I do think the light source is better, but I'm wondering if the scene in the port hole is what's holding you back now, since it looks incredibly cartoony? Maybe that part might need to look a little more realistic? (I'm not 100% sure honestly because I still don't know what the item is representing and if that makes sense or not.)

I don't think the lines in the bg of the item need to be the exact same shape as the ones in the wearable. As long as there is a 'wavy shape' I think it's just fine. I think if you did some slightly more detailed water, that would look a lot better :)

I can't really tell honestly. It kind of just looks really foggy and unclear now, but the same as it was before instead of realistic or more detailed if that makes sense. With my prior suggestion, I was thinking the water might need to be more detailed like it looks in one of these bgs;

I'm not really sure how more to provide you assistance. My previous advice still applies. You may need to start the water from scratch instead of trying to keep what you already have and just adding more lines to it.

^ My most recent submission was already relined and recolored from scratch. I really don't think it needs to be redone from scratch a second time. Im failing to see where the shading is an issue.

I did make a small edit (I did not submit this file) just to try to show even more variation between the tones but this is by no means me starting over like that was suggested.

Forgive me, I'm very tired and not feeling well but I'm going to try haha.

I think (I could be wrong, this is just what I think I'm seeing) is that your shading 'steps' are too close together. This often comes from pillow shading, but sometimes not.

Here is a super rough example of what I mean:

In the first one I shaded in 'steps' and each 'step' looks the exact same. Even though you can clearly see the steps, it still looks like a gradient, rather than shading. In the second one, I've made each 'step' different so that the object has more dimension. (each shade or highlight hits a different part of your item, not all the same parts.)

Thank you for your response! I do see what you mean when it comes to the CI. This is not how it was originally shaded I only shaded it like this because they kept saying it was soft shaded and I didn't know what they meant :/ So now that I understand what is meant by gradient I can definitely go back and edit that.

But the overlay definitely does not suffer from that issue. Here is the working size for the overlay:

They are saying that this is also soft shaded/gradient shaded. Based on the example you gave, I really don't think that this is the case.

The overlay is less pillow shaded for sure, but it still has the same problem, especially on the main bag. One side of the bag is very bright. Then there is a very thin 'level' of the main color down the center, and then it's very dark. I think there needs to be more difference in your shading.

(I will also say, seeing it up close, It looks like each color and part is shaded individually and not as a whole. The markings / eyes don't follow the same shading pattern as the rest of the piece. They're just shaded light/dark and it doesn't flow with anything.)

I received a denial and I understand everything that needs to be fixed, but one thing. It mentions I didn't put any references down. How can I add a reference to something, when I didn't reference anything when I drew it. Unless you count buns, sci-fi and a bit of fantasy. But that's rather vague. Or should I have referenced those? I confused.

Hi there! Could i see what the item is? It is possible that the lack of reference may make it sound like there is supposed to be one. I think it’s just harder to assume that none was used when it wasn’t explicitly mentioned!

In your next submission, you could post general inspiration moods and indicate that none was used as a direct reference (but rather that you based yourself off an aesthetic).

What do you need help with I mostly need help with the item image as that seems to be the only thing that was denied. This is my first CW so I genuinely do not know the terms, therefore I could be completely wrong there. I scrapped the old CI entirely because of the amount of issues but still would appreciate some tips.
