Oh SNAP, Pareidolia is a great name! Such a cool word (that I never knew existed). And so is Mistral! Again, have never heard the word before and think it's a great name and super unique! I really love this kind of name - a word with meaning that sounds like a unique name (but not "who the heck names their kid Pilot Inspektor" unique lol).

I think that idea for Dolia is such a good fit, you could do a lot of cool things with it. Haha I love Mistral's character too, what a fun take.

Oh, I pronounce Caquex's name like... 'Kah-kweks'. I've always wondered what the inspiration might have been behind his name, if there was any... Gotta love random pound grabs, especially from a site like Neopets where it's next to impossible to find 'normal' names!

1. Tell us all about some of your newer pets! Hmm, so, technically my newest pet is still

Morgan in that they are the most recently created/adopted!

But I have been beginning to redo some of my pets that were going nowhere, and those few pets feel 'newer'! The most recent change I made is [pet not found]. I changed a pet that I had not done anything with in... I'd say seven years or so?

I also... changed one of my pets into a cringe fanpet... [pet not found]. I'll probably give up on him after a while (I have never been successful with fanpets, I can never seem to complete them) but pfffb I'm just having fun for now, alright...

2. Did you adopt them? If so, what drew you to them? / Did you create them? If so, what gave you the idea? I created Morgan because there was nothing in the pound to adopt, ahaha. I believe I created the other two as well, although that was a really long time go!

My main inspiration for creating Morgan was 'I want to fill this pet slot that I got 5 seconds ago', because I need to always be full on pet slots. My secondary reason was that I wanted another agender pet since I'd like to make more nonbinary characters!

I don't really care about legacy names or IDs, and I'm not too concerned about potions and such since I have 1bil sP, so I don't tend to try adopting from people much. Applying for pets always made me really stressed out and insecure, ahaha, so I'm really glad I have no reason to anymore. ;;

3. Do you have plans for this pet? Character designs, story ideas, TC shaping up, profile plans - get excited with us, let us cheer you on! Morgan - Still not quite sure what exactly I'm going to do with them, but I do have the basics of a character role (they're the character with the obligatory tinkerer role in my post-apocalyptic setting.) Nothing yet for design, I need to get back to figuring out more of the vibe of that setting and its characters.

Currently they are using a template I was in the mood to fiddle with (I may put up the uncustomized version as a freebie but I dunno, it's pretty simple.) I'm pretty obsessed with scrolling pet profiles right now and I haven't decided on what I really want to do for a template for characters in this setting yet, so not sure on final profile ideas yet!

I'm still debating on what to make them in terms of species/color. I think steamwork makes the most sense, but there are only two steamwork pets I would consider owning (the hipottu and telenine) and I am not sure what one I prefer... I think I like the telenine better but part of me really wants another hipottu... favorite species bias rears its ugly head...

Valentine - I've wanted to make a succubus girl for a while... I really adore the design of the hot pink succubus character from Helluva Boss and I've been wanting to make my own demon girl with heart motifs in her design. I may end up changing her name (I kinda impulsively named her Valentine but I thiiink I might do a name swap with my blank pet Kandi when I'm able to) but I'm happy overall that I made her.

I started working on her last night and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much progress I made (especially her TC! Like, okay, the items are all pretty straightforward and a lot of them came from one place, but it's still like... 75 items haha.) The template is brand new and I'm relatively happy with it, too. :3c

I haven't actually drawn her up yet but she's gonna be a cute chubby succubus girl. (She really likes sweets! :') ) It's been a while since I made a character based solely off wanting to make a certain design so I'm pretty excited. I'm just not sure if I want her to be pink or if she should have a human skin tone. I want more colorful characters but I also don't want to copy too much, hahaha.

Stolas - MY BELOVED GAY BABY FANPET... I will probably give up on the fanpet bullshit eventually and change him, but for now I am having fun with his TC. I'd like to find more botany-related items (esp anything related to carnivorous plants), books, astronomy-related things... maybe more items related to trashy romance...

I put up a personal (or, more accurately, personal-but-also-shared-with-Soren) template for him so that I could test out a gallery section, and instead of taking it down once, I ended up having fun customizing it. :') I love this stupid gay owl so much.

Oh yeah, it's been a long time since I was on Neo but wow do I remember the name struggle lol. I thought I was gonna really dislike NUNs here, but with the addition of the legacy names I've found it to be a really great approach!

