I like the idea of it. I have seen users be overly rude to others when they may have posted a suggestion or something that had already been. I mean people do accidentally overlook things or something, no reason to bite their head off. So great idea, hopefully it works. :)
But I seen someone say something about adding about the debate forum, maybe. So if you do have something to say to debate about well there you go. That yeah don't be rude but make sure to show that opinions do matter and can be voiced even if they tend to be against the person, just don't be rude.

TBH I'd like to delete the debate forums.

One of the ones who's not a Neo refugee, I came over from Gaia. But Gaia is not the nicest place either. I was blown away when I came here what wonderful people there were. Some of those people are not here anymore. But there are still so many amazing people on this site. This includes staff, you guys are awesome. I love that the guidelines are simple, clear, concise. Respect, kindness, helpfulness. Encouragement and openness. and discouragement of bullying and negative behaviors. I agree with a few of the statements about users who are not native English speakers. There really needs to be a resource for them. I helped initiate something like that on another site, where people could get a translator when dealing with mods and rules and just forum stuff, users sometimes volunteer for that feature.I would help but I speak English, and enough Spanish to get me into trouble but not out of it.
We are the ones who remember, the ones who see what was, and is, and will be.

....that would probably deal with most of what I said, then. Apologies for not being aware that that was the long term plan!
I still think an appeal system for warnings is a thing that would be a real improvement, though.

- I appreciate the recognition hun, but I know Newbie won't be linked. It would take away the spotlight of their own guide they're doing and we can't have that
As for the guidelines, I think we're going in the right direction and I hope that it makes this place better in the long run.

I really like your idea for the don't be a jerk button,I wonder if this could be expanded on in a way that would take some of the day to day strain off the mini mods...Allowing the users to maybe help mod in some form. Now I have ideas I can't put into words just yet swirling about my noggin.
It'd be great if we had a way like this to keep each other in line :)
These look good, I just have a little nitpick about the "Don't Be That Guy" one. The word "gross" is pretty immature, especially in this context. I get wanting it to read as friendly guidelines, but it comes across more like a 14 year old on Tumblr. Can we change it to "bigoted" or something similar?
(Also, I'd like to see more people follow this one, actually. I've seen too much "You can't have a proper opinion on this issue because you're white/male/cis/etc.", even in the debate forums. Discuss their argument, not their background!)
Edit: Woops, should refresh before posting. I don't mind the debate forums going away, really.
That does make more sense. is really helpful too as well as . She has a pet for new players as a guide to help them.
I actually reblogged newbie on the Subeta tumblr blog because I really like it, and I'd link it elsewhere, too!

