Is anyone else slightly concerned that this is going to be detrimental to the site? I worry about the massive amount of items that are being vended from machines that have special items (Graveyard, Hoard and Blue Moon). The vending limit was imposed because there were too many items being added into circulation and it was destroying item worth - promoting massive amounts of vending seems like it would do the same damage over time.
I wish these items were being added into user shops instead since they drastically need more items/retirements of older stuff. Then they would be vendable anyway but not encouraging everyone to do it religiously.
raises hand
It definitely makes me glad that vending's capped. I personally don't think we need to be encouraging MORE vending at this point.
I too thought that staff wanted less items to enter economy from vending - see the vending limit per day - but since the latest goal seems to be getting rid of restockable items it matches the pattern at least. :x
i just loved how the first comment in the news was "no thanks." i lol'd
Although I like the idea of vending exclusive items, I do see why it can become a problem. More vending lowers the value of whatever is vended from that machine. Also, they already made changes to restocking, and that's lowering the values of a ton of items as well.
I just don't see why they would want to potentially change the economy that dramatically in such little time.
Vending is the cancer plaguing the economy, because it removes zero sp from it. Why are staff not encouraging actual SP sinks instead?
Do you even economy, staff?
Almost every item from vending is already worthless, so maybe staff's goal may have been hoping that people would just frag the said useless items, so people would get more crystals and then the crystal shop would get more attention? Unfortunately not everyone frags like that (or even understands fragging, almost 4 years later and I'm just getting the hang of it) so there's still a huge influx of worthless items pumped into the system.
Or maybe there's a ton of wizard tokens on site...and to that I just look at the token shop then throw my hands up because they want us to vend instead. why. just why.
And this is all followed by like a month+ of vending at grave digger for old retired items? Jeeze.
I just don't know why they would want us to vend more. If they just want us to vend like crazy and don't care anymore, just remove the vending cap again :P
I'm also a little concerned about this trend... I would love an explanation why so many vending-exclusive items are being released when staff has tried to limit vending in the past. So many items are already dirt cheap in user shops because of vending, which makes restocking -a decent sP sink- even less profitable. Is staff is still confused as to why fewer people are restocking in main shops? Because I think we've figured it out...
If this is an effort to get people to use less popular machines, it's even worse. The reason machines are unpopular is because they don't vend items that are useful or profitable. I wouldn't mind if there was a purpose for the useless items, but even fragging is sort of pointless because the Crystal shop doesn't get enough attention for me to keep fragging when I already have 1500+ crystals just sitting around.
Yeah that was bizarre. I think it was a mistake getting rid of the Holiday Shop. They could have turned it into the Holiday Stall or something and it only pops up when it's actually a holiday and doesn't RS useless stuff the rest of the year like it used to.
I didn't even think of this yet o_0 You have a point.
Vending -> makes items worthless. So items you get from quests also become worthless and items you get from restocking also become worthless. So most things become worthless and it will be harder to make money. Everyone go play games to earn money! too bad they are broke
With the valentines event I just fragged everything I got from the machine because it was worthless anyway.

I'm guessing that the real reason for it all is not enough artists to keep a good supply of new items in the NPC shops along with new items for the holiday events. Making us jump through hoops to get hold of one or two new bits and pieces in quest shops and vending etc is supposed to keep us happily occupied.
As people have pointed out, vending for special items just fills our shops with worthless junk. On the bright side, though, we can make a nice profit from some quests because the items we have to hand in cost very little in user shops.
No, the real reason is that they want people to not restock, to confirm that nobody restocks.
Staff, nobody restocks because vending crashed the value on everything. I've been saying this for YEARS that vending is AWFUL for the economy, and yet, vending gets special items added.
We know staff has an agenda against restocking, it was said multiple times.
Pressing a button 250 times a day does not enhance Subeta as a website. I don't get the "added value" and the "quality activity" vending is supposed to be. It's grindy, it's monotonous, it's not fun, and its presence in the economy is just bad.
This. So much this. Starred x1000.
I can't remember where I saw it but Keith said restocking was taken from Neopets and he wants to get away from it.(Or something along those lines), Going by that reasoning, Subeta should get rid of the following - pets, minions (petpets), quests, pet battling, the MC because Neopets has a shop for millionaires etc. etc. This would leave Subeta as nothing more than an HA making site.
Scrap wizard tokens altogether and have the vending machines take 10k sP per vend and people will stop overusing it.
Why we have 200 million different currencies is still a mystery to me.
I've never had a particularly high view of vending; it just farts out already devalued items into the economy, thus devaluing them further. It requires only the most minimal amount of effort and participation, especially when coupled with the autopricer. Even if they were just looking for a way to stop the build up of wizard tokens in people's vaults, there has to be a better way than this.
It might just be my tendency to jump to paranoid conspiracy theories, but with all the talk of removing the restocking, it does look a little like a quiet attempt to tank the economy and then go "OH NO IT'S BROKEN HERE'S A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM!".
Or you know. Find a way to make the TS automated and relevant again. All of these new items could have gone in the TS, if you really wanted to sink tokens.
I was really surprised to see vending exclusive items. Aren't they always smacking us behind the head with their "Vending has been limited because it devalues stuff and encourage hoarding (and hoarders)".
Well to that, I answer: Make up your damn mind already.
