I hope the pup learns not to do that!

I love my cats and can handle cleaning up a few litterbox misses, but I can definitely understand a person who finds it too gross ;)

(It's never quite been as gross as some of my son's diaper blowouts though when he was an infant.... 🤣 )

My diabetic cats died quite a while ago. The cause for them was primarily being overweight. Since then I've learned techniques to keep cats from getting overweight (mostly portion control and specified feeding times and making sure each cat just eats their own food, that last one being the hardest).

I don't completely align with your take on cat food and what is the best kind, but I'm glad you were able to get your cat's diabetes into remission. One of mine had that happen and had a seizure due to too much insulin; I gave her karo syrup and she snapped out of it; the vet told me it had been my fast action doing that which had kept it from killing her. In her case we didn't change her diet, she just got more energy after she started taking the insulin and exercised more and got herself not to need it. She stayed in remission for a couple of years until she got older and less energetic, the diabetes came back and eventually killed her at age 14.

I don't think he'll quit. I thought he was well pee trained because all I've caught him doing in the house is pooping. Then hubs found a few spots in the house where he obviously has peed more than once. Gah!! And yes I find cat messes way grosser than my small dog's. Even though my hubs cleaned the boxes. :-P My daughter's poop, only when she was a baby, never bothered me too much. Except the time she painted the wall above her crib with poo. :-D

I hope your week is going well!!!

oh I'm definitely kinda paranoid, but I think it's the sugar and grain industries trying to fight for their right to shovel in our dollars and your pounds.

I don't mean to be a stranger lol, work... I just got a lot more responsibilities and I've been working really hard at keeping up! If you know what works for you do it! I just get super annoyed about the fat thing, probably from arguing with vegans and their outdated misinformation on reddit.

it is SO hard to make sure each cat eats their own food. My diabetic cat was, of course, the dominant cat, and he wanted my other cat's food for the longest time--and my other cat would let him have it, as he couldn't understand that the other cat had diabetes and had to have a portion-controlled diet of mostly meat.

Finally I got them both off dry food but it was a hassle. Out of sheer curiosity, what do you disagree with about my take on cat food--the "by-products are fine" (which is definitely controversial in some circles) or do you really think that cats should eat plants? (I know better than to try and change your mind, you and I both have strong and well-considered opinions we stick to.)

I agree with you that diabetic cats are almost always overweight. I don't know of any cats that have Type I diabetes, though I'm sure it can happen--it's almost always Type II.

If I remember right you have a great job, so being busy with work is a good reason to not play online.

I can't give up my meats, even if my conscience would prefer me to be vegan. I tried it and felt hungry the whole week or two. Lol

I think 'by-products' can be fine, depending on quality of production and what it's byproducts of -- a certain amount of skin/bone/gristle/guts/etc is healthy for cats to consume, but not all by-products are healthy and they shouldn't have too much. I also think some plants are fine for cats to consume in small amounts (ones that are non-toxic) and certain vegetables and grains are not bad for them if properly processed and treated (in particular, corn doesn't cause issues for most cats as part of their diet, and contains nutrients cats digest well and gain good nutrition from). The reason cats are obligate carnivores has to do with their need for amino acids not found in plants; as long as they get that dietary need met, eating only meat can give them too much phosphorus for ideal long life (hard on the kidneys, primarily) which is one reason so many older cats have kidney problems. Studies show that cats digest starch differently than humans, but still well, and as long as more than 57-60 percent of their calories come from protein, some of the rest can come from carbohydrates and it is better for them that it be starch than sugar. Too much fat leads to diabetes in cats more quickly and directly than too much starch, as well, which may occur with meat only diets. (See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2387258/ for one study testing this )

Interesting, I'll look into multiple studies. I really felt that diet saved Asterix's life but my other cat, Speak, had a congenital kidney problem and went into renal failure. Unfortunately he did not tolerate the treatment well and succumbed. It was very challenging feeding them both during the period when they were both sick, because keeping Speak from getting too much phosphorus and Asterix from getting grain was craxy-making. Plus, I don't feed gluten to cats because I don't have gluten in my house--because I was well over 30 when diagnosed with celiac disease, I'm extremely reactive to gluten--can't kiss people who have eaten bread recently, a former roommate's shampoo set me off, etc.

I've seen issues with wheat for cats, but corn is tolerated better. And bonus, corn hasn't got any gluten either :)

It's difficult to find good research on it, but what I've found points to corn being acceptable for cats' consumption, along with a reasonable number of other plant foods.

(But not cranberries :) , at least my cats have always hated them and refused to eat any food containing them)

I am always amused by "Corn gluten meal" which isn't gluten at all.

oh no! you need to be with flyingkitten! hugs congratulations on your little one though!

it's a pretty ok job sometimes :) I don't understand feeling guilty about the food chain myself; at least if you're a paying customer, you have some say about the animal welfare issues--they're not going to listen to anyone who's never gonna buy their product. Free-range and antibiotic-free, high animal welfare scoring meat doesn't exist because vegans asked for it :)

love your avatar today. I'm a fairly new player (just got my FIRST loyalty box yesterday!) and about 6 months ago on subetalodge I discovered all the retired items that used to be in the shops that you can get for pocket lint (like that corset) that are really fun and very simple but also really versatile. Even though the heavy black lineart on some of the modular skirts/tops isn't the best, they are such great layering pieces and I used them a lot in my FIAP outfits, especially that one anime-related set Callista did.

I love seeing those items "in the wild" and the rainbow sticker on the black shoes with it is great, just that whole black & rainbows thing you have going on there is awesome.

Uuuuuuurgh. I'm sick guys, but I can't not go in because there's too much to do.

And I've been losing weight since cutting carbs way back at the beginning of the year--I lost a ton of weight when I was diagnosed celiac because you get super fat from celiac disease when you hit the point I was at when diagnosed where gluten has fucked up your intestines so that you can eat 3000 calories a day and still feel ravenous because you get the calories but none of the nutrients, but then I discovered gluten free junk food and gained some of it back.

But I'm sick, and last night I just had to eat a shit ton of rice due to feeling like crap on a cracker. I absolutely couldn't pace myself with the rice like I usually do. I wanted all the carbs, all of them. I ordered the curry because I wanted something hot that would clear my sinuses (and it helped a lot) but after I'd eaten the curry and all the lamb in it with the rice, I could NOT not clean that plate.

Please tell me I will get my willpower back when I don't feel like somebody ironed me. I mean it makes sense to crave fruit and certain veg when you're sick because of the vitamins you need, and I would absolutely not fret like this if I had eaten two containers full of raspberries (which is something I will do when sick and it does not impede my goals) or all the spinach ever. But I literally ate empty carbs last night like a wolf eats its prey. And I feel a tiny bit better so I might need to do that again today.

thank you so much for the kind words about my HA. I was really happy to come up with the black + rainbow idea based on getting 'secret sweetie' gifts of this hair and shoes :D

Here's the outfit: Private Outfit

is definitely pretty; so is which I have on under it.

For the rice craving: maybe try eating brown rice? At least that way you get the whole grain nutrition benefits.

I had the same effect when I stopped eating wheat, even though the test for celiac was negative. (I sometimes wonder if it was a false negative, since I had so many beneficial effects that would be the case if I was celiac and stopped eating wheat)
