- no, it doesn't show us oldest to newest. And after discussing this with the programmer this week, there doesn't seem to be a way to easily make them show from oldest to newest because the nomination isn't tied to a date.

Older pets haven't been looked at for a while (or, a lot of them haven't) because we haven't had the resources - with what we had, we were able to review a percentage of the pets in the queue every so often, enough to keep the queue going. It was this or close this down completely, which would back it up even more. Our programmer has been working on several large projects over the months, and was unable to work on the spotlight. I'd held off on accepting too many pets as I wanted the tag system. It got to the point recently where I just said 'guys, we need to go through this queue, it's too big' and then suddenly a small pocket of programmer time was made available, I put a stop to the denials and we are getting the programming that we require.

And these fixes are happening at the moment, they are what our programmer is currently doing. Pets will be reviewed/denied with reasons again soon, and will do so until the queue is cleared. I have put our resources onto this project to get it sorted now.

Just a note - if you edit a pet that's in the review queue, it won't be kicked out completely. I encourage the editing of pets. That will not get you kicked out of any queue completely. (The re-review queue is very easy to look at and re-add the pet.)

Well, I'd edit a pet in one of the queues that I know has been missing an image credit but, does anyone know how to fix the issue of the coding being messed up on the edit profile page? Unless I completely rework the profile to figure out what is what I can't edit anything. I actually have this issue with a few of my profiles. It doesn't help that I really don't understand the coding.

It's not my fault at all over this. I haven't been able to edit the profile for some time now because of the whole being nominated and not knowing where it stands.

The one in the queue I'm having trouble with is Sir Rodney. I'm pretty sure it's something that's simple to fix but I can't make heads or tales over what's been messed up. I tried changing things on a different profile and made things worse. lol This happened back when some site wide coding was changed I believe.

I think Creator Destroyer has some of the coding messed up as well but I don't think I have anything I need to fix on her profile.

The other few I can just wipe the profiles and re-enter the text since they don't have profiles.

- he looks perfect to me, great layout, everything looks to be in place. The background is a little dithered but it's not so bad as to be overly noticeable! The text all looks fine. I don't think you need to do anything to him!

Thanks! Ah, but I'm missing the background credit. The coding issue is only on the edit profile page (the page we enter the coding in). There's some lines here and there that have part of the coding changed. I don't know enough about profile coding to make sure I change things back to the correct coding, unless I wipe and start over.

I lucked out with nothing getting changed on the actual profile.

- oh I see what you're saying! Oh huh, that's happened to a few of mine too. I knew it was happening with some of the text, I didn't realise it had happened with coding too.

Ok, looking at this, it appears that three things have been changed/messed up. A '<' bracket has been changed to '<' (minus the hyphens there), and the '>' bracket has been changed to ">' and lastly quotation marks " have been changed to '"' - if you use a text editor, you can find every instance of these and do find/replace to get them back to what they're supposed to be.

Try copying the entire profile, making the changes in an external editing program (like textedit or google docs or something) and then testing it out on another pet! Does that make sense?

I'm honestly baffled as to why spotlight judging and management hasn't been turned over to a team of volunteers at this point??? Sure you'd get accusations of favoritism, but those already happen anyway especially with how badly you guys have managed this. These issues have been going on for literally YEARS with nothing but the patented Subeta Soon in response.

I mean, hell, why do the programmers need to code a form for this? Why can't the judge just c+p a damn form into a sMail message/ staff ticket/ whatever? Or forget the form entirely, just send a message saying what's wrong with the profile.

While there's a list of things staff look for when judging pets, from the user side this is obviously frustratingly opaque (due to the lack of reasoning for denials, the lack of consistency between winners, etc.). And then "difficult" pets get booted to the back of the judging queue, leaving people with fanpets or longer stories SoL anyway. And users don't know which queue they're in, or even whether or not they're allowed to fix problems?

Why haven't steps been taken to add resources? Back in May (of 2015!!!!), users suggested having Mini Mods assist with the judging. said she liked that idea:

I like the idea of minimod(s) moderation, too. Food for thought!

And yet, no change. In over a year. Just the same excuses.

Also, back in January you posted this:

I do think the rules need some adjustments and clarifications as it is, and there are a lot of pets that could do with some better crediting to make the process a lot smoother for both parties.
That requires no programming. So, where is the progress there?

I find it rather demoralizing that we are told repeatedly that the resources are not in place to improve a very neglected existing feature... But in the past year we have seen brand new features like the Bakery added. A feature that required both new coding and new artwork. But there is no time for rules to be adjusted or ANY real progress being made on the pet spotlight?

