I thought crystals stacked %s? Maybe I'm wrong about this. Idk actually.
And doesn't speed have a crit tie in? Avoid crits from opponents and more crits? Not useless...
Yep, those tests were all done with the attack and defense being just one point ahead of each other. This weapon's requirements for the different attacks are so finicky. I feel that the attack version is the worst in every category, even offense (thanks to it barely being stronger in its main attack and lacking the curse).

I don't understand why 1 point difference even exists? I could understand the attack changing if Str is 5000 while Def is 4000 (and vice-versa). But even then, sucks for those who already own pets with uneven builds.
I'm not sure, but I think it's likely the %'s stack. I have 4 CS crystals on one of my weapons, and I notice the critical strikes happening more often. Same if I have double blessing armor, or 3 parched tear crystals.

I am pretty sure they stack. I even think it shows that they do when modifying weapons... I'm not sure about that though, I always thought it did but it might not, I don't pay much attention.
is this weapon going to get revamped again? I think most of us would appreciate a change. Even making this weapon have three modes that you switch them manually would be better. Having it depend on your build without just having it scale as your stats get stronger makes it unfair for pets with uneven builds already and really ruins the potential this weapon could have had.
-shrugs- I tend to favor blessing of armor since it has a steal protect. Wish we had a baguette version of it that lasted longer than 2 rounds. Agreed, I need to know the final stats for the skull staff. Already got the Focus figured out.

lol. My exact thoughts.
Idc that the staff isnt elite. And i like where this is heading. Its just that its biases should be worked out better. IE str and def differentials of 500 points instead of just 1 seems so much more reasonable.
For spd, perhaps they could make it so that every 1k of spd over 2k, it gives an extra 10% chance of curse/blessing activation. Just something simple. Then again, having a full blown suggestion/ideas thread could help brainstorm (if they choose so).
@ kbbob
I dont think the %'s stack but they act as individual blocks. So instead of a 20% chance, you have 4 separate 5% chances, which is almost exactly the same. Though Im sure someone can confirm/deny.
edit: im am perfectly happy with the way the focus is though.
FINAL STATS OF TWISTED KEEPER FOCUS
Twisted Keeper Focus NEW
Tier 9
Mod Slots: 4
Healing, Freezing, Stealing rates Scale by Speed
Unaffected by scaling
Attack: 16 Dark
Defense: 25 dark, 25 ice, 25 wind (75 icons)
<1999 Speed Heal: -3% Other: Lowest steal and freeze rate 2000-2999 Speed Heal: -1% Other: Low steal and freeze rates 3000-3999 Speed Heal: 1% Other: Moderate steal and freeze rates 4000+ Speed Heal: 2% Curse: ? Other: High steal and freeze rate
Can't remember if there's a curse or not. But if we're all in agreement on this, then I will edit this into the OP and put the Focus to rest.

