These are the items I would like from most to least: (shop1) (shop 1) (s1) (shop 3) (s3) (s3) (s1) (s3) (s2) (s2)

Experience: I'll never forget my very first Luminaire on Subeta. Saving up to buy gifts, then checking peoples' wishlists to find the perfect gift to leave under their tree, and most of all, witnessing the kindness and generosity of the Subeta community. I fell in love with the holiday because I was actually able to buy gifts for people that they would love and appreciate and the cost would be no problem, which I don't get to do in real life. Opening my tree on the 25th was also amazing since I never expected people to be so thoughtful and generous with my own gifts. Seeing all that on my 1st year on Subeta made me really love the community and lucky to be a part of it.

Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway, though I'm sad to see you go. I wish you the very best in life and hope that you take care of yourself out there ❤

Hey Solaris! Thanks for hosting this. It's sad to se another user go, but I'm glad to hear that real life has more exciting adventures to you now and that Subeta was part of that! Well, here are my wl items, in order:

here's my story: Subeta is a safe space for me on the internet, I came from playing Neopets which was pretty competitive and made me stress constantly over stuff that was retired to a petsite with a much nicer community and a better pace (and LOTS of pretty graphics and cute things for me to hoard). But I think my fondest memory was one of Reiko's luminaire giveaways (2018? 2017?) when I won one of her CWs (, which is the most precious thing that I own on this site). My self-esteem was always crappy due to the years in school and I always had this thought about being an 'unlucky' person, somene who couldn't be eligible for nice things. When the giveaway ended I just couldn't believe it! It was something that made me feel really special and dissolved a little bit of this negative belief about myself. Giveaways like this one you're hosting are always a very generous and nice thing, but this one in particular was probably my happiest one. <3

I’m so glad you found such a great support network here, and even took it off site. Things are good in my life, I’m leaving to focus on some great projects in the future. Thank you for the good wishes, all the best for you and yours as well c:

I know subeta is a pet site though I’ve never really played it like one. Glad to meet someone who enjoys those aspects of the game. And who doesn’t love to hear about sketchy corners of the internet? I’m glad this one has a happy ending c: Marriages are hard, I’m glad you had a positive memory in Baen though!

Thanks for the thoughtful spoilers formatting! I have fond memories of the HA contest boards. Some of them are so wonderfully organized. No need to apologize, I think a conclusion I’ve gotten from this board is to not worry about endings, to enjoy cool experiences while they last, and to be grateful we had them after the end.

Oh, wow, I did not know such a thing existed. What a great way to bring people together. I have a love-hate relationship with notifications but it’s always exciting to see them on screen c:

I meant I’ve seen the press F meme but just never for a grapefruit. It’s, well, a grapefruit. Did not know that’s from call of duty tho, cool! Also, nice use of the bg and lights!

I’m glad it helps!

Subeta is a great game for representation. I’m glad seeing different people in games has helped you figure out your own identity, and experiment in a safe space. Thank you for sharing your story!

Yes, growing up with no money to spend on games, I definitely appreciated how you can build wealth from nothing on subeta. I also enjoyed being able to share that wealth with others. Thank you for the good wishes, my best for you and yours as well c:

Thank you so much for the items! I didn't want to ping you again since I pinged you on that other board :O

I agree with you about enjoying experiences while they last, it's really cool going through and reading what memories people recall from Subeta. I was considering creating another HA contests because I did enjoy running them, and I also enjoyed the time when I made profiles for people as well. Sometimes I miss doing that, but I've been focusing on my own pets and achievements lately XD

Thank you again! Also keen memory :) It's not a super exact number since my undergrad was in the art school of a larger university (I'm not clear on the larger implications are between that and a more trade focused art school like RISD) so I had to take other classes as well haha. And ah yes, feel free whenever if you ever want, you always have a slot waiting for you :)

and yes! Though weather seems to fit small-talk level of relevance, I just have such fond memories of a late spring breeze coupled with the surreal experience of seeing people-in-the-flesh I've only known through pixels. It really solidified how far the internet social climate has become and how people are living these full and separate lives on the other side of the screen. It was really so sweet and helped provide a refreshing perspective to my parents' mantra of "everyone you meet online is an internet predator" haha.