That's disappointing. Are there plans to change this? Because if you're only reviewing "a percentage of the pets in the queue every so often," then not having them chronologically ordered makes it really easy to continually skip over pets and leave them in review purgatory.

Just retroactively give all pets already in the queue a really old date, and start recording the dates that new nominations come in. That alone should solve several issues people are having.

- Thank you very much for the reply. I assumed that only the winner's queue was set up to be random... not that the time stamping for nominations simply didn't exist at all for any of the queues. That definitely makes sense (not good, but it makes sense). I know that there is probably no time to add a time stamp feature right now, but maybe this could be added to the "Pet Spotlight To-Do List"? I think it would be cool if we could also see what dates our pets are nominated on the nomination page. Like, instead of just seeing "Nominated" in parentheses, we could see "Nominated - 7/21/16". Would be nice for keeping track easier. I won't reiterate the problems with the lack of resources, since many of us have already done so. But I am glad to hear that pets aren't kicked out of the review queue if they are edited (unless they are marked for denial). Though I am still hesitant to make the edits, I will try to make some time in the next day or two to do so. Hopefully I won't regret the decision.

I think at least once on boards like this I've volunteered myself to be The Pet Spotlight Person. I spend hours on this site every night, I could totally dedicate time almost every day to looking at the queue.

Idk just as a pet person I'm so frustrated it's to the point where I'm that person that goes JUST GIVE ME THE CONTROLLER

It's very annoying to see new features rolled out (wtf even is baking do people even use it anymore) while continually, pet-related things (which are why most users thatve been here for a few years even joined in the first place) are just put on the back burner because "no resources".

I definitely get that Subeta hasn't got a big team or extra finances to take on All Projects All The Time. It's a small site for how long its been around. I can only hope the pet spotlight feature gets into the schedule of things to fix/prioritize sometime soon, though I wouldn't mind if we got a working wardrobe first. At least it's nice to see staff respond directly about certain problems, which I appreciate a lot.

My opinion may not be well received by some, but I have been so totally frustrated by the Pet Spotlight that I think if it can't be improved, it should be removed totally and just allow people to vote up on their pet profiles.

A pet site should either have a working, functional spotlight, or not have one. The first thing that needs to be done is rules. As mentioned, I have had five-six nominations and the same amount arbitrarily kicked off with not even a notification. I have also had more then that in suggestions of what is "wrong" and why the profile was kicked off i.e. most seem as confused as me. YET this same profile of Ninger follows all the rules!

Hence my suggestion:

 1. Take away the "Nomination by others or if continue it allow people to ask others to nominate.. even have a forum possibly. "Nominate or discuss the problem"

 2. No kicking of a profile from the spotlight if it follows all written rules without a detailed explanation. Otherwise allow to stay, this prevents any favoritism and someone kicking one off because it is not their idea of what is "good". If it doesn't follow the written rules that is a simple thing to say.

 3. If staff can't handle a basic pet area of the site, suspend the operation entirely or get a set of volunteers to help with it. I believe someone mentioned mini-mods. Surely there are others willing... get a list.

Just for the outside view: As someone who's thought about toying with the pet spotlight (don't look at my pets they're all gawd awful old like since I joined and need revamped big time just ugh) for a long time, but always been pretty discouraged by the issues I hear with it: I am still pretty damn discouraged unless these fixes really come to pass.

Between this and the increasing quality of profile that seems to be required (means spending more sP or more likely real money/real money equivalent for the areas I don't feel comfortable with) I remain strongly at my default setting: forget that.

Venturing or attempting to venture outside my comfort zone on Subeta has been an experience in frustration in too many areas. I can't imagine how someone getting into those for the first time/without the benefit of at least having been on the site must feel.

This seems like a very reasonable solution. Considering how many other features have dates tied to them, I assume at least one staffer knows how to add that coding to features, so (based on what I understand from the tech people at my job) copy the basic coding, tweak as needed for the nomination date, test, apply, post-live date test. Happier userbase.

Hopefully, we'll see an improvement in queue spotlight times being reduced. I have yet to do anything for any of my pets...

It's a shame to see that there hadn't been a staff dedicated to the pet spotlight prior to 's post. Or there was one and they quit.

I see the rules/guidelines for CWs have been updated. Since CWs generate income it's logical to have staff dedicated to that and advances being made to the process.

That said, updating the rules/guidelines for the pet spotlight would not cost anything but time, I hope some day soon or (or both?? not sure if one of them is in charge of this???) can find the time to at least update the pet spotlight rules and guidelines soon
