Well hopefully staff can be happy that they stumped us pretty good with one of these now. :P
+ = You created a Bowling Piggy Ball!
I thought for sure this abomination would send him into a rage :P
So we're really kind of stuck on this challenger, I guess. Have any hints been given out?
(Good job, Amber.)
Thank you! It's so rewarding to win all those Imp tokens :D
Ugh I suck really bad at figuring out how to unlock challengers... So I am pretty stumped.
Stoked we will get out QAT challenger tho! I've been doing as many quests as I can and the double quest thing really helps.
[edit] I wrote this out to try and see some patterns with the past FT unlockables...
After looking at it all, it appears that their phobias don't really have much to do with unlocking them, it's moreso about what makes them angry than what scares them. Several had hints written within the text (when looking back knowing the solution). Almost all of these were based on the character's personality or what they are known for. Although I do question Mathis because I had NO idea about Captain. Was that lore available in any way before Captain's Ashes was released as the CS challenger??
list of previous FT challengers and hints
Maybel
Hint: Still, we all canβt be friendly ALL of the time. There are some things that others might do that really gets our Oatmeal. And some Subetans, no matter how frail they look, are not going to turn away a fight if itβs for something they believe in! A certain Minions Market shopkeeper in particular has been stretching her old bones out and is not going to stand by while people anger her.
Maybel is available now as a challenger if youβre mean enough to find the way to unlock her!
Solution: Delete 5 minions found in Minions Market
Fear: Cleithrophobia (being trapped)
Bubbles Hint: It seems that you shouldnβt be underestimating one-armed Unliving shopkeepers, either. Something has been troubling Bubbles of late, and heβs not quite sure why, but it makes him ridiculously angry and youβd do best to stay out of his way! Bubbles is available now as a challenger if you can figure out what triggers his rage and unlocks him! Solution: Have one of Gunter's Brewery drinks in your inventory and visit The Lost Skeleton Fear: Hydrophobia (water / drowning)
Olivette Hint: Hello dears, hello hello. What are you doing here dears, are you after a mask? I don't make many new ones you know, my arthritis and all, but I have so many, so so many stored from ages past, and many have made their way back to me somehow too! You may only see Olivette for a few weeks out of the year, but she's always there, and always busy busy busy. She doesn't consider herself alone - she has her masks, you see. She talks to them for days on end, and she will tell anyone that asks that some even talk back to her! Not much fazes Olivette, not even the small children who try to pinch the odd mask from her in their games. There is one thing that will really set her off, though. You'd do best not to find it, for Olivette has been around a long time, and picked up a lot of tricks over the years. Still, if you'd like to face her, she's now available as a challenger if you can find out what unlocks her! Solution: Visit Ziara City while your Human Avatar is faceless Fear: Oudenophobia (nothingness / emptiness)
Johannes Hint: Are you here for the latest Goodbye Virelai music? Let me just take a 'minuet' to find that for you. Ha! Of course I have it right here. What's that? You'd like sheet music to Horns and Roses? They never did 'measure up' to my tastes, but to each their own. Johannes may not be the most harmonious shopkeeper to talk with, and you have to excuse his many puns, but he does know his music. He isn't one to become involved in things outside of the music world so it can be difficult to get to really know him, although it's been whispered that a nice hot pretzel can really change his tone. There is one thing that will not put you in Johannes' good music books, though. If you can figure out what it is, then beware! If you can figure out what unlocks him, Johannes is a challenger that will really get you in treble. Solution: Put any of the following violin items into the Fragmentizer: Brava Violin Grazia Violin Prima Violin Sonora Violin Fear: Atelophobia (not doing something right / not being good enough)
Esmerelda Hint: βI can give away invitations but I canβt give away fashion sense. Iβm sure youβre just full of inner beauty.β Esmerelda doesnβt have time for your nonsense. Sheβs busy deciding on the latest fashion trends and working to keep Subeta looking stunning. Details of the populaceβs incompetence do not interest her. But many things displease Esmerelda. Many MANY things. Youβd have to try really hard to get her to stop what sheβs doing and focus on you, though. If you can figure out what it is you have to do to grab her attention, be prepared for a one-on-one appointment with the most scathing personal critique of your life. Thatβs all. Solution: Wear at least 8 clothing items released before 2012 and visit Subeautique (Note: the items you choose cannot be from her shop) Fear: Textophobia (certain fabrics)
