( Since apparently nobody knows what to pick, I'll give you guys until THURSDAY to choose :P Maybe mingle with the others in your groups for an answer, or I could always set up an OOC thread to discuss tactics o: Comment/sMail me if you guys would like an OOC thread!)
(sorry, the quest thingy, July 4th, and work got me all distracted. Finally a post)
Wesley - (B...?) () "Circe?," Wes felt shifting on his back and stopped. Carrying her had been a bit easier thanks to the carrier that Isabella suggested. Of course, he was still tired. And still pretty hungry. He was actually beyond fatigue. The young man crouched down to let Circe onto the ground. "How are you feeling?," he asked and then looked to Isabella.
() "Do you have any idea where we are?," Wes asked. He had mostly been aimlessly walking. In the beginning, he had a good sense of the direction they were going, but now, he wasn't so sure. It was dark and he was feeling a bit light-headed and disoriented, to be honest. "We really need to find food," he sighed. "Maybe we should make camp for a bit? That gunshot sounded pretty far away. I think we have at least a few hours."
((Sorry, my house is kind of a zoo right now, I have two extra kids right now))
Choice B
( )Isabelle looked at the girl when Wesley set her down, and then at him, "I'm not sure where we are other than this forest. If we can find moss anywhere, that way would be north. I think we should go up higher to try to get some rest though. The trees look strong enough to support us all for a while." She had tensed a bit at hearing the gun shot. "If they are that strong too, after rest we should try to move that way? So we leave no footprints..."
( Today's the last day to make your choices, you all! I know this long weekend was probably hectic for a lot of you, so I hope this extra time helped you guys out a little ^_^ Choose wisely, everyone!)
Circe (B) ( ) Circe awoke to a pounding headache. To her shock the two who she had met before were still there. Even more shock was the fact that they seemed to have carried her. Still feeling weak, she sat up slowly to avoid getting dizzy. She listened quietly as they discussed just what to do now. "It all sounds good to me." She muttered weakly. "As long as we can get away from the woman...."
Dee (B) () Dee turned to the woman following along with her. "What now?" she asked her, although perhaps she was also asking herself. "I don't think leaving the forest is a good idea for now. So, do we keep going to build distance and possibly lose our way or find a place to camp up high?" Dee frowned deeply as she considered both options. "What's your opinion?"
Aika thought to herself, considering her options carefully. She liked the idea of being high up for a vantage point but she also didst like the idea of having no escape and being trapped.
"Perhaps we should double back and leave a criss-crossed trail to throw her off. Well, she might be too good a tracker for that. I want to have a good view to see her coming for us, butI also don't want to be trapped in a high place with no escape. Either way having the madame see us means instant death.
Dee (B) <2nd part> () "Then let's go up high. It'll be harder for her to aim up high, especially at night. If we're quiet, it'll be good cover." Dee sighed. "As much as I'd like to try and out walk her, I've been proven wrong at that once before...and in this darkness, there's no telling where we'd end up. I'd rather not run smack into her." She wandered towards a cluster of trees. "Let's get climbing."
( Wow, everybody chose the same thing :P Makes it easier for me! Also, sorry for the late post. For some reason my workplace decided to have me work 46 hours this week x_x You have until Wednesday to make your choices! This is the last day you need to survive, the ferry comes the following morning!)
Your group sets up a rough camp in the tree canopies and you all take a well deserved rest, each taking a shift on alert to make sure nobody was coming their way. It was surprisingly quiet. You wonder if Aldridge was really as cunning as you thought she was. Surely she would have suspected that somebody went in the forest, right? Your mind frees of worry as you collect the morning dew from the large leaves overhead. Thanks to the remarkably damp atmosphere of the forest, and the fact that Aldridge was nowhere nearby, you were able to collect enough water to keep yourself hydrated for at least another day. You almost felt happy as you grabbed a few wet leaves to clean yourself with- almost.
Sunrise came and went, and once you and your partners were well rested and hydrated it was time to think about food. Aika and Dee were unfortunate enough to not have any of their gear with them, but it didn't mean Dee's natural talent for science was completely useless. A few edible plants and berries were enough to keep the hunger pains at bay.