I don't know how to quote others in that box--though I just noticed the guide on that yesterday, but due to all the issues both of you brought up I can't keep up with learning new things.
Regardless, I wanted to thank both of you cause I "get it" about age (almost 60 here) and disability and trouble seeing/reading and my brain feeling scrambled most of the time, so I'm glad you brought that up. It feels very supportive.
And thanks to Keith for this forum. I usually stay away from forums because I see too many sad issues with how ppl relate to one another.
The comments to news items is where I see the most rude and unkind behavior. It almost seems as if people think they can get away with it there because it's not a regular forum.
As for negativity, that's a problem because whenever there's something posted in the news, and people are simply expressing their opinion about it, I usually see others who attack those folks (it seems that if someone says "gee I wish this were different" they get attacked) and THAT is not being negative, it's simply having an opinion.
So what I mean by attacks is that there are ppl who "yell" at others and tell them to stop complaining and to "appreciate subeta" and even tell them to "chill" and to "hold onto your cheese pants" (or some such nonsense) and in my opinion the folks who react to others in such vehement ways are being SO rude while the ones who simply said that they don't like something were perfectly OK.
I think it's fine to say if you don't like some aspect of subeta and it's not hurting anyone, but if someone attacks another simply for expressing an opinion (that is NOT negative, JUST an opinion and subeta NEEDS to know if we don't like things) they shouldn't be attacked for that.
I've stopped making remarks cause often others don't understand my POV (and it could be a generational thing so I've felt it was "ageist" even if they don't know how old I am, but that's me being overly sensitive) and anyway, I've had situations where I felt attacked and I never reported it.
I'm VERY glad of these guidelines and I hope it will make a difference. I enjoy reading peoples' reactions and comments, but I was getting too sad when I saw all the bickering and back stabbing, so I just stopped looking.
Maybe it will be safe to go back to reviewing reactions to news items now that Keith has posted this.
Thank you so much, Keith!
This is so great ! Im not sure if this has been brought up, but there are a lot of downright mean and negative reactions to younger players posting their ideas and suggestions. A lot of these reactions come from grown adults. Everyone's ideas should be encouraged, and if they are unrealistic or silly, there is still absolutely no need to be so hateful and hurtful about it !
To be honest, I think it should probably stay a very simple word, not everyone speaks English and there are younger players who won't know what bigoted means.
That said, I think the guidelines are alright, but has it been discussed about how new users will see this? Most people, unless made to read it in the beginning, would probably just ignore it. But then nobody reads Terms of Agreements, so I don't know.
I really liked what said, and even though shutting down the debate forum might help with some of the problems, I still think the vagueness of the rules might lead to uncertainty. Also I have always been wondering about why there is no appeal system and I think a simple appeal system might be a very good idea and not too much work.
❤️
Definitely support this, I think all the rules are well written.
I like this a lot, especially rewarding members that are helpful c:
I've seen so many people being downright rude/disrespectful for little to no reason before to members and staff alike, so hopefully this will cut down on it more.
[edit] I do have to say that I agree with though, if punishment is to be implemented, whether it be a temporary banning from the forums/SB or an actual warning like you'd get for an infraction of the rules, I'd have to agree that the rules could use some clarification.

Wow, the new subeta community guidelines are great! They are easy to read, short and simple and straight to the point. I hope these guidelines are followed accordingly by everyone and if there is inappropriate statements, ideas, feedback or pictures reported on subeta- then having a "time out" ...also noted on "Community Guidelines" as being banned for periods of time from social areas is a good way to teach those wrongful subeta players a lesson. Also, with the many neopet players that are traveling from that site to this one... Gosh, I don't know how many new subeta players I've met so far that used to be a neo-player and has retired or just got tired playing that site because this site has so much more to offer but as far as being part of the subeta community- Again, I'd like to say that these guidelines are appropriate and hope the best for the Subeta community as it grows bigger everyday. Yay!! :)

I have read the guidelines. I find them very straightforward and easy to read and understand.
I don't spend a lot of time on the forums and I haven't experienced a lot of the goings-on that have been going on. However, this set of guidelines looks to me like it would foster the kind of online community that I enjoy being part of.
I haven't got any critical feedback. It looks good to me and I'm glad that these guidelines exist. Thank you for making them.
I really think this is a good idea,(especially the Be Patient part) and I really hope that it can help things as I've seen many users new and old get all kinds of flack and hate for asking questions or sharing their opinions on things, I really try to avoid the forums most of the time because of all the drama that goes on here. I really hope that these guidelines will help to make newbies and oldies alike more comfortable being part of the community.

In that case I emphatically ditto what said a few posts above me.
As they exist, the ones you got here are laughably vague. As a former victim of some rather retarded and quite reaching wtf interpretations of Neopet's rules, I don't like these at all. Over there you get no redress at all. Over here you only get redress if they're verbal warnings.
I like the guidelines (cutely written!) but honestly I already see the positive behavior daily in the forums o-o It's honestly the best internet community I've ever come across. I don't see the drastic need for them to be implemented unless.... Are you bracing and setting foundation for a max influx of new members? I can see where a bigger community, yes, needs a least minor guidelines.
Otherwise I have a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of approach to the community.
