Then I guess it's a good thing I didn't put up the one song from the books The Girl in the Garden. While the Gaselli aren't called Gypsies to me it is clear they were based somewhat on them. They are thieves, they steal humans to eat.

Pet and user name should be left up to the individual. If, in light of what might be new information to them, someone wants to change a pet or username, a one time free alteration could be allowed. Individuals should not have to be afraid that a beloved pet is going to get them frozen or have to have it's name changed. That's why I left Neopets for Subeta, when they suddenly decided anything with Hell in it was a bad/banned word.

Site items yes, names no.

Jess hit the nail on the head :) I am curious too because I know some people might be a bit upset if usernames and petnames are forced to change. I know has Gypsy.

I also thought the word 'gyp' / 'gypped' was spelt jip. In fact I've never seen anyone use it any other way. There I go being unaware again.

As for usernames/pet names, I think those should fall under an exception. Since there are actual people out there with the name. I skimmed through a few pets with the name earlier and at least 2 of them, were named after cats. I can only assume the pets were created after their actual cat.

...Right. No. Staff at least now see the issue with having the word on the site. And again in my opinion, the rest of the site should follow suit. Using one less word that's considered a slur hurts nobody, especially when there are acceptable alternates. Believe me when I admit that I'm one of the people who thought gypsies = beautiful dancers and fortune tellers. I never used the word in a deragotory sense, and I plan to completely stop using it. It wouldn't hurt anyone else to learn to not romanticize the word as well.

And this is why I'm asking if anything is going to be done with user/pet names. Nobody has received an answer about this yet. And yes, we are still using the word in this thread. However if things were changed and that word no longer be allowed, I would gladly stop using it and even go back to edit my prior posts to take it out.

I honestly think if that were my name and one day I decided to change my username to it on here, hypothetically speaking, I'd be really offended if it told me my name wasn't allowed to be used.

Good news is that Keith just confirmed it will not be changed :D I wouldn't want to give it up either. Used in the right way it really is a beautiful name :D