During their time together, Wes, Circe, and Isabelle weren't able to quite identify the strange flora of the forest. Very many of the botanic life were strange in appearance, especially the "sticky trees" they were resting in. Instead, Isabelle managed to scavenge some bird eggs in a nest not far away, and a trap managed to catch some unknown rodent in its grasp. Instead of making an all too obvious fire though, your team thought better to... eat the food raw. You've definitely had better days, and you gag a little on a raw egg that slides way too easily down your throat. Circe was busy as well, managing to take the bullet out of her wound and patch it up just enough to not die for the next little while.
The ferry will be here tomorrow morning, and it looks to be about 10 AM right now. You pause for a moment to think about your next actions.
You have the following choices: A. Make your way East to the ferry. By the time you get there it will be in the early afternoon, however. B. Make your way further south. You have no idea what lies on the southern coast however, or even if this forest extends that far south. C. Make your way West. The last gunshots heard were from that direction, and Aldridge wouldn't stay the whole night and morning there. Or would she?
(Since none of your ran into Aldridge you have no idea where she is, and I'm not giving any clues! Hee hee :P GOOD LUCK!)
(no idea what to pick) Wesley - (B???) Compared to the rat or whatever it was, the egg was actually easier for Wes to swallow. Still disgusting, but not something that triggered his gag reflex. He has had raw eggs before.
The man moved carefully through the branches, being extra cautious not to fall to the ground below. It was currently late morning and he had no idea what their next course of action should be. They just needed to get through today and the ferry would arrive tomorrow....if the huntress was speaking the truth. Wes stopped and turned to the ladies. "We still have a lot of time to kill...or should I say Aldridge does." He paused to look around. "We can leave the sanctuary of the forest and go camp out near where the ferry will be...or we can keep heading south. I think we should keep heading south...as south as this forest goes and spend another night in here. Wes felt protected in the trees, however strange they may be. "Then we can leave towards the ferry a couple hours before sunrise?" He looked towards his two traveling companion, unsure of what they thought about the plan.
Circe (B?) Circe looked at the man proposing the plan () and nodded. It wasn't like she had any better ideas herself. Despite the extra noise they probably made, it seemed there was a bit of safety in numbers. "Sure; I'm fine with whatever you want to do" she mumbled softly. "I'm not a good planner if that wasn't obvious enough already..." She turned to the other girl (). "What do you think? Should we try this?"
Dee (C?) Dee paused amid a group of trees to think while she waited for the other girl () who was still with her. When the other girl came to stand nearby, Dee began. "We have three directions to choose from: east, south, and west. I'm partial to one of them but I'm curious as to what you think."
"East, South, and West...Of those options, I'm not sure which is the safest, but I'm sure which one I don't want - east. We'll get there mid afternoon and have to wait until morning...at morning anyone who's still alive will arrive to try and escape. If there's an area for that woman to stalk, I'd bet on that. Why go around looking when the prey will come to you? We'll have to risk it tomorrow morning...but for now I'd rather not risk running into her there early." Dee lamented.
"That leaves south and west. I'm not sure what's south; I can't recall from the map we saw what was past the forest, if anything. The forest might go right to the water or end in a cliff or maybe there's even a little meadow there. In any case, I'm not fond of the unknown. That woman should have figured out by now that we're likely all in the forest and is plotting ahead to find us." Dee stated. "I think going back west might be our best option; I think it's highly unlikely she'd remain in that same spot for days just waiting."
She turned to stare at the sky through a gap in the leaves. "What do you think?"
(B) Isabelle looked at Wes ( ) and Circe ( ), "I think it's a good idea. We need to travel off of the ground as much as possible though, but also not completely visible from the top. Who knows if she can go aerial." She started to gather up the few things they had and put them back into her bag, "Circe, do you need help moving today or are you up for being mobile yourself?" Isabelle was happy that they had found things to eat, she knew it would have helped the girl regain some strength. She was thinking more clearly herself with a full stomach.
Circe (part 2) Circe looked at the other girl with a smile (). "As long as we don't have to run for a long distance, I think I'm good." She examined her healing leg. "It doesn't hurt as much anymore."
( OH BOY, LOTS HAPPENING TODAY! Apologies for the lateness ;o; Being overworked right now, but I did it! I had to ping you all because I can't make double posts lol.)