Well that is almost as good as stacking.
I only use parch and singe, I like when they steal usually, means I can emo spork them
I really like the weapon and the direction staff is going with build suited weapons. I think it's fantastic and as more and more of these pop up, it will add more customizability. Speed is certainly not a dead stat. I'm certain there was people with lower strength than me and worse weapons than me doing more damage per battle against the bosses than me solely because of their much higher chance to crit. That serves it's purpose just fine. It is most definitely the least useful stat, but no matter what one of them is going to be... I wouldn't mind seeing a little more function added to speed to maybe encourage me to raise mine a bunch after the cap raise, but it doesn't need to become the most important stat. Perhaps it should be tied in to most all weapons blessing/curse/freeze/steal rates (but not mod activation rates ofc). That would be a small improvement to its usefulness.
So yes right now you could probably make a speedless build and it would be fantastic, but I think any stat focus build is fairly viable right now, some better for some things than others. Obviously not the super extremes like 13k x and 3k everything else, but it would still hold it's own.
I think customization will come a lot more in to play when 2 player is re-introduced (wishful thinking) as well.
Back to the staff, it's actually kind of awesome.. it's a versatile god weapon, what the hell else do ya'll want. a steady 42 icons per turn unmodded is fantastic and the 60 icons of def would prove more useful when used as a secondary and blocking an opponents main icons with something else. I would like the icon types to change, I'm really sick of water attacks and dark def, but meh, if this trend keeps up and more weps like this are slowly released, I'll be elated.
[edit] about the mod % chance of activations. 2 of them will stack such that 2 10%'s will add 10%+10%-(10%*10%) because they are each independent chances of each other, so you have to discount the chances they both activate at the same time which would have no additional effect.
did you ever get the blessing to proc on the str > def mode? I just got it. is that a change or something I just never had happen before?
The blessing has a low proc rate on the strength version.
I think the weapon is going to stay as it is. Yeah, it can be tough when a single training lesson will bump an evenly trained pet into one or the other, but that's a perk at the same time. Need a defensive weapon? Boom. One stat, and you have it.
I really hate weapons like Prodigy Staff right now. I don't want to make any more things that are immediately OP if you have a capped pet, regardless of what the stats are. I want to make builds more important. Speed and defense need more importance. Expect to see more weapons like the staff and the focus in the future!
I'm even up for making weapons that'll allow for a low hp, high/str/def/spd build. Like if hp is less than 1000 and the others are higher than 3k, icons will get full blocked, and not just block... 100 of something. Stuff like that. Everything is on the table right now.
will a weapon like that entice anyone to actually make a build with 999 hp and 3k other stats? creating a build to use a specific set of weapons isn't very practical right now. it takes a long time to get a pet to a build, and finally when some of us are getting pets to the desired builds we have, we're being told that we should aim for completely different builds? The way the big bosses are right now, and I don't imagine them changing, damage is the only thing that matters.
and going from the str = def to the str > def by one stat is a nerf in every stat except two icons. when you're capped you can't jump around from build to build.
I like the motivation behind this. I just don't think it will actually work in converting people into using other builds. It'll just make the new weapons unused for the large majority.
But I do appreciate the variety in the weapons coming out.
Would it be possible to give def and speed passive buffs that your pet unlocks once your def or speed reach a certain threshhold? That would make these stats more important.
I don't think this weapon or the next weapon will make people change their builds, but I think the trend will make more builds viable and the in the long term we'll see more unique builds. A lot of the old weapons are never going to be released again, so these new weapons will have the most effect on the up and coming battlers rather than those who are already capped. I'm fine with that, I think it's a great direction to be headed long term and will work on my lower tier pets accordingly :D.
I can't wait to see what the next new wep is gonna look like, soooooo if the BA's wanna go ahead and start battle week now, yeeeaaaah, that'd be great, thanks.
Regarding different builds - I'm basically hoading EXP PTs on my pets as I really have no idea what build I should give each pet. It's hard to have a goal to work torwards build wise.
What can help me fix this? so i can spend some of the exp pts
Thank you [Kiss=smilesnz] [Dance=smilesnz] [Flower=smilesnz]
Huh well reading what wrote... I have 4 battlers.. never really considered different build types but seeing that... I think now I'll work on something different for my tier 11 and then something totally different from that for my tier 8. It's going to be difficult but if weapons will cater to different builds then it would be fun to have room for testing.
or
Will those weapons and scroll make a return next year? 'cause right now everybody and their mother are after the few available, prices skyrocketing with people outbidding each other like crazy... I'd much rather settle for making a decision to battle again during the 2015 events and trying to earn my own...
We don't re-release plot challengers unless we just put out a couple at a time during a special event like battle week or the recent site anniversary, and in that case we change their loot. So it's unlikely that these challengers will return, and even less likely that we'll re-release that weapon and scroll.
Not to stir the pot, but why do battle items seem to be subetas exception to the nothing is retired forever. I don't mind it at all really, it's just odd. Yeah I'd like battle items to hold their value, but I'd like all items to hold their value o.O
I don't know. It's probably a combination of things. The battle dept. has always been tiny and battle admins have always had an interest in keeping valuable weapons valuable, so when other staffers ask about re-releasing things, we say no. Top battle prizes tend to require a lot of effort to get and often go out in the smallest quantities, so we want them to retain their value to keep battlers interested in battling (why would people work so hard and spend so much SP on their pets if they only earned worthless stuff once they hit the top levels?). On top of that, we tend to consider godlies to be almost too powerful, so we really don't want every battler owning them.
Just to chime in with the opinion of another user-- I like that weapons don't have to be released par say? Like the only one that comes back every year is the MW and a set number of Cores/ME, and those two are vastly cheaper than the rest for that reason-- two years ago the MW was selling for 350m and it's a freakin' tier 12 godly xD (ie: re-releasage isn't that wonderful).
Anyways, I like that with weapons the item itself doesn't matter as much as what it does. So instead of re-releasing a thing someone had no chance of getting originally, and giving everyone and their mother a copy of (see: large gutting knife, that I couldn't even win originally, this last time I got 3 or 4 copies), a new one that serves that needed purpose can be created instead. Like instead of slaughtering the price of Blackmoons Staff, the Cronus Blade was born? I like that about weapons, and (god/demi-god)scrolls even x:
