I gave up on actually restocking from Freyalise years ago. I got lucky one year and my boss was on vacaction during Keelhauliday and left me very little to do beside babysitting the phone. I spent 3 work days, from 9am Subeta time to 5:15pm Subeta time (8.25 hours a day), haunting that shop like a Hogwarts ghost. In that 24.75 hour time frame I saw 6 restocks with items and caught exactly 0 items.
That doesn't even cover the time spent at home haunting that shop only to end up empty handed.
If I can't get what I want from OD or Carl I give it up as lost.
I'm in the very very VERY little minority here on Subeta that actually restocks for fun. I actually enjoy the thrill of the rush when a restock comes around and you have to try and get your hands on it first. I get that it's frustrating for a lot of people, but this happens once a year, and is it really too much to ask for ONE occasion that I get to have fun?
I do agree that there needs to be a better form of getting these items for people who don't like to restock. But for me, restocking is fun. THIS type of restocking is fun for me. Now, every single holiday which used to restock from the Holiday Shop has been turned into something else. Subq has its own currency now too which I don't really like, mostly because I don't get enough of those dumb invitations. And, quite frankly, holidays have been a little boring for me. Because everything is here. Buying from those shops is my least favourite thing during other holidays.
All I want is to have one remaining holiday where I could actually compete for stuff to grab :( There should be another way to get the items, like maybe have a pirate other than Carl give specifically these items away for his/her quests, but leave the restocking there :(
ia with this. I don't really play on Subeta much anymore, but I used to enjoy RSing for the brief time I did it. I think it's great to have a holiday that features RSing, and I don't think the FTC needs to become some sort of perma-shop or special currency shop just because other people don't like it. RSers, battlers, questers, everyone should have holidays they enjoy. But, I also think it would be better if there were more options for people to get items.
Right now you either RS or get lucky doing one set of quests or vend. What if next year some of the holiday items made it into the quest shop for the week, and you had a chance to buy them with quest points? Or you had a chance to win a random item from battling, or fishing, or various other activities? Maybe Babette is teaching the cubs to read and each book you read to a pet has a chance to earn you a holiday prize? I mean, there's lots of other things people could do besides RS or quest, and more variety means more players can find something they like doing to get prizes.
Every single holiday used to be restocking focused (holiday shop), and this is the only real one remaining. Let us have our single holiday.
I'm not opposed to introducing new ways to get the Freyalise items, but only so long as it's in limited enough qualities so they maintain a similar value. Common items should be fairly cheap, rare items should be just that - rare. Staff already made it easier to get a hold of the items by throwing them in Carl's quest rotation - if you don't like restocking, you can still get the items without it.

Sorry if I'm repeating something already in this thead, but wanted to add my voice ... Screw the Freyalise Trading. It's impossible to restock from unless you're refreshing every 2 seconds, and just overall stupid.
My proposal, keep Frealise Trading, with all of the possible pirate items being sold, and create a side shop similar to those in Shengui Guo. So, this side shop would offer ~3 items a day, at extremely high prices that you could purchase. Or perhaps you could only get 1 of the 3 a day. That way everyone actually gets a chance to purchase these items if they're willing to shell out. (And hey, sp sink!)
Seriously, this holiday is all we have left. Let it be :( RSing at the shop isn't even that hard. I put on the TV and watch a show while rf on the shop until I see the items pop up my peripheral. 8/10 times I catch 2-3 things. And I have a terribly slow internet connection/old comp. 2/10 times i was too into my show to notice the rs quickly enough. So grabbing items out of the shop is totally doable, with effort.
I don't think the shop needs to change or we need a currency. The only thing the staff could comprise with doing is to increase the amount of items each rs or lower the rs time.
SELL ME FOOD PLS? 🡺 CLICK HERE 🡸I would definitely like a change to the shop.. would welcome about anything that would allow me to buy a little or even see what is in it besides the usual blank. I actually saw 4 things gasps....(it was so quick I couldn't register what I saw), in the shop. This has been once since it opened.. click "This item is sold" click "This item is sold" or something similar...rinse and repeat. I wonder what it was that was sold... did I even want whatever?
Is this fun? Nah.. at least not for me.
What is fun about the event? Wearing last year's pirate costumes that I could find cheaper when the event is over.. and trying to get something from Carl. I used to LOVE the mystery box also until that was changed.
PS I almost forgot how fun the holiday shop was... at least you could ignore how terrible this shop was...