Wes, Circe, and Isabelle
The trio of you made your way south by the trees. It was slightly noisier than walking, but nobody fell and your journey was overall rather peaceful. The massive amount of arm and leg strength took a toll on all of you, however, and you knew it would have been faster by foot. Nonetheless, as you made your way further south, the trees began to thin ever so slightly. And then, just like that, the tree line ended abruptly a small distance away from shore. Relieved that your journey here was so nice, you sat down and took a breather. Now, all you had to do was decide what you should do next to catch that ferry tomorr-
A gunshot, followed by another, and another, and in the beginning you didn't even feel the pain as fear engulfed your body first. The lot of you fell tumbling from the trees, hitting a few branches on your way down.
"Well I'm glad somebody showed up! I was starting to think I was going to have lunch alone, hee hee.~"
You painfully sat up. A bullet pierced the middle of your torso. You tried to tell yourself this wasn't so bad, but you knew this shot was fatal. You glance over to the others and see the same. They've all been fatally shot - not enough to kill them instantly, but very soon.
"Well, since you've got the time now, I feel I should tell you why you've been so unlucky. You see, after I took out two fellows on the west shore, well I figured, why not camp out in the south for a while? Have a bite to eat and whatnot."
A silhouette danced around in the nearby brush before Miss Aldridge emerged with a malicious, victorious smile.
"You see, I didn't stay on the west shore. Do you know why? Waste of time. You all probably thought 'better put some distance between myself and that woman' right? I can't blame you; it's basic instinct. But what you three forget is that I'm not an ordinary predator. If you want to outsmart me, you have to think not about where I was, but where I might go. Out here survival is , the real game is a battle of wits. Besides around my mansion, do you know where I look first whenever I play my game? The ferry, to weed out all the people who don't deserve my time and effort. Of course, little precious here got lucky, and if it weren't for your friends you would have been long dead. Well, at least I have you now.~"
Another round of shots were fired. This time, death came quickly.
You have been killed.
Dee and Aika
Note: Aika was MIA this round so Dee's actions speak for the both of you.
Your hunch wasn't totally off. The silence of the area around matched your group's. You didn't know if it was a good or a bad thing yet, until you heard the sound of multiple gunshots to the south. So that's where she ended up going. The number of shots must've meant she found the other group. You didn't quite know how to process this. A twinge of guilt stood on your shoulders and you sat down to quietly mourn the loss of your comrades. You didn't know them well, but you wish you did. There was a troubling thought lurking in the back of your mind. Maybe... maybe you could have helped them at some point.
You jerk yourself back up on your feet. As terrible and sad as you feel, the two of you might be next. In fact, this is probably the worst situation you want to be in right now. Your hunch was correct this time, but you have absolutely no idea what to go off next. Going south now could mean directly running into her if she thinks you're west. If she is going west again, she'd definitely find the two of you camping here. If you go east she might also go east. She may need more bullets, or whatever else from her mansion after that encounter. The only relevant information you have is that she is south, and on top of that, she has up to three bodies to transport. It's also somewhere in the middle of the afternoon. Whatever you pick, you have to make sure you're secure for when night comes.
You have the following choices: A. Head South. If she goes west, at least you'll be less vulnerable in the forest than squatting where you are right now. B. Head East. The ferry comes tomorrow morning, but you still have the rest of today to survive first. C. Head North to the mansion. A less obvious but more dangerous choice if Aldridge or her men spot the two of you.
(For those still in the game, you have until WEDNESDAY to make your choice! You also don't have to stick together anymore; feel free to choose your own path! Good luck, things are getting tougher!)
(( :O Oh my! I look forward to seeing how this ends. Oh well @ being dead. I guess it's a good thing a little since I'm prepping for an SCA event and Reinhardt's 3rd birthday over the next two weeks. LOL. What can I say? I sure do love over doing it. Thanks and for being good partners for this))
Dee - B
With the memory of the gunshots still ringing in her ears, Dee considered her options. Going south had the highest probability of running into the madwoman, especially if she stayed around long enough to have the bodies collected. Staying in place was not an option...that left north and west. North would take her back to the mansion back to where those two men, and likely more, were waiting. It didn't seem like a good idea. The cell had had a camera in it, that meant it was likely all the rooms inside did too. And, possibly, the exterior perimeter of the mansion too. It wasn't a certainty but the odds that she was paranoid enough to put them up was high enough for Dee. That left west...
She hadn't wanted west last time, now it seemed like her only choice. Dee glanced over her shoulder; her companion seemed stunned and didn't even seem to notice that Dee was staring at her. With a sigh, Dee turned to west and headed off alone. One person made less noise and right now she couldn't afford to deal with a distracted companion. With the other came to her senses, maybe she would follow. Until then, Dee was alone.
Slowly she began to make her way west, trying her best to make little or no noise at all. At every sound, she scanned the area with baited breath. It might take her to night to get to the western area but she'd be ****** if she let that woman sneak up on her again. As she made her way slowly, she kept her eyes on the plants around her - anything would be useful now. Whatever it be food for her or something poisonous to try and use against that fiend. If she was caught again, she was at least going to cause some damage before she died.
Aika awoke from her stupor. Feeling stunned. She watched as her companion moved forward without her. If she wanted to be alone that was fine with her. She wanted to be as stealthy as possible and avoid that mad woman at all costs. She decided her best bet was to move south back to the forest. She wanted the cover and perhaps if kept walking she could get as far away as possible. She would not be making the same mistake with the mud again. She listened closely as she moved her way to the forest. Every twig snap and rustle had her on edge. She moved as quickly and as silently as she could further into the woods, trying to make it to the deepest part before stopping.
( The death toll rises! We have our final character fighting for survival; will she be able to make it to the ferry? :O )
Dee
(I know in your rp you mentioned going west but choice B was east, and I assume that's the direction you were going in ^_^ )
On your way to the ferry, you kept your eyes open for anything to fight off your foe with. Your lack of equipment meant that you were really nothing more than a walking target; you were completely vulnerable against her weapons if she found you. Luckily, you came across a patch of thorns on your travels to the east, and with pricked hands and fingers you carried an armful to your final destination. It was a loose patch of trees that with the cover of night would make for a good hideout until morning when the ferry arrived. All you had to do now is wait until morning and you'd be free from this horrible island and that woman.
Just as the last bit of sunshine set behind the oceanic horizon, however, a silhouetted figure rattled the branches of the nearby eastern forest edge. You knew your former travel companion better than that, and so the most probable person to creep through that forest brush was none other than that madwoman.
You clenched to your tree branch with one arm while tensely holding the thorns in the other, numb to its pain as your heart beats faster with fear. For once, the woman wasn't being cocky. She searched the area, almost as if she was unsure if there was anybody actually here. However, once she scanned the coast she made her way to the loose patches of trees all around, coming upon your hideout soon after.
Miss Aldridge was now right beneath your tree. You knew how unlikely it would be that she would miss you with that almost inhuman ability to track. It was now or never at your shot at survival.
You lunge out of the tree directly onto her with the element of surprise, sticking as many thorns as possible at her exposed flesh. And while you wrestle her on the ground for her shotgun, a devilish smirk comes across your face as you see droplets of blood all over her face and neck. She's finally getting what she deserves! You jerk the shotgun out of her hands, stand up over the fiend of a woman, load it and aim...
A loud bang rings in your ears, and your chest suddenly feels odd. In disbelief, you look down at yourself to see a bloody cavity in your right pectoral.
You're short of breath. You feel weak. Your knees give way and you fall down on the ground. You gaze up at the woman now standing in front of you, a small revolver smoking in her hand.
"I have really underestimated you, Miss Dee. Thanks to you, I'll have a few new scars on my body. Haven't had this much blood leak out of me for years. I really do admire your wit. Before you die, just know it was a pleasure having you on my island. Thank you for all the fun, I'll miss you.~"
You have been killed.
Aika
You hear another gunshot in the distance. It came for the east. Your heart was heavy tonight as you counted over the gunshots you've heard on this island. You knew you needed the rest for tomorrow, and the gunshot in the distance proved that resting was safe up in the tree you've chosen, but sleep did not come easily.
As different thoughts came into your head, each more horrible than the last, and the grief and guilt which bounced in your chest back and forth, one thought came nagging back. You almost refused to acknowledge it, but you knew there was only one way off this island.
The ferry comes in the morning; the same ferry that lies to the east where you've just heard the gunshot. That means Aldridge had been planning on going east all this time to catch the ferry goers before they left. Could she still be in the east area tomorrow morning as well, or did she know better? Would she travel into the forest where the best cover was to hide in while you waited until noon to catch the ferry? Or would she head west, an exposed place where nobody would even think to go the day of the ferry's arrival?
So far, you've managed to escape death once already. You know by now you're playing a game of wits, and this choice might just be your last if you don't think carefully.