Gunter Hint: "Liebchens, I am very busy with getting my summer project ready, ja! I hope you are coming to enjoy it with me. Don't be scared with ze lack of meat sausage, it's still very tasty and will put all ze hair on your chest!" Gunter is an overtly cheerful sort of man, taking to whatever he does with a large amount of gusto. You may not think a man such as this would ever have a dark side, and Gunter would hate you to believe such a thing. He's always one to pour you a beer on the house if you're looking down, or cheer you up with a good joke. If it's an act he's putting on, it's a good one. Of course there is something that really gets Gunter's goat. If you can find out what it is and unlock Gunter as a challenger be prepared for a match to rival your strongest drinking game. He doesn't like to lose. Solution: Have a number of pets with 0 health and visit him at SAI HQ Fear: Carnophobia (meat)
Batista Hint: "Hurry, hurry, hurry! You look like a person who wants to win big, step right up and see if you can beat me!" Batista is a confident and charming stall holder over on the Delphi Carnival Pier, always beaming and willing to start up a fast-paced (and often one-sided) conversation. If you get pulled in, you might find you're all of a sudden in the middle of one of his ploys and you're not quite sure how but you're parting with your money and all the while with a smile on your face. He's all ruse and it doesn't seem as if anything could shake his confidence. But there is one thing that truly wipes the smile from his face, and if you can find it and unlock Batista as a challenger be prepared for the trickiest battle you could face! Solution: Have a black cat item (such as 13th Cat) in your inventory and win a game of Bluff Fear: Triskaidekaphobia (the number 13)
Mathis Hint: He doesn't say much, but don't be fooled into thinking that means he doesn't feel much either. Mathis is a deeply caring soul to those that he has formed a relationship with. Someone like Mathis is the most dependable friend you could expect to have! Plus he puts up the BEST shelves. Your pet hipottu could sleep on them, they're so sturdy! Mathis doesn't fight out of anger. He's more the kind of guy to break up a fight. The only thing likely to get him to lash out is being confronted with the one thing he spends his life trying to avoid. If you can find out what that is and unlock Mathis as a challenger, be gentle! He doesn't mean to hurt you. But he WILL hurt you. Solution: Lose multiple battles with a death/graveyard themed minion attached to your battling pet Fear: Thanatophobia (death)
Lukien Hint: It's hard to really describe Lukien. He's the kind of person you just about remember seeing out of the corner of your eyes, but you can't really picture him. You might describe him as having some sort of tattoos, his eyes redβ¦or was it blue? He's always moving about when you're buying potions. Mostly you're looking at the potions, Lukien isn't the kind to engage in idle chit chat. He's not usually the sort to engage in anything, actually. Except, well, there is something that's likely to bring him to a panicked rage. If you can find the time to figure out what it is and unlock Lukien as a challenger, beware! He knows his chemistry, and he has quite the stock of potions guaranteed to have you wishing you'd forgotten him sooner. Solution: ? Fear: ? Potentially something to do with time or something to do with social anxiety.
my own added thoughts
Maybel
Minion shop keeper / loves minions > unlock by hurting minions
Bubbles We didn't know about Gunter back then. But a sibling rivalry could have been guessed. Not much for hints in the text.
Olivette Makes and sells masks > no faces = no mask. Also a bit of a word play in this one (if you want to FACE her)
Johannes Has a violin, unlock by destroying a violin. Not much for hints in the text.
Esmerelda Known for being a fashion snob (old clothes being "ugly") and there was also a text hint (MANY MANY leading to the several items that need to be worn)
Gunter Animal lover who gets upset by cruelty to animals (pets). Some hints in text that he cares the most about how animals are treated.
Batista A guy who relies on luck doesn't like bringers of un-luck (getting lucky by fooling people during the game of Bluff) Not much for hints in the text, and really leads us to believe he is more of a con-man than a guy who relies on luck.
