When you mentioned getting feta in Florida, I wondered if you meant Tarpon Springs... huge Greek community there!
I remember getting humongous tubs of feta when I was a kid... my great uncle ran an import export store in Milwaukee back then.
My fav thing to do is find Greek Orthodox churches that have Greek festivals. Oh my, the foooood... spanakopita, diples, souvlaki.... -drools-
haha yes! I didn't get my feta from the sponge docks...but I did get it from a local grocery store and like you said since its such a huge greek community local stores cater to the greeks there with the big tubs of feta! :)
Aww big tubs of Feta! I never appreciated it when I was out there because I didn't think it was anything special LOL...then I moved and was like umm this small tub is NOT like normal feta (too dry) and super small haha :) I know in Tarpon Springs they have those festivals often cause my sons Yaya used to cook for those :) I miss greek food so much! Though I'm not sure what the diples is?? I know one thing I miss is those grape wrapped leaves.....with the rice and meat? YUMMY! ohh i remember...dolmadas? lol don't know if my spelling is right or not :)

A store here sells the best Christmas cookies that I always eat way too many of. I'm also a sucker for all the peppermint chocolate chip shakes that pop up... >_>
Plus I'm always down for some mint chocolate, peppermint bark, or white chocolate hot chocolate. Yum!
Dolmades! You know, I have never had those... I must remedy that.
You would like diples, they are a dessert... made of thin dough that is rolled into long strips, fried in hot oil and dipped into a honey syrup.
I have been able to find Greek festivals in many places... south Florida, rural GA, Virginia, Tennessee. We RV and travel a lot.
cheesecake. ... and um. green bean casserole, are probably my favorites.

A favorite holiday food of mine is always candied yams with marshmallows on top. I make it now but the crunch of pecans and plump raises mixed with hints of molasses, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar is perfect!
turkey.....with.....gravy..... melts...... in...... my mouth

my mom's fudge. It's her mom's recipe. I need to make my daughter learn it so she can pass it down....
It may sound kinda boring, but my mom makes really good bread. Like, really good bread. Also those chocolate orange things that you have to smack on a table or something, those are fun.

Some might think it's boring, but good ol' sugar cookies in holiday shapes have always been my favorite. Bonus if they have icing and sprinkles!

omg Dolmades are the best...just don't get the ones with the "red" sauce...I had one family friend visiting and her red sauce ones were awful :o If you can get the ones made with lemon sauce? delicious!
And ahhh I would love the diples :) they sound delicious :)
