expensive is good. the undervaluation of the arts is dangerous and harmful to society, IMO. i think it's funny right now, the first thing to be cut from schools or any budget is always the liberal arts. meanwhile, we're all at home watching Netflix and youtube, reading, playing video games, looking at art...
I'm looking for a job RN and the pay is fucking abysmal compared to engineering jobs. I'm thinking of going back to school or taking online classes for certification. in an ideal world, i'd love to do art and work for myself and a bunch of odd jobs. but alas, health care is attached to a 9-5 job.
most translators i know are professors or teachers, yeah. there's definitely money to be made in the field, but it's all technical stuff. same for writing, except technical writing is even worse because you have to know SO much about the actual technology. I've seen some job listings and you need to be proficient in several coding languages, understand the technology, and be able to communicate that and write manuals about it. like wtf lol.

The experience I loved the most was during one of the Snowball Wars. I was on Team Nature and there was a lot of mudslinging at one point. We ended up befriending people on Team Blake towards the end of the event and they invited us to their Shark Tank board. I have met a lot of nice players since plunging into that board and it's really enhanced my experience on here. Prior to that I mostly kept to myself. I still get shy on occasion, but the people on the board are some of the best people I have had the pleasure of interacting with.

I'll start with my meaningful experiences: Although there are many, I'd like to share two bigger ones with you: -I'm Autistic high functioning (aka Aspie) and I was encouraged to come here by another Aspie. We had been on Neo for over a decade... it took me a few more years before I got the courage to try something new; however, I'm thankful that I did. It's not always easy to be an Aspie and finding an inclusive community like Subeta is a blessing. Recently, the wheel of fortune came full circle whereby I was able to help someone on here realize that she's most likely an Aspie. Women often tend to be misdiagnosed because we tend to camouflage/mask. It can cause havoc in our lives and sometimes it can create an intense sense of isolation due to feeling that no one understands and that we're completely alone. I reached out to her and she's now on a road of getting support. I'm glad to have helped encourage her to discover that's she's wonderful just as she is and that she doesn't have to feel alone anymore. Countries apart, we can still make a difference and Subeta made it possible. -A few years ago, the one that used to do Empty Trees & a Secret Santa on a forum I was on was no longer was able to. A Subeta friend that has severe health problems was really disappointed nothing was happening... she usually made an extra effort to be on during Lumi... so I winded up doing both. I wasn't just doing it for her... but she was my muse. People started to jump in and help and we were able to have both events. So many people being kind and thankful for others showing that they care and bringing spirits up was really heartwarming. Last year, I wasn't able to do as much; however, I managed to keep the tradition going and others also pitched in. I really love that this community tries to make a positive impact on people's lives.

As for meaningful memories... I'm still a relatively new user, and haven't had major impactful events. However, my experience with the userbase here has been wonderful - I don't think I've seen anyone be anything other than friendly, many people are perfectly willing to friend and chat with a stranger, and many, many people are incredibly generous with both giveaways and gifts. Usually I'm a complete lurker on the internet, but here I post and chat quite freely. This is genuinely encouraging me to be more social.

What’s the point of games if not to spend time in a way that bring us happiness? If large TC’s is your thing, you do you. Gifting is one way to be social. Most of my “social” time on here started and ended at giving people things or participating in giveaways. Tbh, this is the most online-social I’ve ever been. Unfortunately, I suspect undervaluation isn’t limited to art but extended to education and labor in general. But the cause you identify is why many people in the arts are considering career changes in the U.S. right now (which I believe is where you are, based on the comment about healthcare being attached with a 9-5). School helps you pivot if you can afford it. There are ways to reduce the cost by working a job that supplements education, or working for a university so they discount courses, but you’re always paying for these with your time and work. Job search is challenging in its own way. In my experience, resume/skills/education matters, but so does who you know. Whatever path you choose will be challenging, and I wish you the best in either case. Hahahaha, the good thing is, the more you know, and the more the company needs you to know, the less replaceable you are. Irreplaceability gives you negotiating power to command higher prices for your service, so that may be the way to go ;)

