That's a shame. Like I said, it was worth a shot... but I seem to recall spreading it out over months. And like... you know... why would I have done that if there was another way? 😆

yeah, I remember doing mine and it was a real killer.

Sometimes you can work "stacks" - I've opened ornament boxes like that, open one then reload repeatedly to open more. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

That's true even for the pumpkins. Some types work very well... others don't work that way well or at all.

Hey guys! Just letting yall know I have not abandoned you again -- I got stuck in an ebil installing updates, please do not.. machine reboots, unable to finish installing updates.. machine reboots.. undoing all changes.. machine reboots.. installing updates..

I like the look of this Windows 10 but ta'hell with microsoft trying to force updates down my throat then keep me in limbo for FIVE -- yes, F I V E -- freaking hours then I have to hard crash it and reboot in safe mode just to try and use my own system. I spent several hours looking for a workaround and was stunned to see one in the Microsoft area where a representative basically said you don't own the software, you're leasing it and can not stop the updates.

No. Not gonna happen. When I buy a box of cereal I buy it to have, not lease. They're outta their everlovin minds if they think Im keeping this "best platform to date!" monstrosity. But that means Ive spent 20 hours backing up the hours of video from Standing Rock, all the images, music, movies, my software.. its been anything but fun.

Now I'm going to do a clean install of Win 8 and hope I don't regret it. I'm not sure if 7 or 8 is best so we'll see. I'll be back online in earnest tonight if all goes well.

Wish me luck!

Ive been offline for so long I didnt realize win10 doesnt let you turn updates off or even choose which ones to install. I want nothing to so with an OS that tells you what you'll be doing and messes up your system by resetting all your custom work because they don't like it. Ta'hell with that noise.

But I've got a lot of irreplacable data and images on here so its a task I must admit I wasn't prepared to undertake. Im about to go over my checklist once more then theres no turning back lol and for the first time since I got windows eons ago I'm a bit nervous.

Ok.. off I go

My number one rule in life is backup backup backup! I have backups of my backups. Auto backing up to the cloud... Several external HDs... and for anything I want to make damn sure I keep (say... my thesis?), I have it on one or more flash drives AND email it to myself.

Like... I'm hardcore. I've lost too much in the past. 😆

set your internet connection to metered. It can't bully you into downloads until you are ready and they have been debugged

Google wushowhide and read about it, then get it from microsoft webby. You can stop the updates you don't want and stop the new features abomination, for now anyway.

: I agree with you, if you pay for it you own it. If Microsoft made toasters, every time you bought a loaf of bread, you would have to buy a new toaster. You wouldn't have to take the toaster, but you'd still have to pay for it anyway. Toaster 10 would weigh 15,000 pounds (hence requiring a reinforced steel countertop), draw enough electricity to power a small city, take up 95% of the space in your kitchen, would claim to be the first toaster that let's you control how light or dark you want your toast to be, and would secretly interrogate your other appliances to find out who made them. Everyone would hate Microsoft toasters, but nonetheless would buy them since most of the good bread only works with their toasters. It would never toast your toast the way you liked it.

Apple is no better. All the software I use is called 32 bit software. I guess that's the way data is handled. Next year, Apple will no longer allow 32 bit software to run on MacOX, requiring me to repurchase all my software if I want to keep up to date on the operating system when it updates to 64 bit software. That means my music programs, my writing programs, Office, ALL my Adobe software ( I have the Master Suite which has every Adobe program and it COST!) (Apple toasters would be small, plastic, make perfect toast on bread that only apple made, and each piece of toast would have a cute smily face on it.) Apple toasters would cost three times as much as Microsoft toasters.

But Adobe doesn't let you purchase anymore. You RENT IT MONTHLY! The Tech Giants are making me mad. If only you could do the internet with a pencil and paper.

GAAH!

Oh, and the update process....yeah-no!

.. I don't believe MS supports 8 anymore where they still have a few things for 7. I still use 7 without problems but if you update any, MS sticks in the "go to 10" update in quite a few places.. might want to watch that carefully.

omg this is InSaNe, never in my life have I had this kind of trouble wiping a drive and doing a clean install. I swear to bob Win10 is somehow still on there hiding, the blue squares logo pops up every time I reboot. I cant believe the audacity of Microsoft and Apple too but the analogy was hilarious.

I'd tried that with 10 Trubble but from what I understand, it was after some big push update that rendered it useless if not installed before. Sneaky bastards.

Right now I'm only going to stay connected long enough to get to Subeta then I'm unplugging it again. I'll use my phone to read up on what to do to keep get rid of the telementary and all that other crap before allowing anything to be added or taken away. I dont need their store or any apps, Ive got my own software .. which reminds me ..

If Adobe 'rents' or 'leases' their stuff too I'm going to redo my hosts file and block them completely. This is so invasive its creepy.

Windows 10 updates are a nightmare, good luck with that :/ I've been trying to update 3 devices. One lost the sound driver, the other lost the network driver and the third which was a clean install failed to update at all.

Good luck Can you remove the creators update by using a restore point? There are several folk telling how to remove creators if the restore doesn't work.

If you are sticking with win 10, whatever you do set your internet connection to metered. It cannot or should not download updates without asking. That's where the wushowhide comes in you can run it then see what it wants to install (still on metered) and pick the ones needed and block the rest.

I turned off the music in my iPhone when my mom passed away and it deleted ALL my itunes music! WHA?????? We don't get to own anything we buy anymore? yeesh.
