Nobody wants it easily. We want it to be fun, and to actually make an holiday feel like...an holiday
Why do people automatically assume that by asking for a change in the shop, we just want everything handed to us? There's having difficulty in obtaining things, and then there's this shop, where it's near impossible. That isn't fun. At all. Especially if you just want to snag, like, 3 things. The chances of catching a restock for the thing you want, plus actually getting said thing, is pretty slim. I'm all for having a degree of difficulty, but after all these years, this just seems ridiculous anymore. There can be a change without having items handed to us.
Also, people seem to think that a week of open/limited buying at a shop will make everything worth 1 sp. That's just not the case. This shop isn't here year round. If there's some sort of purchase cap or something that keeps people from just buying a million of the same item, the items will still hold value. After this week, you can't purchase them again. I don't understand the hate against change.
Some want it easy, stocking like go outside wouldn't be fun its being handed the item as long as you have sp. I find the challenge of getting it fun personally and who knows last year they gave the FTC stuff away in the free shop after the event ended.
I don't want a SP shop like Go Outside, I want something that's going to encourage the userbase to use Port Plunder, which is why I want a pirate currency (we don't have one because ??????)
Like, you can have a permanent shop, but with that new pirate currency, you are going to HAVE to do something around Port Plunder. It would make the area actually relevant, because it could totally use love! Like, one shop, a quest and two other things. That really is little, and I want Keelhauliday to be more than "pirate stuff in a shop and that's it"
Right now, yeah, having Keelhauliday be a restocking shop is only fun for restockers, and...it doesn't feel like an holiday. Keelhauliday really need a serious overhaul.
I'm not saying I wouldn't mind additions but the shop is fine as it is for me. I even help a few people get what they are looking for if I can. But to me its no different than most of the time when a battle is released they put a book on the hardest opponent. As a book collector I want the book but I can't expect the fights or drops to change cause I don't have time to train my pet to fight
I, for one, want everything handed to me on a golden platter. A platter covered in golden filigree and encrusted with rubies.
Seriously though, while I am for this being a month long shop, I am not for it being a year-round shop. It's based off of a one-day event where people talk like a pirate.
I wouldn't mind seeing some changes made. I DO like that Carl still has a chance to give out items, that has been a saving grace for me since I have had some crummy luck restocking. Vending these items from time to time has been nice too. But yes overall a change to the holiday even only a slight change would be alright with me.
Couldn't have said it better.

Fighting has changed over time, actually, by making training easier, introducing autotraining, and making some boosters permanent in stock. Fighting is a lot more accessible that it used to be.
Even boss battles now give loot to the top 10 in each tier, instead of just being for the strongest and hardest damage hitters.
So yes. People were unhappy, they asked for changes, and changes were made.
I honestly hate this shop and I usually just ignore the holiday all together. The only reason I've restocked items this time at all is because I just happen to have a week off in between two different jobs and have had really bored down time. Also things like "Restocked 23 minutes ago" make it even more frustrating. 23 minutes of refreshing for 4 seconds of possible items that I will most likely miss? How is this even fun?
Actually I wonder if it would be even possible to put the shop on it's own restocking timer... 5-10 minutes per restock 15 at the most if it's very late.
And I could just as easily flip that to say Battling is only fun for battlers. I'm sorry that to you this doesn't feel like a holiday, but to me it does. I end up participating in battles because i'm a book hound....and lots of the loot is expensive. It does not drop in price very fast for the higher difficulty challengers. And that isn't fun when you like to read to all your pets, but I deal. Other people enjoy it. So I try. I fail a lot XD ... and flail around and people are kind enough to help me, but I try. Or I skip that part of the goings on. Restocking is a skill that only takes some time, a little luck and a lot of focus. I could do it even when I had a dinosaur computer. I don't need a big pet or the right set or have to know what bloody icons I have to block or use to make enough wins for a drop happen. I can do it with a T1, with a crap set, with a bare handful of sps in the bank. I don't need to be rich or have anything really special, just me. Please keep in mind most of the older freya books (the ledgers, how to wear an eyepatch, some of the maps) I did a spot check of them, but those I looked up were in the 200k up to the 900k range. That's not too horrible, for being out a couple years. And while yes, new players will still find that's a little expensive, they would find battling even more so. My last point is they did actually change Rsing too...they eliminated the captcha. I am not saying they couldn't add some other facet to engage other people...but I would be really unhappy if they decided to eliminate one of the last fast-paced really fun shops to Rs in to do it.