Wait hold on.. , you can vend for Freyalise? Which vending machine? :o
Ocean Depths in the Omen Islands has a chance of giving out Freyalise items :)
Ocean Depths gives out Freyalise items.
As for this matter in general, I used to enjoy RSing in this site, and Freyalise is literally the only thing left for restockers after all the changes to RS rates, several shops including SubQ, and the complete removal of the Holiday Shop. I really miss the challenge of these, and I would be upset if Freyalise was removed.
I do agree that there should be more ways for non-RSers to get at the items, and I like 's sp-sink idea in particular!
Team 'Keep It' here. I'm lucky to be a European, I s'pose, so it's less competitive in the mornings and you can grab 2 - 3 items per restock (he says, missing everything in the latest one), with a restock at least once every 15 minutes. But even then, the items aren't really expensive. Most new wears are clocking in under 1m already, with some collectables hitting just above that.
Staff haven't caved yet and I thank them for letting restockers have a holiday to enjoy/shine.
I am actually really surprised at how quickly everything is deflating - usually it takes a lot longer for things to get below 1m. I think Carl's generosity may have been increased this year compared to previous years?

I always forget Carl gives stuff out, ugh. I know it's in the news post but I see pirate talk and my eyes just glaze over. It'd be nice if he was in the sidebar as well.
Last year I had more luck RSing even with not trying crazy hard. This year I've tried less and succeeded a lot less. RSes seem smaller too. Possible I'm just catching them that half-second later, but were a lot of the old items not unretired, perhaps? Even when I was having more luck it really wasn't 'profit' vs 'actually being able to trade for what I need/old year's stuff'. Which I was ok with. Any profit was a plus.
I wouldn't mind things being changed up some. Longer time period, more frequent RSes for that shop, larger RSes. Possibly some kind of daily or additional task to have a chance to get some items (only previous years depending on how difficult it is, possibly), etc. It might be neat if it could be somehow more individualized... not literally individual but x groups out of the active users seeing different RS rates, to tamper competition some without flooding or cutting rates too badly as a result.
Not sure. I know I don't want it to go total static sP sink shop. Ugh, no. Not fun. Even with the 'timed' aspect of The Brewery. Nooo.
I got a map from Blue Sky. So that vends too. Seen people on SB say they've gotten the beanbags from there.
I remember the Holiday Shop well, and all the new items that came out for each holiday. But I also remember watching the shoutbox during those holidays and seeing some complain how they couldn't get certain items they wanted from it. I'm seeing some of the same thing with the only remaining holiday shop now, the FTC. Basically, doesn't seem like too much has changed even with the loss of the official Holiday Shop. People are trying to get as much as they can before the shop closes. In the case of the Holiday Shop, it was a rush to get things before the holiday ended and it was replaced by new stuff.
That said, I'm not really a big RSer for a number of reasons. Plus, there's very few items I want for myself from the FTC and I find that it's difficult to resell items I simply buy for my shop because they depress quickly. And I know I'm not the only one who feels like that, after reading these comments. But I do agree it would be more interesting to add an extra event or two besides just RSing the FTC, for those who aren't big on doing RSing.
As for the anniversary thing for this year that was mentioned earlier, there was a plot going on at that time. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised they released any items at all for it this year, considering that.

I'm not saying turn Freyalise into something like ... Wesley's (is that his name? The outdoor guy...) shop. While shops like that are nice, it also means I don't buy until I need. It doesn't really encourage buying. And we certainly don't need another currency floating around.
I'm not a restocker. The values just never stick in my head and I don't keep track of the market. That said, I could still get 80% of what I needed/wanted via restocking when the Holiday Shop was around. Freyalise is a whole different ball game. I'll be here 7 years in December, and I can count on my fingers and toes the numbers of times I've actually seen items stock in Freyalise and on one hand alone for the numbers of items I've managed to buy from it.
I'm not saying take away the RS factor, I'm just asking for another small opportunity or two to earn those items.
Maybe something like one of the rats in the galley was running away with a Freyalise item and Angrybeard lets you keep the item the rat had instead of taking food from the pantry when you catch it.
Or maybe the cubs are fussy and Babette asks you to play with them while she's throwing Carl out again or something. As a reward she gives you a piece of backstock from Freyalise. Maybe this could be a location bound RE. Like you can only get it if you're wandering around Port Plunder.
