hmm....my heritage is a lot of different things. My ancestors hail from all over the world, the most prominent being Ireland and Scotland.
I myself live in the USA and have never fully considered myself an "American". That may sound harsh but I won't apologise for it. I do not feel like this country is my true home and I never have.
The Claddagh Ring is a long standing tradition in the Irish culture. The heart represents love, the crown loyalty and the hands friendship. Your parents can present it to you or your significant other.
There are two ways to wear it:
Right Hand, Crown Facing Away From You Γ’β¬β Wearing your ring this way will show the world that you are looking for friendship. It will convey availability and interest in finding romantic love.
Left Hand, Crown Facing Towards You Γ’β¬β If you are married, wearing your Claddagh ring with the crown facing towards you, on your left, hand, will show the world that you are in a permanent relationship. It will serve as a visual clue that you are married and unavailable.
My first and only Claddagh was presented to me by my parents and has not been turned inward by anyone. I'm hoping one day that changes as it does mean a lot to me to have that part of my Irish heritage displayed.
It may not be a very fascinating read, I am half asleep at the moment. xD You can find out more here though if you'd like. :)
As for an item that represents something special to me I would have to go with .
I am an avid Whovian (Doctor Who fan) and this sow has helped me get through a lot of emotional, stressful times. It takes me to another time and place and helps me forget things for awhile and when I come back I am better off than I was before with a better outlook on things. :) So I hoard these things like you wouldn't believe. xD My UN is a reference to the TARDIS (he calls her Sexy) and it has become an integral part of my life. :)
And with that I bid you goodnight! ^_^

ooow I'm so excited for the wishlist item. =)
alrighty... my cultural item is
because my mother's side is from South Africa and my grandma would always tell me about kruger national park and all the lions. I've always wanted to go.
and if we're talking about sub cultures reminds me of my new family my (me and my fiance). Because we're prepers. lol
Happy 21st birthday. May you have many more. :)
My cultural item is the because I'm Chinese from my mom's Chinese. So we have things like the Chinese Zodiac. The Chinese Zodiac is a calender that follows the order of twelve animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. One animal equals one month, with all twelve representing one year. I also choose the Coin of the Dog, cause my zodiac is a dog.
I feel the same way about America, I live here and have lived here most of my life, but I don't think I'll ever consider myself American. I'm Israeli by birth and by heart and that is my home country. I may reside elsewhere and be fluent in english (moreso than hebrew because I was so young when I left) but I don't think I would ever call myself American (that's also why it hurts so much that they're in this horrible war and I hope things get resolved and it ends soon).
Also, I think the info you provided about the Claddagh is so cool! I myself am not Irish (at least I don't think so), but I visited Ireland last year for two weeks and it was amazing. I was at Waterford, Killarney and Dublin. Two weeks was not enough to take in such a beautiful place. I do hope to return and maybe get a chance to see more of beautiful Ireland, and other counties.
I think heritage is so important and I hope I'll be able to pass mine on to my future children. Even if they will be second generation immigrants (since they would probably be born in America or while I reside in America). I'm glad I learned a bit about yours. ^-^
thank you so much for the gift! We have Charter Cable and it has been out most of the night, and I was gone all day! Thank you very very much. I LOVE learning of other cultures, other countries, other religions, and other traditions!
Unlike some others here I identify as an American. My family went to great lengths to cross over to the US. My grandparents raised my parents, and they raised me to take pride in America, in working hard, working honest, and being a good person. My Great Grandpa came to the USA from Poland and my great Grandma came from Hungary on my mom's side. My Father's side it was also my great grand parents who came over, my great grandfather from Germany and my great grandmother from Ireland! They didn't give up their language, or traditions, but they went out of their way to learn all new ones too.
My mom and I (My grandparents are sadly all gone, and my biological father passed away unexpectedly as well so that leaves my mom and I "heritage" wise) Love things from Poland and Hungary and I love things also from Germany and Ireland.. that being said though we're Americans and were brought up as Americans. My grandfather (Who I called Dzia Dzia which is grandfather in polish) worked for Ford for almost 40 years, started as bottom rung mechanic and worked his way up to some position that had him travelling around the country. My grandma and my step grandma were country girls, farmer's daughters! The biggest "traditions" we still do have to do with cooking! My mom learned from her mom and grandma of course about hungarian goulash, hungarian nutrolls, hungarian kifli (OMG amazing cookies with jams, or nuts inside hmmmmm) polish swiss steak, and polish creamed cucumbers which I admit... I hate lol and countless other dishes :) Also... I frequently tie a "Babushka" on my Dog's head (much to her chagrin) if that counts! We also say a few words and phrases we picked up from them too.
Silly little note.. My mom's best friend is taking her on a dream trip to New York. My mom is taking my great grandfather's papers with her to Ellis island and that the part of the trip she is most excited about... to see our family names there. I know she's going to cry. I'm so happy for her.
Not a lot of specifically Polish or Hungarian items on site but I did find 3 Polish chickens lol here is one Also my family does have old gypsy roots and since purple is my favorite color
As for an item on the site that means a lot to me
These were the first two backgrounds I ever had and they were given to me by the very same person who brought me to Subeta! They remain two of my all time favorites even now. Aynjell knows that snow, rain, ice, and water are my favorite β€ and
Was the first CW I ever received and it was from a complete stranger who turned out to be an awesome person and friend. if she hadn't been so kind, and so welcoming I don't know if I would be here. A lot of communities that are sorta similar to Subeta just don't have the good people Subeta does.... Aynjell and Unsighted almost immediately followed by and against right after that took me under their wings in my first couple days and showed me the great people in this community!
I could seriously list every gift I've been given, they all mean so much to me! Also I am a HUGE fan of the german shepherd stuff, the tortie cat stuff, the black and white kitty stuff, marvel/mass effect/star wars/hunger games tribute items, and silver and galactic items! LOVE shiny items.
My Grandfathers Grave at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. His second wife( but still also my grandma) is buried with him there! Also kitty and puppy pics! (Man Face belongs to husband type creature)