This is so real! I have pets I've had for ages that suddenly clicked with a totally new idea and their character is "newer" even if they technically aren't! I just completed Chemukh who (along with Kamots who is represented in her story) feels like my oldest and newest character now lol.

Hahaha this is so relatable. And that's really cool! I just realized I pay zero attention to the site gender of my pets, I have no idea if the characters I have for some pets lines up with their site genders :o

Hahaha I just had 500m for the first time ever and was like "this is so nice" then promptly spent all of it and my CSC on pet slots xD xD But I guess that gives me fresh motivation to keep up with my quests and what not! You seem so excited about him, fanpets are hard but maybe he'll be the one who helps you find the approach that you love?! I think Nev is my only true "fanpet" in the sense that she is the character (Olivia Benson). Everyone else is an OC or is a "tribute" (Like Kamots or Booped). What a cool name! There are lots of different directions a story could go starting from the work "bicker". It's also a totally realistic sci-fi name imo, so the story could be unrelated to the word and still make lots of sense! I really like your idea of them being a twin to Jubilations (another great name!) and when you combine that idea with space and dark matter I feel like there's a lot of possibility! I like how open the options are for him and am excited to see what you do with them!

Recently (thanks to this group) I felt inspired to have some Subeta OCs! Chemukh is a beloved tribute to Subeta and her story is about her, Kamots, and me. Looseleaf and Wholebean are going to be a detailed pair of OCs and in thinking about their story more last night I think now Gettysburg is also going to be a Subeta OC lol. I can't believe I slept on writing stories for the world of Subeta for so long! It's such a fresh well of inspiration and creativity and love! I'm totally getting inspired by other Subeta OC pets <3

I'm not huge on the DM color as a whole either, but there are a few that have great poses and expressions! I often give the DM telenine consideration! He's on my "short list" but does keep getting bumped lol.

haha i think... you're probably right about the universe beaming that name into my brain. i feel violated, yet oddly elated. my account is so old, but i've only recently fell back into subeta and actually learned code to make pet pages like i always wanted to as a teenager. haha it's nice to have the power now to do this kinda thing.

I wish there was a "history" page where we could see all the pets we've ever had - their in and out of our lives, when, how, name changes, name swaps, etc. Maybe it's the "Subeta elder" in me feeling nostalgic and looking with a fresh awareness of how much time has passed, wishing I had more details about my journey the same way I do about life.

1. As far as memorable journeys go, I have a few that stick out in my mind!

• Kamots and Chemukh didn't necessarily have a "journey" coming to me, but are my first two pets and are very dear to me. They did have a "full circle" journey character / story wise though!
• Stelios is a special journey. I created the original Stelios in 2008, adopted him out, and regretted it deeply. I stalked the name for a long, long time before the account that had him went inactive in 2016. I immediately "remade" Stelios and have had him ever since. While it would have been nice to get the original pet back, I'm happy having my boy as is.
• Two recent pets that have a unique journey of sorts are Wallie and Teelo, who were gifted adoptions from my friend Soren. I've always done the apply, cross your fingers, be anxious route of adopting pets. Soren was so sweet and offered some LNs to friends who have special attachment to LNs and seek them out. I'm still working on both pets but have plans for both that I'm very solid on and attached to.
• Amalea was a luck find who I was chosen to adopt! I have a character group of four pets who are all linked. I originally adopted Feyne just because I liked his name. I had no idea what to do with him and he sat for a while. Then Mirio came along and I was like "oh, I like this name and it's a good match for Feyne boy!" so the initial idea of some kind of pair / group was born. I added Kotori and was going to stick with the trio but found myself really wanting a set of four because I had another character idea that would match the then shaping out cast of characters and I wanted to have the two celinoxes and the two keetos and I was totally not okay with having two and one lol. But that meant finding a name that (1) fit the name scheme with the letter "a" or "u", (2) fit the character, (3) was LN. I couldn't believe my luck in finding her name and being chosen for her!

2. I guess I clearly tend to adopt pets lol. I think a lot of it started because we had unique names, and I would struggle to find a name I liked that was available. (Back then I was also very into RWs for a long time). I also wasn't great at sitting down and coming up with characters or stories, I tended to need to find a name I clicked with and got inspiration from. That being said, I'm torn these days as I look forward because I have all LNs and kinda want to keep that going, but I also don't want to limit my options or refuse to create my own new pets. I actually had a dream two nights ago that I created a new pet on Subeta, LOLOL. So maybe come my next anniversary I'll spring for an additional slot and create some brand spanking new kiddos. Who knows!

