Racism is one of those 'more important' things. We as individual people can't always take large steps to combat it, so we take small steps, like fixing the use of a slur in a handful of items and descriptions on a pet site. To a large number of people, the word 'gypsy' is on par with the n-word. Unfortunately, you liking the word 'gypsy' does not erase its past, or how it is still being used.

Why aren't CWs being held to the same standards with regard to names as real items? Does staff really think that users will be any less offended by the item if it's a CW and not an official item? Why can't the creator of that CW be asked to come up with a new name?

With there being an exception made for a CW, this change seems rather superficial, and it also makes it seem like the site's need for money is more important than the site's desire to be mature and non-offensive.

Like I never knew the word was offensive to some. To me it never had a negative meaning, but maybe I just live under a rock or something. Either way, if it is offensive to a large sum of people, then I'm glad Subeta changed it.

I do think that CW item name needs to be changed, if you're going to make a site-change then CW or not it needs to fit with the rest of the site otherwise it just seems like most of this was for absolutely nothing.

As for the and I don't feel either of these need to be changed.

I guess I should add how I react to things here,if something offends me,I move on,I don't try to report people,I realize that people have the right to speak,I got that idea from the first amendment in the constitirion

It doesn't bother me one bit and I'm part of the original nations. Then again, I dont worry about being politically correct, native American sounds nice but if you're born here, aren't you native to the land? I also accept that there are others who want any and every store, team, product and anything else out there that has an image or name like the Washington Redskins banned, removed, destroyed. Actual roma/romani(/whatever they prefer to be referred to as) person that commented on this board, and you think you get to decide if we should use a racial slur just because you like it? You like a racist term. It has been used in racist ways for a very long time. Just because it has other meanings doesn't make it less offensive. Just because fag means a cigarette in British slang doesn't make it not a homophobic slur in American slang.

Your post makes it sound like there ARE plans to change it, after it's discussed with the creator. I am hoping your post is the accurate one...? Did just word his post poorly?

While 'gypsy' doesn't really have much of a negative connotation where I live, it's good to see the items and NPCs changed since obviously in some parts of the world it is a racist term. I like the word too (and I don't see anything wrong with liking how any word sounds), but I wouldn't place that above the feelings of people who are offended by it.

While at times people can go overboard with "political correctness", this isn't one of those times. Racism is a legitimate issue and it makes sense for people to want the items and NPCs renamed because they include a racist word.

Really happy to see this change, not only for courtesy to the Romani, but it fits the Subeta world better.

P.S. Off topic I know but I have to add.... , buying from your shop makes me giggle like a little girl. I'll actually spend a few extra sp to buy from you, cause "You have purchased ___ from My Vagina" is so amusing.

I think this is a wonderful change. While I may personally think that some one-off items should be change (such as those making light of abuse), racism and slurs are far more important of an issue. Just because one culture thinks something is okay doesn't make it fine with another. "Gypsy" is, in most cases, used as a negative term or brings up negative imagery. Continuing the use is not okay, especially when it's so easy to change. So while I may not be part of the affected group of people, I still thank the site admin for taking this into consideration.

just gonna put it out there that working to fight racism, prejudice and stereotyping (even the subtle stuff that you might not be aware is actively hurting people) is an extremely valid use of our time, because everyone is deserving of basic human dignity.

And how is fighting racism not important? Are you aware of how many people have been mass murdered because of racism? Because they were romani? How is that not important?