While I reside in the U.S. on the California/Nevada border, culturally I'm Scottish, of the Clan Gunn. While there are lots of Scots themed items here, the item that I love is the "Great chieftain o the puddin' race!".
My grams used leftover mutton, tongue and heart in her recipe, as she didn't like the strong flavor of the lungs and liver. Every Burns night she'd make it and serve it with mashed turnips and potatoes (Neeps and tatties she called them)..., and a glass of highland scotch. Perhaps it was the Scotch that makes me remember the haggis so fondly.
OMYGOSH I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAW EXCEPT THANK YOU!!! β€οΈ I can't believe I won that one! There were so many posts ;w; But I'm happy! And that gif with the gift was so very appropriate xD
Anyways, I come from the great urban jungle known as Singapore! It's always summer here, you could almost say it's 'eternal summer' wink wink (Free! fans will know). We don't really have a 'culture' because we are extremely diverse in terms of race and religion. But one thing I know about us is that we have GREAT food and we LOVE to complain about EVERYTHING. 'Blame it on the government! Why is it so hot? Why is the queue so long? Why am I asking so many questions? It's so noisy! Our country is so small!' You name it xD It's easy for me to give examples because I complain a lot too. Could be good, could be bad. It all depends on how you view it.
Bubblegum. Why in the world bubblegum? Because this has been around for many years and it's funny: Bubblegum is banned in Singapore, but Malaysia, the country right above it, doesn't ban it. So when we want bubblegum we just drive over to Malaysia and eat it there. Sometimes we sneak it past the customs back home xD It works! Malaysia is like our 'brother' country. Although we are kind of exploiting them. Can't have bubblegum in Singapore? Go to Malaysia. Petrol prices too high in Singapore? Go to Malaysia. Need cheap pirated CDs? Malaysia. I'm talking about many illegal things here. I hope I don't get frozen by subeta's staff xD
Annnnndddd... ..cats. Because why the heck not. And because I love cats and many of the cat items on subeta are just ADORBS.
- I honestly don't care about my family or heritage much, because of personal reasons. I'm part Ecuadoran, and ceviche is food I've eaten before. It's okay... I don't like seafood though.
This item describes me well:
I have a massive sweet tooth and sweet heart. β€
Aw thanks for the mention hun. I read your whole story, so awesome!
- Happy birthday!! Hope it's a great one. ;)

Looking for
I hope I didn't offend you by saying I don't consider myself American. I do appreciate all that I have here in America and I'm grateful for my life here but to me I just don't feel like I am American. I am and will always be an Israeli who resides in America. And that's just how I feel. I don't think there is anything wrong with being American, I just love my home country more.
BTW your tortie is so cute (as is your dog and your other kitty)! When I get a cat I want a black cat, a calico or a tortie (but in reality I'd love any).
oh no, not in the least! I was just showing how different we all are :) We all come from different feelings, and angles. No offense was taken in the least, I enjoy reading your posts. Israel fascinates me and always will. My husband and I keep close tabs on the situation over there, breaks both our hearts. (He is a Veteran of our Air Force)
Black cats are awesome and have a hard time getting homes! Also torties/calicos are VERY distinct, they have "tortitude" or "catitude" simply amazing.. they are divas each one of them lol.
Yeah, I definitely am a black cat fan and I would love to rescue one. When I finally adopt a cat I want it to be a rescue because there are so many poor abandoned pets out there and I want to provide it with a good home. I would love to adopt a kitten but I probably will adopt an adult or one who needs more loving because everyone adopts kittens.
Because he was born and raised in Argentina, just like me. :)

MMMMHMMM... I love architecture.. I'm the kind of person that will walk into a building and tell you what I like and don't like about it :P Whether you care or not! XD
One of the most beautiful buildings I've been in is the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. Looking up at the entrance was absolutely amazing! I also love the Sagrada familia in Barcelona and the Notre Dame Du Haut Chapel in Ronchamp - curvyyyy :P

XD XD I love it!! Whoever did that is genius.
The Hunderwasser House in Germany. ItΓΒ΄s a special facility where parents of children who suffer with cancer can stay when they are treated in a special childrens hospital, itΓΒ΄s a house of hope and peace: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4c/Hundertwasserhaus-Essen.jpg

Hahahha! IKR! I laughed. :X
But onto architecture!
I'd have to say the CN Tower. It's in the city where I live. :)
It has a glass floor and you can also do the CN tower walk which is where they harness you and you walk around the tower itself! Pretty cool! :)

I really like to observe everything, and one of the buildings that impressed me was the Empire State Building at New York. It's so high, and the view is so amazing! Also, Santos Dumont's House at Rio de Janeiro. Everything there is mad, and he was really very creative. Here's a pic of the stairway in his house:
The steps are like this so whoever come down does not knock the calf in the previous step XD
Edit: Also, this one at Punta Del Este at Uruguay:
It's Casa Pueblo, and is a giant sculpture. A part of it is used as hotel, and the other is the house of the creator :)
Cleared by staff. Width may not exceed 450 pixels.