You have the following options: A. Rest up for the night and head west. Directly opposite of the ferry, nobody would think to distance themselves even more from the ferry as it comes in tomorrow morning. B. Rest up for the night and stay here in the south. Trees are undeniably the best cover, and Aldridge might camp out at the ferry tomorrow morning too. C. Rest up for the night and head east. There is no certainty on its next arrival besides tomorrow morning, so better to risk it and leave for sure than to hang around here.
Aika's heart dropped as she heard the gunshot awake her from her stupor. She tried to remember how many gunshots she had heard the past few days and how many people might be left. She couldn't remember exactly how many people had come with her to the island, But she was certain there must be only a few left at this point. She looked out over the horizon, it was still night and she hadn't had much sleep, but she feared staying in one place for too long. She decided to get a few hours of sleep before heading out. She wanted to give the ferry a wide berth, knowing Miss Alderige would be trying to pick off any remaining survivors before they escaped. She didn't want to head there directly so she would use the trees as cover as much she could. Getting good vantage points and listening closely before making any more movements. She would walk around the ferry and scout it out before making a break for it. But she wanted to be certain that the woman was far away first. She wasn't foolish enough to go directly there and wait. Or run straight to it.
( Sorry for the long pause in the RP, guys! I've been working a lot but I am hoping that I'll have the next piece done by Sunday the latest! So get your choice in by then, Aika ;) )
You have decided to stay South in the trees, but head over steadily to the east after a short rest. By climbing through the trees, you have avoided leaving footsteps and being visible in plain sight. However, every so often the branches rattle, and you try your best to keep the volume down.
You perch on a slightly higher branch than the rest so you could overlook the ferry stop to see if Aldridge was there or not. For now, she was out of sight. With the sun rising higher each minute, you begin to wonder if maybe now would be a good chance to dash for the ferry, but something inside you screams you should stay put.
Not too much later, a boat appeared on the edge of the horizon. So Aldridge indeed wasn't lying when she said the ferry would come today in the morning. You stick with your gut and hang around in the trees, trying to find some clue of where that woman could be. As the ferry anchors itself down on the island's docks, a figure comes out of the tree line. Aldridge. So you were right all along to stick around in the south where it's safe. Now, all that's left to do is to play the waiting ga-
You lose your balance as you shift around on your branch, managing to barely grasp it for a softer landing on the one below. Your cover has been blown. You slip down the tree as fast as possible and climb onto another nearby one just to keep an eye on what that devil woman would do. She was certainly looking this way, but... she didn't pursue? It seems she was caught up talking to the ferry captain. Of course! She had to make sure she wasn't seen hunting down innocent people. For now, you were safe until the ferry left.
You prepare a to-do list in your mind while you're safe where you are. You have to move somewhere before the ferry leaves since the woman knows where you are now. You also have to find out when the next ferry arrives. Also, you weren't planning on sticking around this long. Some food needs to be found so you can keep your strength up. You keep in mind that Aldridge is an expert at hunting humans, so she will know the human thought process well. It's a battle of wits now to make sure you and Aldridge don't pick the same location, especially since it'll be somewhere in the early afternoon where the potential to be spotted is much higher.
You have the following choices: A. Head over to the mansion. It's a risky move, but maybe the henchmen would know something of the next ferry's arrival. B. Head over to the west. The west has few hiding spots, but maybe Aldridge would think that you are still in the forest? C. Shift your location more south in the forest. Perhaps Aldridge would think that somebody just spotted wouldn't remain in the forest and head west?
Aika gasped as she lost her balance, falling through the trees with a scuffle of branches and snapping twigs. She was able to grab another branch and hold herself up to cushion the majority of her landing but for now her cover was blown. She knew Aldridge would be coming for her, and that she knew exactly where she was. With the sun rising farther at about half past noon she knew she was at the disadvantage. Aldrige would be looking for her, but she knew where she needed to go, to the ferry and to find food, and that she couldn't stay put. Aldridge would first go to where she was hiding then look the surrounding area and forest to find her, then back to the ferry.
Aika decided her best bet would be to sneak away as silently as possible why aldrige was still at the ferry. Then head toward the mansion looking for any possible information on the ferry, weapons or food. She would try to load up if possible but if it was too dangerous and there were traps or several henchmen around she would have to book it to the east. After loading up she would camp out where she could have a view of the ferry but still maintain safety. So she could have a lookout for Aldreidge if she tried to stalk her.