Peaks Is one of the latest pet I created. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them exactly. Some sort of cryptid, a tribute to weird slightly uncanny things inspired by Twin Peaks and mountains cryptids legends. I just wanted an excuse to make a pretty TC really.

Redonda currently has an empty profile cause I've been lazy, but I created him a few weeks back as well. He's the third dragon in my tropical guardians trio. Cast away by the other two guardian, Redonda rules over the deep oceaon. He always has the power to bring destruction to the atoll by triggering the volcano at the center of the main island. I have some notes and a design for him too, just didn't put them up on his profile yet

Galaxy Is a LN pet I've had for a little while, I just never really had any ideas for them. Inspiration struck a few weeks ago, and they're now a fake prophet space dragon. They pretend to be Pollack, the one being prophecies said would end the universe as we know it. They're basically 'opposite Pollack', they wear a fake mask meant to imitate a masked being, and their colors are basically

The idea for Redonda came from a chat with that said one of my unused design reminded her of a deep sea creature! It was the perfect match to my other two tropical dragons.

Galaxy is a LN name I got from a while back, and I hadn't though of a good concept. Sometimes there's names like that that just take years to reach their full potential!

week 16

1. Tell us about your pets history! Do some have some pets with especially special or memorable journeys? When I first got into pets, I was really into making fan pets! Fan pets where my introduction to making profiles and getting overlays etc. I had a fan pet for Captain Kirk for many years ahah. I used to make fanpets for RL actors too when I was 16. Oh how have time changed ahahah.

As far as my current pets goes, I some of my my most memorable journeys are with the pets I got in big name clearings. As much as I hated them, I sorta liked them for the thrill? The site would always crash, and losing that one name you had stalked for years was the worst feeling. But getting friends to help you get that one special name was just priceless. So many friends and fellow pet groups members have helped me, and that feeling of community was great?

I've already told the story of how special things where when I adopted Audrey all these years back, my one 'holy grail' name. She went from a fully fleshed character to... a selfie pet ahah. Someday, she will 500 bad taxidermy fox in her TC and my longest Subeta goal will be completed.

2. Do you tend to create pets, apply to adopt, surf the pound, or a combination? Do you have any strong feelings one way or another? Usually a combinaison. Before non-unique names I would spend hours looking up obscure names that were free, and I had a list of names I would look at several times a year just to see if they would clear. These days I create pets when I have inspiration, and I stalk the adoption sub-forum for any names I might be interested in that might go UFA.

I do have a slight preference for adopting Legacy names, but I'm perfectly ok with creating pets too. I haven't added a lot of pets to my family the past few years, mostly because I have so many OCs I need to work on already, and many names that I haven't really done anything with. I used to really be into adoptables back in like 2013-2015, and I would also create a lot of pets for my new designs. I don't have the energy or money for adoptables anymore, and all my designs are for the most part my ideas brought to life by artists.

I'm always on the lookout for some nice space themed LN, and I'm sure I'll have ideas for new pets soon :)

3. Are you like me and you have to actually dig back through things to remember some of the past? I loveee looking at the past (said the user with UN Past)

Peaks' TC is gorgeous and gives such inspiration! I can't wait to see what you end up doing with them, you're so great at creating character designs! I love Redonda's art, so excited that you found a way to use the design that you feel excited about! I have a soft spot for trickster characters and love what you did with Galaxy!

Oh the memories of middle school / early high school, the renaissance of emo, the actors / musicians and characters we all obsessed over hahaha. Oh gosh, I'm just realizing that if 7 year old me had Subeta I probably would have had like a Backstreet Boys fan pet or something bahaha. True story that I had a neopet named after my crush when I was 14 or 15 xD

It was such a double-edged sword and took so much patience. The thrill and elation when it worked out was so great, but like you said missing out on the name after stalking it for years felt awful. Part of me wishes I had been an active part of the community then (versus being a wallflower) but I also imagine it must be a bit sad sometimes missing what once was. I hope Subeta gets a second wind and the community grows and becomes more active again. I'm so thankful for this little group and the lovely folks I've met and get to chat with because of it. <3

My Week 17: 1. Recent Pet Progress? I've had a lot of stories starting to shape in my brain, but haven't sat down and written them. -.-' I really need to. But, I have been working on some other things!

• Focused on some TCs! Fellarka's is done, Attenborough.'s is done, Looseleaf and Wholebean are WIPs / almost done!

