- Back?
anyone?
Welcome back :) I've got only about 300 words to go for today's par!
- nice, I've still got 4000! w00!
You can do it! It's really surprising how quickly the words go when you just start typing.
- Yeah, I know, but my head still gets in the way, ya'know? I write out a scnene and then I'm like that was awful, and then I can't go to the next scene until that one is fixed. And the problem with working on one continual story from last nano, is... I forget facts. Did the dragons disappear 100 years ago, or 1000 yrs ago?
Ahhh, yeah, I totally get what you mean. The hardest thing for me last year was just learning how to let go. You can edit later, and fact check too. I realized right after writing a big scene involving food in my story for last year that my MC has a deep, ridiculous love for satsuma oranges (yeah I have no idea, but it's A Thing regardless). All I could think about was re-writing that scene. But if I re-wrote that one, I'd end up going back and struggling to fix about 6 others that were legitimately terrible. So it was a matter of writing a note of "FIX THIS LATER" and moving on. Or in some cases, writing a paragraph summary/outline of what I wanted to go back into the scene and re-do, put it up at the start of that scene and highlight it in bright red. That way you get word credit for everything you've written, even if you change it later.
- Yup, I do that a lot, write notes to myself to come back and fix things. Problem with that is I never hit the editing phase! And then I'm like, oh yeah I was going to change that, and then didn't, and now I can't write this properly cus it didn't fit with the way I wrote that scene. I already did that once this year, re-wrote a scene in LAST year's nano to make it fit better with what I was writing just now!
Yeah... I desperately need to edit last year's project. I just... the first 25k are okay! I was doing it with thought and planning. The 25k, though, are pure crap. There are no redeeming qualities. I know what I want to do with it, but I also know before I re-write it I need to read over the manure that was vomited out of my brain in a pure, unthinking word dump in the last few days of NaNo last year. I just re-outlined a few things so I can reference it this year and know what I've done (or intend to have done) and where I'm going.
You're very dedicated to be continuing your same story again!
- Maybe this year I can actually edit it in december instead of being lazy and doing nothing on it all year long! I really need to go back and visit my 200k monster though, it started taking some terrible turns in the last two 50k instalments, and the first two 50k installments are unecessarily long for the story.
Ahh big writing projects. They're so... unwieldy. Fabulous... but unwieldy.
Also, I'm getting real tired of the NaNo website refusing to update my word count :(
I've got some stuff to finish up first, but I should be up for a war by :45 or so if you'll still be around? :)
It's been doing that to me too. I've found it does it less if I put in my word count and then bump it up or down a word using the little arrows in the input box. No idea why that affects it, but it does seem to help.
- I'll still be around.
- Yeah, I tried posting to the forum today to tell them I won't be at the meet up tonight, and I kept getting 404 error.
Also, the people in my region are silly. We have write-in events thursday, friday, saturday and monday, all of which I can't go to, so I made a thread that was like, hey guys, I work thurs-sun and I can't go to the monday night write-ins, would anyone be interested in tuesday or wednesday write-ins during the day? And the responses I got were like, I could do wednesday, but only after 6pm, and Oh, I could totally go for a friday afternoon write in! It's like really people... did you even read the original post, or i dunno maybe the TITLE of the thread!
Yeah - I find it updates if I'm persistent and keep poking it in constant attempts to get it to work. I keep getting the 503 errors on the entire site, too - not just when updating :(
I feel you. The main write-ins for my home region are weekdays in the middle of the day, and I work 7-3:30 every day. At least there's Subeta...?
- Dammit, I should live in your region! lol! Ours are all on weekends and evenings when I can't go cus I work until 7.
- you still up for in 5?
LOL our regions and our schedules would be perfect if they were flipped.
- Ok go!
- Yeah, srsly. You want to in on our word war?
A little while ago I would have jumped on it! Thank you for asking :) The girlfriend and I are just settling in for a couple episodes of Gravity Falls though since I made it past par for today. If only the site would allow updates. Sigh. Resume continuous poking.
Good luck to both of you!! I'll just be over here cheering you on :)
jumps right in
I think my biggest downfall is going to be wanting to, and doing it, go back and editing what I just wrote. I need to keep in mind that it's okay to keep it unedited. I spent a good 5 minutes getting frustrated over my wording of one sentence. :(
So this is me telling myself.... Just write. Win. Edit next month! :)