...I've always pictured Freyalise stocking as Annabelle throwing a pile of booty on the floor and us all jumping into the fray...exactly like a bunch of ragtag, ill-mannered pirates, may the fastest, sneakiest, most skillful win. ^.^
[edit] My brain is broke'd. I should be in bed. Please forgive all spelling, grammer and other stupid brain-glitch mistakes. XD I tried to correct them..and then correct them again, but I probably missed something. Or multiple somethings. =0P
Do you have a rare item that just won't sell? Are you going through the high levels of Item Hunt? Or maybe you just HATE that blue bunny? Then you should join IHH helpers and IHH bargain in the forum groups!
tbh 2016 had a lot of really underwhelming holidays (lmao, the 12th anniversary tho.) and seeing Keelhauliday being reduced to ten days of restocking and nothing else is boring. One-trick pony holidays are not fun. Even 2015 wasn't that fun, with morostide having terrible item distribution, really. Fireside was cool because Harvest Potion, and Luminaire was eh. Not that memorable compared to 2014.
Like, I'm really underwhelmed about Alegarten, because it's just "buy items from this terribly planned shop also all items pretty much look the same lol sausages"
So yeah, sorry I'm not super excited about an holiday where there is one whole thing to do, when the holiday before sucked (Talking about the 12th anniversary, can we all admit it sucked) and the holiday after is one of my least favorite ones.
Really, there are three holidays crammed in a six week period, and two of them were duds so far. I'd rather have quality over quantity, at this point.
i'm not interested in arguing about rs-only shops vs perma-stocking shops or how 1 holiday item per 100 items from vending and maybe 4 items in 15 quests is or is not a reasonable bandaid for people who don't have the time or inclination to rs. i don't even care that the shop clears out in under 30 seconds or that the cute things are expensive and whatever else is dirt cheap, because supply-demand.
i just want to say that when i gather the spoons necessary to try and restock from this place, watching the counter go from "Restocked 2 minutes ago" to "Restocked 21 minutes ago" is the single most annoying thing on the face of this earth. [small](shh, let me have my hyperbole, ok, i know it's just pixels.)[/small]
I agree with Sopheroo . Restockers have a permanent challenge trying to get something from SBQ. I caught a restock not long ago but only 3 items came in. I'll probably try again later but I'd much rather be earning a special currency through various site activities.
I wouldn't mind it as much if the site would stop crashing and 502ing all the time, making me miss restocks.
I think it's fine the way it is. It fits in with lore about pirates selling you things in a shop. Making quests give out dubloons instead wouldn't really fit the lore better imo (all of subeta now has access to dubloons, eh :s).
Sure, it can be "boring," but do we really need labor intensive holidays so soon in a row? I know I like breathers between major holidays. I like the variety and let's be frank, this is the only big restocking oriented event. I know people who primarily restock on subeta. Like that's what they do for income / fun. They shouldn't have the one big restocking event taken away from them just because it's not as easy as questing or a shop a la go outside. I wouldn't alter the shop for a cookie cutter questathon anyway.
And I don't really mind anniversary being the way it is this year. No annoying floating items? Score. Everything is going to pale in comparison to the big 10th we had anyway. It's an anniversary, not a reason to have a plot or 10 day questathon or holiday.
I don't really mind keeping the restocking element of the shop as I do enjoy restocking, but I do agree that waiting and waiting only for the shop to restock 5 items or so gets kind of monotonous, especially since they go so fast you have to click on the first thing you see whether it is what you want or not if you want a chance at anything. I really love the idea of haggling with pirates, especially since we've done away with codes and haggling in regular shops. It'd still be competitive, but at least it'd be interactive and make sense from a "plot-line" angle.
...
I think it's fine as it is. Yeah ok SBQ is a "challenge" for RSers, but I personally have no interest in sitting waiting for stuff to RS there - I like the Freyalise for those 10 days each year, where I can attempt (and quite often fail :P) to RS stuff. Then after those 10 days, I can switch back to a more laid back way of playing Subeta :P
In fact, this year I've actually been more successful at RSing in the Freyalise (despite not having a faster connection speed than last year), and it's proving quite fun to refresh and click quickly in the hopes of nabbing those last few TC items I need ;)
Certain "holidays" appeal to different people - Alegarten's style of shop isn't my favourite, but I shop there specifically because I have treasure chests that need all-the-alcohol. Trick-or-treating might not be my favourite pastime, in the same way that others absolutely hate the idea of battling - others love doing that, so just because there's people who are finding the Freyalise annoying, shouldn't mean that gets changed to either a go outside style shop or a permanent currency shop (while the idea of a pirate currency sounds good, I really don't think we need yet another currency on the site!).
The fact that it is a short-term shop does fit in with the storyline of the ship only being at Port Plunder for a few days of time - I can't imagine them wanting to stay there all year round just to sell us stuff.... I mean there's all that looting and pillaging they need to do the rest of the year!
