I also work with dementia patients. It is not easy. When I was pregnant I took one of my ladies to the bathroom. She was perfectly fine. As soon as I asked her to sit she started screaming that I had kidnapped her, that I was racist against the president of the United States, and then she punched me in the stomach. It is a physically taxing job sometimes and always an emotional taxing one. I hope you are okay!

I still think I knew what I signed up to when I started working there. I am constantly on the watch for new schoolings for myself, so I can understand this health condition in a better way.

But what I've found out over the last 6 years (which is the span I am working with sneior citizens - before I was just in Kindergarten) is that the best thing you can do is to be undertsanding even if things look weird to you.

I am not there to critizise or make them feel bad.

People always say I am like "mother of them all" which might come close since I love them all and try to do what's best for them, even if that means having a discussion with my boss about food/working times.

I am the same way. Dementia is such a sad disease and it robs people of themselves. It is our job as caregivers to give them the things they need. Yesterday my client that had not talked or recognized people for months was coherent after spending the day with me. She recognized her daughter and the daughter was in tears. This is how it pays off. To know that you are making a difference and giving them pride and hope.

yes it's great if they can suddnely do or remember things that they usually can not do, even if it's just for a short space of time.

It is amazing. I would not trade my job for anything in the world.

I am happy that I do that job only on a 4 hours bases - so part time and have my other part timein Kindergarten, which is a great thing. The kids bring in so much energy I can take to the old people and the old peopel give so much calm and wisdom I can in return take to Kindergarten and the kids.

People look at me like "how does that fit" but I think it's the perfect match!

And the best part ist the "coming together for things like cookie baking/painting and singing with both groups.

Basic ladder safety is to have someone hold onto it while you climb. You're gonna need to adhere to that no matter how short your ladder is because you work in a hazardous environment. Judgement or no judgement, you are entitled to your own safety.

I don't think throwing snowballs is part of Melody's Little Helper because I had Melody's Little Helper before the throwing snowballs Achievement was even possible.

I was a preschool teacher and nanny for a long time. I still take care of kids while working with the elderly. The jobs are very very similar.

I work with little kids. Their energy is amazing! Sometimes one will say I can't or i am too tired and I jump around them, HOw can you be tired or not have energy, you are young! LoL