THAT'S SO COOL WTF

that makes sense, thanks for explaining. technical writing is so goddamn boring. I'm so tired of people thinking the only jobs are teaching and book writing. i would be significantly richer if i received money every time someone asked me if i wanted to become an author lol.

languages are so cool! i really wish i had been taught a second language aside from English. you can make a loooot of money doing translation work and writing in both languages. I've seen a few job postings and whenever a salary is posted, it's always significantly higher than other jobs out there.

it sounds like you are doing literary translation, which unfortunately pays a lot less, yeah? translating books/non-business texts is invaluable and i wish it were treated as such.

your HAs are getting cooler and cooler! I'm really into birds, and have contemplated taking up bird watching so I'm a fan of all the winged pets you use. I wasn't able to travel until I was much older, first time I left my home country was when I was 19 so the internet was my gateway to world culture. Subeta was the first time I actually had firsthand interactions with people from other walks of life.

And yes, there's a novelty to connections that are ephemeral. Sometimes it might feel futile to seek out bonds that aren't practical or ones that probably won't last beyond a common interest, but then there's a special quality to having that kind low-pressure friendship. I found out that I'm the kind of person that runs on a social battery; in the sense that there will be times that I want to be social but will need to be by myself to recharge. These kind of transitory relationships are a lower stakes in a sense, but not less meaningful. I treasure them moreso now that I understand what kind of person I am. And while we haven't completely lost touch, just knowing that they are well in their own little world is my own little solace. c:

Though my account was created in 2015 I'm basically a newbie. I promptly forgot all about Subeta within days of my original signup as it was during a pretty stressful time in my life. A little over two weeks ago I stumbled across Subeta again and when I went to make an account found myself rather surprised when it said I already had one. I stopped writing a while back and one of the greatest things to come out of this short time period is after adopting a flock of pets my inspiration for storytelling has been re-sparked. I'm so excited to flesh out their tales and get them posted to their profiles. (hopefully soon) The community here is absolutely amazing! Subeta has become an instant and much needed freeing space for me. I know I can be 100% myself here without fear of judgment and that's something I haven't really been able to find on similar sites.

What a generous and creative idea! Fun to read everyone's stories, too. Despite my love for proper English language, I must admit I'm a failure at writing, so my stories will likely be short and to-the-point. I do have two things I can share, off the top of my head. The first being that, through Subeta, I've found not one but TWO friends -- nearly my exact age even -- who live in my area. Stumbling on them was huge because I truly live in the middle of gosh-forsaken nowhere. This is farm country. No big cities around for at least 2 hours in any direction. My second positive experience due to Subeta is that when I joined, 12+ years ago, I was pretty computer illiterate and had NO CLUE about anything even remotely coding-wise. Although I don't have much time to work on my personal/pet profiles (being a full-time mom lol), through the work I have been able to do with them (mostly my tribute pet

RosieFrances) I have learned a lot about coding, which keeps me relevant (lol) and helps me relate and interact with my teenage computer nerd son. Who woulda thunk that a virtual pet game would make that kind of familial connection possible? 😄 ❤

Thank you for doing the giveaway , and what a good thoughtful prompt!

My 10 are:

As for my meaningful experience, I have made friends on Subeta from across several US cities and also other countries, the first time I've ever managed to make Internet Friends, and we've stayed in touch for about 10 years now, which is incredible! They've really helped me in tough times, and I'm glad I was able to be there for them when they needed, too. Even though we are no longer as active on Subeta, we've continued talking off-site, and it's been great, especially now during the pandemic when it's been more important than ever to connect to people virtually.

Sad to see someone go but I understand the reasons behind why some go at times. Whether it be life issues and other various factors.

