I have an odd personal tradition where I listen to the same song every Thanksgiving, and I've been doing it since at least 2009. It's not Thanksgiving themed but it makes me imagine an autumn forest with lots of orange leaves falling around. Song link if anyone's interested.

In my household, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. My favourite fall activity is to stay inside and cuddle up in a blanket with a good book. c:

Hello all!

My favourite Thanksgiving memory is helping my Mom cook dinner. My Mom passed away when I was 13 (it has been 27 years ago, so nice to think of this, so thank you for that :) ) I loved her stuffing. It had chunks of green apple, celery, almond slivers, raisins and all of the yummy flavour and bready goodness included. Even though I was quite young I played sous chef and as an adult can cook so many lovely dishes because I spent so much time as her sous chef. My sister is almost 5 years older so she remembers so much more of her cooking then me. When I go to her house for the holidays and she cooks it is like visiting a memory of dinners past.

Also I love the smell of burning leaves/bonfires, pumpkin pie and crisp sunny days with colourful maple leaves adding colours to the landscape <3

100% my favourite is stuffing and gravy. Inside and outside stuffing are both great, but it has to be home-made. Add home-made turkey gravy and I'm in heaven.

I really need to make sure I get the recipes for all of these from my mom and try it myself one day. o:

Aw, thanks so much for having this contest! That's very sweet of you! <3

Thanksgiving has normally been one of my favorite holidays, for many reasons. To start, I'm a blood descendant of THREE of the pilgrims that came over to North America on the Mayflower: William Brewster, Miles Standish, and Richard Warren. (It's a whole slew of crazy relations, as far as how they all tie together. xD) So, as far as that goes, it's pretty exciting with the family history! My family just had a reunion back in September, and we had it at Plimoth Plantation.

The other reasons, of course, being all the delicious food, and being with family. This year, however, is going to be rough. My mum passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at the end of January, so family traditions just aren't going to be happening, I think, but that's to be expected.

One tradition we had, though, was making the apple pie as a family. Mum and I would always make the dough (for the crust) from scratch; my brother and sister were in charge of peeling and chopping up the apples, and dad was always in charge of mixing everything together. Then once the apples were in the bottom crust, we'd each take a turn adding a lattice strip of dough for the top.

Sadly, I don't have a single picture of the process, but it will always be one of my favorite traditions and memories. Who knows, though; I might try to keep up with it again this year, but now have my daughter help me with the dough. ^^

Thank you again for hosting this giveaway! I've loved reading everyone's stories!

My favorite dish these days is The Mean Green and I will explain it this way:

Aunt Beatrice ( yes, I had an Aunt Bea ) was a vegetarian for very strict religious reasons, and so the only contribution she could make to the dinner with a clear conscious was her spinach casserole It consisted of one package of frozen spinach and a can of cream of mushroom soup. (and I have no idea if it is truly vegetarian or not) topped with french fried onions from a can. It was horrible. But it was green and added color to an otherwise 'brown' plate of turkey, gravy, mashed taters, stuffing and yams. Nobody ate it which was OK, because you only needed a teaspoon to liven up the color pallet. That one small box of spinach went a long way.

Now, it's our turn to do the meal., Aunt Be a is long passed away and it's time to modernize the menu. The Mean Green is a recipe from Guy Fieri and it uses fresh green beans, red bell pepper, porcini mushrooms, onion, bacon, a butter roux sauce, panko and onion rings from Foster's Freeze. It is so fresh, the flavor is so bold, and it's got green in it. No more soggy green beans, no more green bean and mushroom soup. and no more spinach glop. Sorry Aunt Bea, it's not vegetarian.

Yes, I am a role-playing character, but I don’t bite (much.)

My favorite Thanksgiving food it homemade chicken and noddles. My mom always made the best! Even after me and my sister were grown we would all get together at mom's with our kids and such and stay over night. We stay up all night talking and catching up and at half dark thirty we were out the door to go shopping for Black Fridays. Good times! I miss my mom and ever more in times like this.

Thankgiving for me usually means heading towards my aunt's house, yummy turkey, and various desserts. As of the past few years, it's been a little more difficult cooking food for my mom to eat, as she had to stop eating gluten and dairy for health reasons. But we seem to have found the right recipes to keep everyone happy. The new challenge will be feeding my sister's girlfriend, who is vegan. We'll figure it out, somehow.

I also make mashed potato art sometimes. It's alright to play with your food if it's tradition.

What fun!

As I've gotten older I don't have the energy for a regular, full-blown holiday meal so we take bits and pieces of our old ways and tweak them. We roast a turkey breast, do the green bean casserole and stuffing and of course a decadent dessert. However sometimes we just make whatever sounds good that day... and green bean casserole!

Happy Fall!

RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

We celebrate Thanksgiving every year and all my family comes together: my parents, my two sisters and brother and my nephew and two nieces. What we always have on our table is not Turkey, we pretty much never have it and use another meat, but my favorite and it is ALWAYS on the table is potato salad, but must be done like we do it, because I don't like any but our recipe. lol We change the menu every year except for the potato salad, if there is no salad there is no Thanksgiving. haha

I was pinged twice so I have to participate XD This is very kind of you both, thanks for hosting!

I remember when I was small my dad and I would make the sevenish hour drive to my uncles house in the mountains. It was always so beautiful there in the fall and I would go on walks for hours at a time, or make up adventures in the yard. After my mom and I moved away, thanksgiving wasn't really a big deal to us, but mom would still make a turkey and stuffing and my favorite cranberry sauce ever. It went from a huge loud family deal to a very small and quiet thing. Now a days there are many family invites between all my close friends families. But this year I just want to stay in and wear pajamas all day and snuggle under the covers. -lazy-

I don't really celebrate Thanksgiving, but I do end up eating dinner with my family. My favorite "Thanksgiving" meal is probably pumpkin pie. Favorite fall activity would be taking a walk outside when the weather is cooler.