Mathis So I get that he was trying to avoid dealing with the loss of Captain. But how would we have known that before the release of Captain's Ashes? Graveyard/death theme to trigger him.. I honestly don't even really know how this got solved (wasn't it on accident?)
Lukien We know that he doesn't like to engage in anything (word used twice). Not sure if there is anything engagement themed that could be related? Maybe something with the engagement rings? Definitely could be something TIME consuming.. but no ideas on that one. I think that either way it'd make the most sense that it would be triggered in his shop, where you are bothering him..
Ngl, with the solutions becoming progressively harder, I'm kind of losing my motivation to solve them. Stumbling upon the challenger, then trying to find out how they were unlocked was more fun.
Ya, I agree. I mean it shouldn't be anything too wild anyways, previously we were just GIVEN the monthly challengers and didn't have to do anything. I feel like the unlock methods are progressively making less sense. And there's no reason for the unlock to be difficult just for the sake of difficulty, and have absolutely nothing to do with any known information. Like Mathis - what the heck? How would anyone have known that? Batista was a weird stretch too, and inflated that item [temporarily] insanely. I don't think anyone ever found another item that worked for him.
Hmm been combing over all the info trying to find that spark that gives an idea... and I got nothing.
Time, memory and the like seem to be a common theme but how can that factor into anything?
Yeah, I feel like a lot of people (myself included, so I'm not throwing shade) are just giving up and waiting for someone else to figure it out because the solutions are kind of zany now.
I did test the filled bottles from the glade in my invent. Maybe its filling one though? Someone remember at 8 pm please lol
It's not a guarantee that the text has anything to do with the unlock method though. So we could be grabbing at red herrings with those :P (although the wording is unusual).
I do believe that it is cannon that Lukien doesn't actually make the colorizing potions and elixirs? That's kind of confusing actually. Because supposedly he just took over the stock from The Magic Box Guy, but he also makes the Aqua Potion?
I was thinking he moreso made the original potions of that shop but I dunno now ha.
I know a lot folks have tried (and reported failures) of several things I thought of to do with potions. There were quite a few guesses that I thought would have been good solutions XD
You Won! You have defeated Crithbolcan Cynde earned 3500 EXP Points!
14/30 days completed.
They also said some of the challengers would correspond with any events or something happening during the month. Keel Hauliday is this month, but I see no connection there.
However, this month is also Subeta's anniversary month, and the word "engage" was used twice in the news post as mentioned above. I'm just grasping at straws , but with no other hints to go on there might be a connection here ?
I think all of the solutions up until last month's have actually made a decent amount of sense. Unlocking Mathis was the first time I remember still not really understanding why that was the solution even after we figured it out. I hope this one ends up making sense in hindsight once we know what it is, but right now we could probably use a hint. ;~;
The secret is that Lukien is actually the challenger reward for completing the Quest-A-Thon! All that time we've sunk into fulfilling it over the past two weeks!
...
I'm only partially jesting. Kind of ridiculous that no one has stumbled onto the right guess.
What I've tried to no avail
Using a Surging Power Potion on SunDragon, having one in my inventory, deleting one from my inventory, fragging one.
Wearing one of the fourth/fifth/sixth Anniversary items.
Having Anniversary items in my inventory.
Wearing wedding rings/wedding themed items.
In the vein of reasoning for a broken relationship, feeding a Drowned Flavor Fetus Pop to a pet, and having one in my inventory.
I really cannot think of anything that we can do from the blurb we get from the news post. I don't think they'd make us buy super expensive items, only to delete them. The way to unlock has always been something that everyone would be able to do...
Are we looking at this the wrong way?
From
Just gonna leave that there as an added bit of info, not like it helps any but hey.
But weren't most of them originally formulated by Magic Box Guy? Or was he written out of existence? Maybe it's impostor syndrome.
225 Limitless Endurance Potions turned into +335 health~ widow's almost at 5.5k health now, very satisfying.
i want to boost someone, but i can't decide on who... i'm leaning towards widow's story partner, ceasefire, but grillby is further along than him stat-wise. hm s;
I think that's funny LOL but....you just never know :)
