That's excellent! :) Congratulations on such great progress.
- You are making such great progress! You'll catch up in no time!
Thanks, you two!
I really am trying to get to that 50k mark. There is no getting around the fact that it would be a huge boost to my projects if I could do that.
Anyway, I am about to get to work on my projects again. Hopefully my muse will cooperate when I get to work on the more intensive writing later today in what seems to be my productivity zone. Would probably be in the late morning-early afternoon if I had a "normal" schedule. Buuuut... I don't though so... Yeah. XD
My schedule during the week is only "normal" because I have a desk job... :p
Good luck with your stuff!! Here's hoping the right people are talking and the others are respectfully quiet.
So far I haven't gotten anything done really... Was playing with Inkscape because I had agreed to make a sign for my mom and she reminded me after I finished nibbling on "breakfast"... While I was at it, I made myself a little vector snowflake for my author photo on Nano. XD
-grabs a water bottle, another snack to nibble on, and settles in to write for a while-
I struggled to keep my schedule normal while I working. I don't know how many times I had to go to work on two to four hours of sleep. I'm not working right now though because of health problems and my schedule fluctuates... Mostly it's sleep all day and stay up all night though. -is a night owl- Whoo whoo... LOL
Thanks for the luck, by the way! I'll probably need it since it's the "wisest" characters in my stories that I need to talk to me right now and they can be a bit... evasive... (Trying to figure out how stuff works within my most developed sci-fi meets fantasy projects.)
Yeah, if given free reign I would probably sleep until about 3pm and then be up until like 6am and repeat that pattern. But job requires me to be here at 7am, and I know I'm useless if I don't sleep. I've done that thing where you come to work with your energy tank two clicks above empty, and I've found that I'm so incredibly miserable that I'd rather just try to force myself to sleep the night before instead.
Ugh, writing wise characters is hard. They're so smart. I dunno about you, but when I write "wise" types I always worry that what they're saying is really dumb or obvious instead of wise and mystical. Writer worries...
I'm at work and so I'm just sketching headshots of my characters in between projects. So far I have the two MCs from book 2, 2-out-of-3 MCs for books 1 and 3, and a supplemental character who appears briefly in book 2 and more prominently in book 3. Sometimes having them drawn gives me a better feel for them as characters.
I'm almost at 25k, but I feel TERRIBLY uninspired. :( Maybe I should just drink more coffee and give my story a really weird plot twist... I feel like I'm running out of things to write.
I've heard throwing something entirely unexpected at your characters can sometimes help you regain your footing and keep going :) I'm cheering for you (and them)!
Well, it seems that everything is conspiring against me right now... I just spent the last hour preparing the chimney and wood stove. Then I had to fight to get a fire going... (Took me about 20 minutes just for that because most of the wood is wet or too green.) Wouldn't have worried about it but it's going to be cold tonight and our gas heater is kinda on the fritz.
Anyway, at least I'm done with it now and this is what is typically my most productive time so hopefully it'll all work out okay.
I don't necessarily define them as wise in the story. I just keep them in the know, more than the rest of the characters.
I do headshots and sketches as well. They never look quite the way I want though so I could hardly call it a fun endeavor. It's certainly not something I will doing for these stories unless I have to.
Ahh, that makes sense :)
Yeah, they're turning out better than I thought, but it's not like "yes this is exactly how I see you in my head" - it just gives me a quick reference I can check back to so I don't completely contradict myself.
I'm glad you got your fire going. I wish our landlord would tell us if the fireplace has been checked here in the past couple years - it would be nice to be able to use it.
-tappity tappity tap- I'm almost at 1000 more words for my word count. Keep getting distracted though... This time by my 8 year old cat... She's currently snuggled under my jacket, helping me stay warm. Such a selfless little thing. XD
I don't think I am gonna manage another 1000 (which would get me to my 3000+ goal) but I am hoping to get at least 500 more so I'm not far off where NaNo says I need to be to meet my goal.
Most of the time, I have a mental image, like a photograph or drawing, that pops up. (Usually referencing some image I've seen at some point.) Come to think of it, that may be why I can keep track of so many different characters and plots at a time. Hrmmm... -shrugs- Who knows?
Anyway, it is time for a break... My tummy is growling. (Pretty sure that isn't my cat, at least. LOL)
anyone? Today was supposed to be the day I caught up again... didn't write a thing!
Yeah, I usually have images in my head, but I like to have a more concrete image sometimes just for reference :3
I'm around now!
- Cool, want to do 20 @ :10?
Okay! I might have to run away in the middle but that's okay, I don't mind XD
Well, I just reached 2600 words written today which is enough to meet NaNoWriMo's suggested goal. I'm gonna play on Subeta for a bit then at midnight (about 2 hours away here) I'll try to get a start on tomorrow's count.
I guess I create a reference image too... with words... in my notes...
You know what... I just figured out a way to raise my word count even more when I get back at it, more than I had planned. -dances around- Deeply detailed descriptions, for the win! LOL
- I need to get better at detailed descriptions! Would be a good way to buff up my word count!
lol yeah! I just... didn't really do the massive character descriptions for these characters like I usually do. I dunno. I jumped in on last year's NaNo on 11/13 and ran for it. I wasn't really that prepared. And now I'm writing with the same characters, so it's not even something I really thought about...
Did you still do 20 at the :10?
I take short cuts...
I'll come up with something basic like dull brown hair, track down a thesaurus, look at the synonyms, then look at their synonyms... And so on for each feature until it reads like I want it to...
OR
I find a picture or multiple pictures on the internet (or on my computer or in a book) with attributes I like for that character then try to very specifically describe those attributes. XD
How in-depth I get totally depends on how interested I am in getting specific... Since they are all words that will count... I'd be doing them now (that I've thought of it) even if I was able to make reference sketches. LOL