I had 4 pets who I adopted with them already at lv8, but everyone else was lv1 or had a different job. Now everyone is lv1 of their job, Kamots and Gwin are lv3, and Matsi is lv2! I've been gradually making a good amount of progress with training level and strength and increasing intelligence to get everyone to the next level. It's kinda a pain but also kinda nice to have another goal in a totally different area, and it's making me use parts of the site I didn't really use much before! I added a tracker to my pet progress sheet if anyone needs one!

When I try to make the story scroll so it fits within the box, the pet image disappears. I've tried making the story its own div, and I've tried setting individual div overflow but so far no luck. Any ideas? Figured it out!

3. How's Life IRL? IRL I'm ... I don't know for sure. As part of my job, I do lodge&learns (think dog board and train type) at my home. I do a lot of work with shelters and rescues at discounted rates. Because of this and my inability to say "no" even when I should and when everyone would understand, I have technically worked every day this year thus far. In addition, what's being asked of me in my partnership with a local humane society is more than I expected to be taking on, and it's been overwhelming. I burned out and rallied several times, then something just "broke". I still have lodge and learn dogs, but I've had to cancel all my out-of-house lessons for the past week. I've been struggling with the heat (first summer on my current med combo) and have been having a reoccurrence of pain with some organs in my abdomen and with my back (I had back surgery a year and a half ago and am totally at fault here because I did not do keep up with my pt). So on one hand, I've been smushing down a lot of feelings and needs and thoughts this year until it kinda broke me and I'm still dealing with pain daily and with waves of everything starting to come out, but it's also good that I finally said "I need to stop" and started creating space for healing. I feel like I'm "waking up" for the first time in a long time and damn it feels so relieving. It's a good time to think about how to make healing sustainable / sustained instead of repeating the cycle. Also my hubby had a great interview with a new job and oh my gosh do we need him to get it, so please say your prayers / send your good vibes for us!

I need some help on expanding the description for a pet I recently set up

I decided to revamp a pet I had to represent the toxic jungle/{ Sea of Decay } from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

I'm trying to figure out what to expand upon here. Should I talk about the history of the toxic jungle? Maybe the forest people(from the manga)? I'm not really sure. Any suggestions not only on what to expand upon but how i.e. what should the writing sound like?

If you wanted the pet to be more "informative" you could write different sections like (1) the history of the toxic jungle, (2) the forest people, (3) creatures of the toxic jungle, (4) Nausicaa's plants and the hope for the future?

The "tone" could maybe be like a historian or an explorer who is documenting the toxic jungle?

The main thing I have to celebrate rn is 10 years on Subeta! I've been checking my dashboard like every hour, and it JUST turned over! yaaaay

Recent pet progress? None, I'm afraid -_-; tbh I've been really discouraged that after having several pets nominated for months, I haven't gotten any spotlight wins. From the news post, it sounds like staff hasn't been reviewing nominations recently, although I've seen at least one pet win within like a couple weeks of being nominated, so I guess they've just randomly reviewed some. So anyway, I'm trying to be patient, but it's not helping my motivation to finish any pets since they might just sit in the queue for months to come.

Feeling "stuck" and unmotivated? Looking for some ideas when it comes to a story or TC? I've got ideas, I just need a kick in the pants to make me work on them 😂 In some cases, I just lack stories to finish the profiles, but in others, I've got the story but need to make myself sit down and design the profile. What I need to do is make myself work on a profile every day, even if it's just for 10 minutes.

Additionally, feel free to drop a "real world" update! How are you doing?! Anything we can celebrate or support you in when it comes to the real world? It's not exactly the real world, but I've been really active in the b3313 (Super Mario hack) discord and community lately, and it's a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it's part of what's absorbing all my time and attention, so that I'm not working on my pets ^^; But I've made some good friends and it's sort of breathed some new life into me, having people to share a hyperfixation with for the first time in a long time.

also I'm experiencing romantic feelings for the first time in years and even though I'm being a silly goose over a crush, it's still fun to feel those things again lol

I think I've had 11 pets nominated and 2 have won so far this year. Which, as long as they're being reviewed in a timely manner so it comes down to chance (depending on how many pets are currently in the spotlight queue) but it was discouraging to see that pets weren't even being reviewed and moved to the spotlight queue for an uncertain amount of time. It makes sense to slow down or pause briefly if the queue is super packed so that some of the folks who have been waiting are sure to get a win, but you being so discouraged is a perfect example of why not reviewing submissions in a timely manner is unfair / harmful to the community.