Something that was meaningful for me which many people probably didn't realize was when I won my first pet spotlight. I didn't pay for beautiful art. I didn't have any coding skills. I just went online and tried to learn what I needed just to make my pet profiles look OK. I designed them so I wouldn't need art, but it was still on the plainer side. I wrote and rewrote and rewrote the pet stories and obsessed over the TC items. I held the first few back for years because I was so nervous to make the 'nominate for pet spotlight' link live. Eventually I did and it took awhile to get nominated. Of course, it was rejected. I was devastated but kept trying, waited forever to get re-nominated and got rejected again. Cue the loop. I was terrified to post on the forums and ask for help. I had seen some of the things the pet-side of the community posted on the forums about other users. They had high standards and didn't appreciate users who weren't 1000%. Then, one day I won pet spotlight. I had the first panic attack because of that shock. Then, I had the second hen I realized that meant people were actually looking at my pet profile. I cringed and half-closed my eyes as I opened the comments. Every single comment was positive. Everyone who posted glossed over my beginner coding skills, lack of mega art pieces, etc. and focused on being positive and congratulatory. This motivated me to keep going. To make more pets, to learn more coding to make better profiles, and to engage on the pet forum boards. It blew open a whole new side to Subeta for me and eventually a whole new friend group.
Let's see. Memories on Subeta. Each day is a lovely memory here for me. I live each day as if it is my last, and having my friends here on Subeta makes that so easy.
I have friends like who always make me laugh, and friends like , who let me ramble, and teach. Friends like who have such wonderful CW ideas, and readily shares them with everyone. Friends like , , and , who might not be here every day, but when they are here, they always ask how my day is going. Those are the types of memories I have on Subeta. Daily memories, and friends who are always ready to share their love and friendship.

One of my favorite holidays in rl and here on subeta is Christmas/Luminaire and some of my best memories revolve around the giving spirit that is always present during the holidays. Another memory, or memories, which I hold dear would be rp games on the site. I've been a member of the Wayward Squirrel adventures several times and been a proud Slytherin for quite a few terms on Wizarding. I love not only the chance to write and create stories for and with others, but also the friendships that have begun because of both these groups is amazing. Even if we don't talk every day any more I know that whenever I message one of 'our crew' I would receive a caring response and we would chat as if no time at all has passed.

it’s been almost a year since i joined! ever since i first started the group have helped me alot and the people there are so kind and lovely. thank you guys:) my first pet was jazperr, who was a common ruffle who i still cherish heaps. subeta has helped me a lot through rough times, and now almost ending my senior year in high school, it sometimes gets busy, but whenever i come online, i always come into a world of happiness, where i can be myself, relax and be surrounded by amazing people.

Subeta has given me many experiences over the years I have been here but I will try to think of one. I think the most memorable moment for me would be when my pet Blocker won his spotlight. I know it sounds selfish but I am very proud of this character, he has been with me since the beginning and his character has changed only once. I have a big problem of not finishing something once I start it, or giving up when it gets hard so this character is a testament to the fact that I can stick with something and build off of it. I actually have a whole world full of characters now that Blocker inspired.

You have a point- making TCs and digging for neat items is my happy place- To me, the pets are my big draw. Cws are kinda scary to begin with and they helped ease that burden. Now I am working with three artists trying to get new items on site and to help others get interested in cws the way these two got me interested.

Very cool! I think the CW market is something I would have gotten into, had I decided to stay longer on the site. I find the process of commissioning artists and designing objects super interesting. But it also seems complex and intensive, both in terms of time and financial resources needed to enter the market. I haven’t worked with Ambition, but Disasters is one of my friends and I’ve gotten so many CW’s from her giveaways. She is so supportive, and I’m so glad you had both their help entering the market.