I guess the fondest memory I have of Subeta is from when I first started playing the game. I made some many great friends during this time period of my time on Subeta. We had some great times together on the site and it pains me a bit thinking about them. Since I lost contact with them and its unfortunate. However, I will always cherish those friends I made back then as they gave me the inspiration to stick around and even though I took a long hiatus from the site, those memories of those friends will always be a fond memory in my heart. I honestly do not know if I could quit Subeta completely because of the memories made and coming back and making new memories with new friends.

Wow what did neopets become after I left? I remember thinking it was silly they gave all the pets clothing items which looked so weird. I just wanted paintbrushes. In any case, glad you’re here now. What a lovely blush! Congrats. Building self esteem is definitely a thread I’ve heard a lot in this post. If it helps any, I was also an unlucky kid growing up in terms of games. But that made me determined, as in: screw the odds, I have skill. I’ll become so good that I don’t need people to give me what I want—I’ll get it myself. Hence, my closet of several bil sp worth of stuff and 40 or so cw’s. I didn’t have money to spend on the site, but I joined contests/worked the market to get what I want, and much of it was thanks to people like Reiko who hosted these for us. Unfortunately, I don’t have anything from your cw wl. However, if you see anything you’d like in any of my shops, keep an eye out for upcoming contests through my forum group SolGives. I believe in rewarding people for effort and skill, so there will be entry prizes as well as winning prizes.

Hey, it’s good to focus on yourself sometimes, online or irl c:

You are too kind! I may well take you up on that slot :3 And what a beautiful image. HA’s are all so similar, I do wonder how players look irl, but I also grew up with the “everyone online is an internet predator” mindset, so we may never know lol

Yes, the translation offers I’ve gotten have been lucrative. Unfortunately, most people look for technical translation, and the work doesn’t pay enough/isn’t stable enough to make up for how boring it can be. Literary translation isn’t well paid—most people in the field seem to make their money as professors, and do translations they love as a part of that job. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), I’m expensive, so it was never something I considered as a career. More like a side hobby I take up if the work is interesting/lucrative enough.

The first foreground came with a seagull and I had to maintain the pattern lol. That one was still my fave tho ;.; Gotcha. That exposure is important since it was your formative years. Travel as an adult can feel very different, in a good way though—you actually know what’s going on! Though there’s the added responsibility of figuring it out when you don’t actually know anything :P And there you go. I’m the opposite—I get energy from people (have been bothering friends a lot during coronavirus, because you can’t see ppl anymore ;.;). I’m glad you have good memories to keep forever c:

I got your sMail and I’d love to help but I don’t have uncommitted sp on hand. You’re free to ask for items from my shops to resell, however.

Welcome back! I’m adopting out some pets as I’m leaving in case you’re interested in any of them. Best wishes for your stories! How exciting that the pets here have sparked your imagination. Subeta is pretty amazing in how nice the community is. I wonder how you’d create a community like that, seems a skill we can use in this day and age.

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the stories here! I’ve learned so much these past few days. What a coincidence that you found local friends here! I’m glad y’all could meet up. I’m sorry for your loss, but glad subeta has been a place where you can remember your child. It’s super impressive that you acquired coding skills for pet profiles, and found it was a way to connect with your son. You go!

Wow! 10 years. I understand things are pretty crazy in the U.S. right now. You and yours stay safe and healthy!

I’m glad you’ve developed such strong, lasting bonds with people on here. I can def see why people stay on the site so long, and I’m glad you’re finding new communities as the years go on.

So- Subeta was something me and my long time best friend bonded over when we first started talking. It was strange! I'd tried to get other friends into the site but it never really stuck for them so I hadn't really had anyone to talk about the site with. She doesn't play much now but it's still something I update her on when something interesting happens. I dunno- I'm not very social on subeta, I don't have a ton of memories besides silly things like just being super into making large pet TCs (still am, always will be. I like making complicated themes)- but the few times I was social have been good- I've had a few acquaintances that I still try to send stuff to on holidays who've done awesome things for me. Maybe I should be more social more often- it's hard when things like that scare me but I should start giving it more of a shot after being here so long.

Thanks for the giveaway, good luck in RL and thanks for reading me ramble!
