who released it' or 'oh it's a one batch public but it was released with about 8 preclaims' It doesn't really encourage new people to become involved in the market
So yeah just the two cents from someone who seems to have been on the outer edge of CWs for its entire life span so far
Hi, I just read the main ideas that were indexed :P
I joined about last June, so I haven't been around long, but even back then this site was fun.
I've slowly been turning off my pings since beginning of this year due to school and not being on subeta often (loss of interest), but mostly because of the same 20 people pinging the same things every 3 days for buysellcw and like 5 of them pinging every goddamn day.
I've also turned off customwear because releasers usually now only ping that when they couldn't fill a couple slots on a 1-2 batch item. Why look at something if I'm not even going to have the opportunity to slot? Other times, it's the same 5 people pinging the same exact item every other day.
So, lazy me, likes to mass delete pings without looking at any of them, because it's really just a clutter of overpinging. This means I don't go to forums anymore to buy/sell/slot on CWs. I venture onto forums for commissioner-specific public ping groups, but that's about it. And even then, their public group was pinged because they couldn't fill the 1-2 batches with their private group.
All this exclusivity is very off-putting when I'm trying to slot on new items. BUT...I also don't slot on many things, because, yes, $5-7 for an item I'm not even sure I'll like when actually trying it on is a bit of a gamble. And then I turn to pawn shop to sell if I'm in desperate need of csc, because I'm too lazy to consolidate a list for the forum and ping stuffs. So it's a loss of csc for me when I don't buy too much anymore either. (I like the csc shop idea thingy.)
Anyways, don't know if anyone else has posted things similar to me on why...well why for a lot of things lol: lack of interest, not posting on forums, pawn shop, etc., etc.
Just my 4 cents, because 2 cents is too little :3
Just wanted to say I really like the idea of the questing for csc! Perhaps 10 csc per quest? (or maybe 5 csc)? Though I hope they never do a csc just for signing in perk for 1 csc a day because my OCD would drive me up the wall.
Though giving a daily csc quest would accumulate very fast in a week. Maybe a weekly limit so that while users do earn csc they don't accumulate enough to actually hoard it?
Of course it could be a possibility to begin with a higher limit in the beginning to lower sp=csc conversion rates and then change to a more moderate arrangement as prices decrease!

hello! Im a bit late on the replying, apologies!
I don't think there are necessarily more private items than before, however there are less items submitted in general - which means the proportions of items that end up being private is probably a bit higher indeed. Thing is, that's how Keith envisioned cws to begin with so im not sure anything will really be done about it ;;
As for slotting, are you part of the customwear ping? The market has slowed down a lot, items tend to be 1-2 batches. Even so, a lot of things dont fill that quickly. If you join the major cw groups you'd likely catch a good chunk of the releases (:
Thanks for your opinion! I also greatly love the idea of a csc-priced regular shop. It'd save so much time and browsing if you could just search from your wishlist and find items directly in-shop. I don't know about deleting the pawn shop simply because as much as we all dislike it, it's still a very used function. I think it could only ever be deleted if subeta provided multiple alternatives :/
hi! To be honest, Keith's main idea for creating cws was exactly cliquey: people being able to submit their own private items. I know it kind of sucks (I myself make a little sigh when I see this gorgeous item that is impossible to find) but there are so many cws out there!
Regarding exclusivity - it's true that items tend to be commissioned by the same people but at the same time, if someone is willing to spend $40 and the other person wouldn't, I don't think it's fair to say that they are cliquey for making it exclusive/private. There are still a few artists who make commissions, there's definitely designs still being sold around!
They are indeed bought by the same pool of users (which may contribute to this cycle) but if other users decided to purchase designs/comms and released publicly, it would also alleviate this cliquey feeling. Sadly at this time, it feels like it is a risk for a buyer, hence only a handful of people willing to take that risk (which in turn makes items private because it is the smaller risk, you know?) (ps im not trying to be rude or anything, im sorry if im not explaining this well ;_________; )
group pinging is a bit of an issue nowadays but I think it's because people forget what is what D:
For example, customwear can be pinged once every 2 weeks if I remember correctly - which means that if an item doesnt fill by then, you can give it another shot. Except -usually- when someone doesn't want a slot the first time, they don't want it the second time either. I know cwfill is abused off, I get a lot of those for the same items too lol
I'm not too sure what can be done about the pinging though, if you have any ideas! I feel like new users would quickly be overwhelmed by the amount of groups there is (on top of the amount of pings there are) but I don't know what could help with that :/
it's indexed on the first page! I think 10csc per quest may be too much (especially if it is a daily quest - for many people csc = real money = subeta's income and I don't think they'd be willing to accept that loss just yet) but perhaps guaranteed a few csc + random factor (+5 to 10 csc once in a while) could be nice ;o
You don't sound rude at all! I totally get why things get cliquey, you have a special item so you want to share it with people who mean something to you, it makes sense. Also, with the market the way it is you kind of need to submit things 1 batch with preclaims just to ensure it fills slots at all. I'm just saying that this exclusivity is kinda perpetuating the CW markets own downfall, if that makes sense?
if we can make cws more appealing and attract new buyers/releasers/commissioners, we could make it back to 2-4 batches per public item like it used ot be (which would be great for everyone because it stimulates the economy and it would actually be profitable by then!)
I've been working on creating monthly cw items with other artists! I'm still working out how it is going to work so the new box is scheduled to be released on july 15th! I'm also preparing mini-events with/for other artists so there should be a new influx of publicly released items coming up (: (Hopefully this will help a bit n_n )
I remember when I released my first CW and it's subsequent recolours, I filled 2/3 batches so quickly and it was exciting and profitable, I really hope things can be like that again, but I think people are too afraid of the quick devaluation of CWs.
I will keep my eyes peeled for these boxes and events, they sound interesting.
Ah, if only I was somewhat artistic, I really would love to make CWs, but perhaps when I have some free time (and money!) I will come up with some ideas to commission
I think if there was a new topic with rules on the CW forum, rather than just on newcw, wherever that one is situated lol, then new people getting into CWs can see it right there. Or we can establish an overpinging police of some sort xD
I know some users step up and tell the overpingers that they aren't pinging according to rules, and link them to rules. And then I see that person acknowledge whoever called them out and then go right back to overpinging. So consequences for abusing the ping groups? idk.
Regarding the plethora of groups...yes, it is overwhelming, and simply looking at my own list of groups, there's a LOT. So I tend not to join a lot of groups simply because I'm a weirdo and don't like looking at a clutter of stuff when I don't even know the group I'm in lol.
But side note, there just needs to be a better way of circulating csc, and more opportunities to earn csc rather than just buying, since that opens up another way for the non-spenders on here to get into the CW market, hitting two birds with one stone kind of a thing.
ohhhh I remember this wig that styx drew years ago n_n
I understand why people are scared of the quick devaluation of cws. It's just that we're stagnating and no one's really initiating changes. We just need to create new appealing features (cws, contests, events etc.) that will get people to take this risk - once it starts running again, it should be easier!
(mini-events are done by artists either alone or as collabs and will be publicly released items! Id like to see one up every month if possible, im working hard on coordinating everything rn!)