I wish there was a feedback system that told you when your pet moved "forward" from "needs review" to "in spotlight queue"; when they are reviewed we either get feedback with a "rejection" or we get a notification that says "Pet has moved to the spotlight queue".

I asked on the news post and discord about potential of community help or part-time with a non-real world currency option of payment and got zero response which was disappointing. Even a "no we can't and this is why" would have been appreciated as it's obviously something we care about.

Especially after the news post, but honestly even before, I stopped feeling like I cared so much about the spotlight. It still matters to me of course, but I think me personally feeling like a pet was completed / them being nominated became my goal. The spotlight is out of my hands with the uncertainty of review time and element of chance with the actual win - but getting them nominated means I have a complete pet / character with writing, profile, TC, etc I'm proud of. I still want my site wins though lol. But I think that's what keeps me motivated now - feeling like the goal is nomination and the spotlight is a second goal that's eventual but out of my control.

Hahaha I feel this! I have like three or four stories that have started shaping in my head but I haven't been willing to sit down and work on them. At least I'm channeling the productivity in other ways but I really need to just sit down and get the words out before they're gone back to the abyss lol.

This makes me so happy for you. I know what this kind of "change" can feel like - how much of a difference it can make to your daily happiness and the way you feel just waking up! Of course you're missed around here when you're away, but it's 100% worth it and necessary to allocate your time to what brings you the most joy! Life is short.

Made some progress with a profile or TC? uhhhHHHHH I haven't really done much of anything on Subeta the last couple of weeks due to (reasons), but I have kept up with Aran's training. She finally reached 1000 in every stat a couple of days ago!!

The video game I'm making, Strataversal, has been developed to a point where I'm about to contact investors in the hopes that they'll fund the next two years of development. I cannot begin to stress how absolutely life-changing it would be to receive funding - I'd be able to drop my hours at my retail job and work on Strataversal full-time instead, which is what I've wanted for a long time. In order to impress investors, I'm putting together a pitch deck that needs to be absolutely perfect, so... I've really not had any time to work on Subeta. In my mind, any time that I COULD spend on Subeta should actually be spent on my video game. Therefore, I'm not really stuck or unmotivated, I just feel like I can't afford to "waste" time on Subeta when that time could be spent elsewhere, you know?

Anyway. One day I'll work on my pets. It'll probably be after I release my video game, which I'm hoping to do in Q4 2026. So, uh, it'll be a while before you see any real progress from me, sorry.

Week 16

1. Tell us about your pets history! Do some have some pets with especially special or memorable journeys?

Tauren is my special boy. I've probably mentioned he was the first pet I used CSC for a name change.

Skreev (whose name used to be Noti) is probably the one who has gone through the most "revisions" over the years. He used to be a she and had a totally different character. I must've re-wrote that story 3-4 times, thought I was happy with it, then realized there were only like 5 items I could put in her TC. (Crayons were the theme I was going for and back when I created her, there just weren't that many items). I ultimately scrapped her old character and remade him into the sidekick for my main villain

Voorik instead.

2. Do you tend to create pets, apply to adopt, surf the pound, or a combination? Do you have any strong feelings one way or another?

I think

Attorney is my only adopted pet. The rest have all been created by me. Back before unique names, the fun was in finding something untaken that would fit my character idea but not be such a bad spelling that I would get tired of looking at the name, lol.

3. Are you like me and you have to actually dig back through things to remember some of the past?

Definitely. =D I like to look back at what Legacy names I have (at least for the pets who I've done a name change). I get all nostalgic when I remember some of my past characters who ultimately became someone else over time. The names I can remember who have changed are in the spoiler. (There are...a lot.)

Nobody recently but I did get Mango's story typed up. I need to do a final proof and then I can get it posted. Her profile and TC are pretty much done (just a little fine-tuning on colors) so I think I can have her Spotlight-ready by the end of July. That's the hope.

Less stuck, more unmotivated. I have a lot of ideas I'm excited about, it's just finding any time that isn't taken up by 879 other things I'm required to do/really should do before they are on fire. sigh

Real life has been...complicated for the last month. We've lost some staff and the caseload has pretty much doubled. I sent my husband a GIF of a dumpster on fire floating down a river...literally the best visual of my chosen field, LOL.

We had to put one of our dogs up for adoption in May but the dog we still have is thriving. (Honestly, I think Sonnet is better as a single dog. He certainly loves being the center of attention!)

We also got an unexpected cherry crop (we thought the trees would rest this year...nope!) so I'm going to spend most of this weekend harvesting tart cherries.