Or maybe a chance to swap items with Carl. Not like his normal quest, no. This would happen after you completed his normal quests. He could be "Hey, I see you've got a -item here-. I've been looking for one of those." and he offers you a chance to swap for a different item. Like the Oracle quests. Maybe it could pop up via an RE too. And you'd have to accept or decline the offer before you're eligible for a new one. (Edit to add: Or he could change his mind mid-transaction and give you back the same item with a message along the lines of "Not what I thought it was" or "Nah, I've change my mind".)
Or during a fishing trip we could haul up a piece of stock that fell overboard while the pirates were coming in to dock.
Or maybe add the option to Dirty Matty's drinking game to pass up the sP reward and rummage through his pockets instead. You could find sP (of greater or lesser amount than the prize you pass over), a Freyalise item, one of his normal item(s?) (like his plushie), or you could find nothing at all and leave empty handed. This option would only be available during Keelhauliday.
I'm running out of "or maybe"s. D: Freyalise is all about chance. I understand that, and I don't want to do away with it. None of the suggestions I've come up with would be a guarantee, just like the alternatives we have now. The rats can still have nothing with them, Babette may never ask you for help, you may not have anything Carl wants bad enough to ask for, fishing has always been a gamble, and you may leave Matty's completely empty-handed.
Small things, but the opportunity would be there.
As someone who actually enjoys restocking, I still say change it. It's not fun when you can't get even one darn thing, and it's really not fun when all the refreshing kills the site. Way I see it, I can restock any day. Holidays are supposed to be special, give us something that's not an everyday thing!
I'm going to second everything that just said. Fantastic ideas.
It let's the shop remain, keeping the rs-people happy, while simultaneously giving some love to Port Plunder and providing another outlet for items.
I'm really happy you said this, because this is what I was coming to say.
You can restock every single day, it doesn't go away with the Freyalise, and while restocking can be enjoyable, an entire holiday to benefit restockers is at most iffy? Like, do venders and fraggers get 10 days of an event where they can make mad money via vending or fragging? Questers have the quest-a-thon, and even then, you can do one quest and get all the rewards, all of them. So, even questers don't really have an holiday to themselves.
I know Subeta hates change. But, I'd rather have something to do in Port Plunder, something that's actually part of pirate lore over having a restocking holiday.
Of course, it's fun for some people. But, I'd rather have something that's less polarizing. Right you, you love or you hate the Freyalise, you are excited or you dread Keelhauliday.
Boring and practical over polarizing every day, baby!
It seems that very few people restock from the main shops on ordinary days. I often take a wander round them picking up rares and super rares that are just sitting there.
I was able to get things from Freyalise this year because we've now got 100 mb broadband. If I'd had to rely on the alternatives I'd have been thoroughly fed up. Out of 15 Carl quests today I got three worthless items from previous years. Vending at Ocean Depths hasn't given me much either.
Did I enjoy getting a nice haul this year? No, because I had to spend a lot of time refreshing in the shop near restock times and this isn't my idea of a lot of fun. I feel sorry for everyone who has tried their hearts out to restock stuff only to end up with nothing.
I noticed over and over from the RSer's about how it's 'not that hard' and just takes time and practice. But the fact is, is it's not just about that. If it were purely about that I'd be more okay with this shop. But it's not. It favors the users with the fastest internet connection. If you're like me, you're dealing with satellite internet. And things that come in- go in less than 4 seconds in a shop; plain and simple I'm never getting them. Even if I manage to see them in the time time it took to load the page to even show me the items; they were already gone. That's not fun for me. That's frustrating. I want to be able to buy from the shop but I think some sort of tweak has to be made.
Even if it's just making sure more items are present each restock and the shop restocks at regular intervals (Every 5 minutes maybe?), and then put a purchase cap. I've heard of some RSer's managing to get 3 items on a single restock. I'd rather there be something like 1 item every 5 minutes or something like that. That way you get one item per restock. Or even just that; a limit of one item per restock so you aren't getting a handful of people buying all the restock.
I'd enjoy this holiday a whole hell of a lot more if it were actually skill based and not just how fast your internet connection is. (I understand it's more than just that but I think internet speed is a hell of a lot bigger part than people give it credit for.)
Case and point; I've done holidays like this with a faster internet in the past. I didn't love them, but at least I could do them; at least I felt like I had a chance and I would get something now and then. But there is no chance if your net isn't fast enough.
