My 8-year-old female and I have similar personalities and problems. Mainly, we are both anxious and we are both picky about our foods because our stomachs are easily upset. My 1-year-old male doesn't like storms either but he can't stay still so... He doesn't get to come into my office space. Ever. He's an annoyance, most of the time, but he's also much more "lovey-dovey" and can be so adorable. -sighs-

Today has been a truly icky day so far and I'm not looking forward to getting home and staring at a blank Word document for 3 hours :(

I could but I feel like I shouldn't because my goal is to write every single day this month so if I slack off today it's like I'm disregarding all the hard work I did pushing through other days when I really didn't want to work on stuff.

Just going to give it some time for a bit... I just got home and have some things I need to deal with before I can even think about looking at writing.

I put in about 5000 useless words - stuff I probably won't be going back to later - but I am over the day 24 word count so... Very happy about that. (I did spend the first part of the day on useful info and got about 1500 words towards that. I'm happy about that as well.)

Mainly though, I am just happy it will all be done and over by next week. I am ready for this NaNo thing being over and I haven't even been at it as long as you guys.

I'm having a hard time getting into my world tonight. There's too much going on in the real one, both in my personal life and in general.

When I woke up this evening, I found my characters for my current projects had locked the door and put up a "Keep Out" sign... I'm hoping I can lure them out with chocolate in the next few hours so I can actually put some more useful stuff into my file.

Even professional writers have to take a break for real life once and a while, I imagine. If you can't find the words, maybe you should take this time and write an outline for what you want to happen next... Even if you aren't there yet. Or... Do some research. You know, just something to do with the project but just maybe not something you have to work at as much. You may find inspiration to help you get back into the story writing. -shrugs-

I outlined everything in October, actually - but that would be a fantastic idea if I hadn't! Mostly I'm trying to push through this BS scene (which unfortunately also includes some important points I have to hit to make later stuff make sense) so I can move onto something else that fits my mood. I have a hard time skipping around and writing things out of order or else I'd just shelve this and move on. That, and I'm so close to done with this chapter that I just want to finish it so I don't have to worry about it until I revise it all.

I hope you're able to coax your kids out to play some more with you. I'm gonna keep trying to hammer through this scene... I think if I can power out about 500 more words it'll be done and I can move on. Fingers crossed, right?

LOL Well, that's good. I still haven't had the chance to sit down and work up a complete outline for any of my stories. I'd like to though so I guess that's why my mind goes there first. XD I mean, I wouldn't have called myself a "pantster" before but my plot planning wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. Outlining is probably what I'll be doing most of December, if I have my way. That and putting in some work on the dialogue and action for the two main projects I had to set aside once I decided to try for the NaNo 50k. (Those two won't need any in-depth outlining until I get what I already know written down.)

Anyway, it sounds like you have a plan... Even if you can only power through part of that 500 words, you can still count on me being impressed with your work ethic towards your writing.

I have such respect for pantsers! I can't write things without an outline... if I do, everything starts to drag and I lose sight of where I was going. My outline for this book spans 4 pages :( I probably overdid it, honestly. It's amazing to me that you have so much together even though you started so late and you're just going off the cuff. Astounding!

lol thank you :) It's not really all that impressive imo, but I've been told I need to learn how to take a compliment. To me, it's just trying to get myself into the habit of writing every day regardless of how I feel... to get the ideas that swarm in my head down onto paper so I can maybe finally hear myself think. Too many stories; not enough time.

- still need words tonight? True to my word, I did not write 8000 words at the write in and am still behind! Need to write more! But I finally got past the stupid scene of doom (that will probably need to be redone about 6 more times before I'm happy with it)

I definitely need words x_x I need to get past this scene. Basically whenever I have to write this particular secondary character I have fits because I can't nail down her characterization.

I want her to be a character that isn't just universally hated - she's an antagonist of sorts, but she's actually not a genuinely bad person despite being kind of naive and spoiled and too damn privileged for her own good (and has never had anyone telling her to check that privilege).

But yes. Long story short. Words x_x I needs them.

- 20 min war @ :10? Sounds like a difficult character, reminds me of all those poor female characters in male-centric magna/anime that are just hated because they are girls ruining the slash moments! My main antagonist is only really a bad person because she is being blackmailed into it, but I do have another random side antagonist character who is pretty universally hated. I wrote her her own chapter. It was fun to write (chances are it'll get cut later though)

Yeah, she probably will be like one of those... sadly. She's actually very intelligent. It's just when you've had people telling you your entire life "this is how you are, this is how it's going to be, this is what you're going to do" - well, it doesn't really encourage you to think that there's anything wrong with the way you're acting XD;

Add in the super awkward reality that the Prince, the person she's been "trained for" to marry for her whole life, is literally engaged to someone else... yeah, I feel for her. I hope in later drafts I'm able to revise her to actually be herself.

There is such a thing as too much outlining but for a proper novel 4 pages doesn't sound that bad. I'll probably average out around that amount for my stories, maybe more if I include my character specs. Of course, I am planning on making sure I list my key points in there with some amount of explanation so I can keep track of everything... So I may end up with a 7 page outline for my alien/AU/AE stories -which encompasses 90% of my projects - before I am done. LOL

I have it in my head that I am gonna try to make my words worthwhile until I have 50k, but I'll probably just throw more useless junk at it. Especially since my characters seem to be ignoring my bait. I've even tried looking at a "Type of Villain" list to see if any of the villains wanted to come play. But no... Nothing.

It's entirely plot outline in my case... nothing about the characters or the world or the religion I'm creating or anything XD; I thought it was really detailed until I actually started writing and realized it's super damn vague LOL. Good luck on luring people... I'm not sure how to do it if all the things you've tried aren't working :O

Haha, yeah I had a pretty detailed map of my story going on, and it mostly broke down!
