Are we allowed to use fonts like Times New Roman in CWs, for example a word on a t-shirt? Or do we have to draw potential lettering ourselves?

@last_chance Text should be written out by hand. A LOT of fonts are actually not free for commercial use, or they have copyrights attached to them. Since there's literally thousands and thousands of fonts out there, it's best to avoid them all together!

Hi! Some time ago one of my items couldn't go through because it had an emoji on it's description, and today I saw some new items with emojis in their descriptions. Did that rule change? I'd love to use them~

Yes! It's funny you asked this, I was going to write a post about it, haha! I checked with and it sounds like emojis are actually fine to use in CW descriptions :) as an FYI!

Are we allowed to use real places in descriptions in CWS like for example Belize or China or do we have to use fictitious names?

Hi, I've read this thread and the replies several times, and I haven't really seen any more discussion about this. It's really the one topic I'm hung up on and the only thing keeping me from making anything atm, so I just wanna make sure I understand it properly.

If I wished to have a foreign language in an item's name, it would have to be, for example: "Cheval au Chocolat hair", not "Cheval au Chocolat cheveux" yes? Or would it have to be changed if it's not a saying adopted by the English language, eg. Deja vu?

What if, for example, the item I plan to make is a tribute item for a , let's say, French property, and I want the name to reflect that? Would it still have to be changed to be English? Thank you!

I'm sorry I missed this -- my name is Jessi without the e, so I didn't get the ping ;) You CAN, but we prefer you don't!

I really can't answer your specific question without seeing the item in question (in the queue; we don't give any sort of pre approval via forums or tickets). It really, really depends on the individual situation. It's good to know that a LOT of specific buildings/properties with specific names are copyright, so you need to keep that in mind.

I am so sorry about misspelling you name! It was a complete typo. I just filed a ticket on a submission, I did not know if I could ask here or not?

If it is a specific question regarding a specific CW, ticket is better. If it is a question that you think will be good for general knowledge, post it here :)

Would a CW of the red dress be a submitted as Full-Body Outfits (ballgowns, kimonos, costume?

that does make sense, it would really be much clearer in context, thank you!

But now I have another curiosity!! I noticed cw items that change the position of the arms and how the default legs look, and now my biggest question is just how much of a change are we allowed to make when creating an item like that?

Would we for example, be allowed to create an item that makes it look as if your avatar is looking over their shoulder with their back turned towards the 'camera?' Or a set of legs that make it seem as if they're floating?

It's more of a curiosity more than anything, but still useful to keep in mind when making something, what would you think would be the ultimate threshold for position changes? Thank you!

I see the item in reference in the queue, so I'll address it there. For what it's worth - please don't ask questions AND put the item in the queue at the same time! If you have questions that you want answered before submission, it's best to be patient. It can help save time for all parties :)

We've already had some items that involve making the legs floating. For the head thing, again, we'd have to see it in the queue to determine.

Help

Hey, so this is a weird one. I spend a lot of time in the directory and I find a TON of items that are older, and beautiful and maybe just somehow didn't get enough attention when they were uploaded. I'd like to create a thread and highlight a few items a week to try and drive traffic to sell these items I find lonely and unsold in the directory. Ideally it'd be something called "Holy shit that exists" and have a ping group. After looking through the rules, I'm not exactly sure where something like that might belong.

It technically is sales but it's not my sales, I just wanna stimulate the economy and see people use some cool stuff that never got a chance. Anyway, if I wanted to do something like that would I be allowed to post it as a "shop" here?

I think that's a lovely idea! I think you should post it in the discussion forum here, since it's not YOUR sales and it's more to point out older items and the like!

I was wondering if the 'recolors' page is still eventually planned to be brought back? (The page where you'd see your item on the left and then all it's existing recolors on the right?) Or should I make a suggestion thread requesting it again? (Sorry to be a bug about it, but it's been a year, and it was one of the pages I used very frequently to plan submissions x'D I'm... struggling without it a bit.)

Seconding this question.

It really made it easy to see what I'd done and hadn't done so far for an item and what items had little/no recolors so I could focus on trying to get some of those made before I went in for recolor 394023480 on a particular item haha.

I know we have the directory but it doesn't work the same for me, the recolor page was nice and compact and let me easily navigate and see what was what.

[edit]

Hi hi, weird question time. A billion years ago, at the start of CWs when everything was 5k to submit, a lot of us said things like "I won't be recoloring this anymore" or things along those lines. Would it be scamming to then come out with new recolors now that it's more affordable to submit the items.

I am not asking if we can release new copies previously "retired"/limited items, but if it is against the rules to make new recolors of older items if we had said we wouldn't be releasing more colors.

Back at the time, I think a lot of folks said they wouldn't be doing more of X items because it was the only way to get folks to stop asking for recolors on stuff that was 5000 csc to submit and didn't realize we'd move to such a nice, robust new system. I'm hoping we can get some clarity on this and be sure (one way or the other) if this is allowed or scamming :)

re: the recolor page -- I honestly forgot this was even a thing. I don't suppose anyone has screenshots of it from back in the day? I can't even remember what it looked like.

To reaper re: recolors: If you stated flat out that there would be no more recolors of this item, then yes, it will be considered scamming to now say "nevermind, have new recolors". Obviously the system has changed a LOT since this was an issue, but it's still something we need to abide by for fairness (some people may not have bought a CW if they knew there'd be other recolors, that sort of thing)

Okay thank you for the clarity on how recolors fit into that! I thought that was the case but wanted to be sure :)

ALSO! It's everyone's lucky day because I still have screenshots from when I maintained the guide to CWs so there are 2 for the recolor page and 2 for the retirement page that doesn't exist anymore either lol (altho since there's a filter by retired option we maybe don't need that back):

This is a link to all the screenshots

But also here are the two relevant ones (click to enlarge):

A secondary question from what just asked:

I've said once before "I have no plans of doing any more recolors for this item." Does that lock me into not doing recolors now? I know I didn't mean that as a "never again" but I'm worried people might think I meant it that way idk

It's such a grey area, unfortunately :( Like in my personal opinion that isn't a hard no but I have a feeling other people wouldn't necessarily agree with me. I don't know if it's necessarily worth doing recolors on items that you've stated that on!
