Thanks for clarifying the old galleries & shops situation, I was really worried for a moment. Still, that's a huge bottleneck unless they make it easy to transfer items to the new system.

Maybe this has been answered and I missed it, but... IF shops are the cause of the "issues" with 502s and whatnot: Then why do galleries, have to be limited? Gallery items do not get priced nor edited that often, do they? o.O

gal·ler·y [??al(?)r?] NOUN a room or building for the display or sale of works of art.

IF galleries have to be limited, then 5-10k unique items, would take care of any specific item collector ( BOOKS and Minions come to mind - Yes, I know books can be read to pets, but some of us like to collect all books ). The rest of the specific items [ Beanbags/Plushies/Trading Cards ] have a place. Unless maybe they make a Collection for Books/Minions, like those Beanbags and etc. :) Hope that made sense. Peace! :)

This is the most simplistic way of looking at this situation - put the shops and galleries on separate avenues of the servers. Shops have very heavy daily traffic. Galleries have almost no daily traffic. Galleries aren't where people go to buy things for quests. If there was some way of separating the two, giving them separate pages or codes or something to reduce the amount of traffic that currently are possessing both right now, there should be a way to easily have a much, MUCH higher unique item level in galleries.

you know coding. Thoughts?

You're welcome!

Yup, tell me about it. The site has been laggy with tons of 502s ever since they announced the new shops. D: That's another reason why people are so upset - staff is pushing this without first taking measures to make the transfer easy and painless for all parties.

I mean, hell, even the beta testers aren't pleased with how this was pushed and how it's being handled. I've seen GA users complaining that it's hard to use, and stress-testing with small amounts of items probably isn't going to give much of a reliable result. Can't compare a shop with like... 500 items to a shop with over 5k items.

People are still freaking out, they're still scared and they're still really pissed. The fact that Subeta doesn't have many staff members online on a weekend doesn't help. Neither do the vague answers, the question-dodging and the fact that the one person in charge of making bugfixes and tweaks is on a break for a family visit.

tl;dr - mass chaos and uproar over another forced, half-baked feature that's "going to solve all the things", the only two people that stuck around past day 1 and tried to douse the flames were Ariel and Amber. And we're once again expected to have some patience and some understanding for this.

Props to the girls for trying, but the more this goes on, the more obvious I feel it is that this new shop push hasn't been thought through as much as it should've been.

Honestly the most annoying thing about this whole situation is the GIANT HEADER on the shop search page. That when I click on ... takes me to a blank shop search page.

How the heck do I make this thing go away? Scrolling is too hard ]<

If you don't want your eyes and stuff to show up, just put them under your base layer.

So I see that the new shop search isn't always accurate. I put a 1000 point wizard token in my new shop and when I use the new shop search it either doesn't show up or it says I have 8 of them. Sure hope they get all this fixed before it goes permanent. Not putting anything else in my new shop or gallery until this is working right, afraid to lose stuff.

I'm just afraid you are very much inerror with your assumption, what causes the bugs... Maybe shops are part of the reason, but this will not be the cure, just a lot of trouble for the users:

This morning (2 something Subeta time) there were 118 (!!!) users online and I was getting a Cloudflare error on at least every 2nd click. I do not believe, that such few users can make the shops act up that much...

Perhaps if there had been staff and user discussions beforehand, many users could've brainstormed ways to implement new things on Subeta that can help the servers. I can't tell you specifically because that discussion never happened. Now, instead of thinking of alternatives, the user base is focused on gallery/shop limits specifically. But the alternatives I was talking about are a) other ways to go about this shop limit (different than what has been proposed), b) scrapping it altogether, and c) other ways on the site to reduce server load.

Just saying that "hey, we can tweak the shop limits while they're happening!" isn't really enough for me right now. Where's the guarantee that that will happen when many users are feeling so disheartened and negative (read the News Comments!)? Many people feel as if their concerns aren't being listened to NOW, while the testing is still happening so why would they be listened to later?

It seems that there is a disconnect between the staff's major issues and the user base's major issues. Yes, we are definitely worried about shop limits and about how to transfer our items out. But many are also discussing the effects on the economy, people's motivations to stay on the site and pay for a GA, what this means for regular users, etc.

Again: I think how users are seeing this issue is very different than how staff are viewing it.

Quote by Amber
and I have already posted that changes will happen to the limits. I can’t say if it’ll be a few times throughout testing, but by the time we release there will be some sort of change. I can answer a few of your other concerns: and I have been working on getting limited available items out for months. Things like old game prizes, old holiday items, old plot items, etc. We’ve firmly of the belief that you should be able to complete collections (or your personal TC goals) at any point, no matter if you’re an old user or new. We&;ll be focusing on that more in the next few months! Shop tills will be addressed (we will post on the FAQ/here/etc about it too) once Grace starts working on bugs/the last few things that need to be programmed!

I don’t want you guys to think we’re ignoring all of your questions (since I&;m answering some things and not all), there are just some things I can’t answer without finding out more from Grace because I don’t want to give you bad/incorrect information.

Once again - emphasizing that the limit will be raised unfortunately doesn't do much to be reassuring due to the site's track record. I do believe you'll go through with it this time, but it's not too hard to see why some are skeptical - and there's still no guarantee that the limit once the new system rolls out will be reasonable enough for the userbase, which adds to the concerns.

I'm aware you've been working on re-releasing old items, and it's something I appreciate a lot, but that particular point is still likely to be a problem for a while (unless everything currently retired were to be re-released in one go, but that seems rather unlikely to happen). It's one of the smaller issues, since it's a temporary problem, but I do think it's worth factoring in regardless.

On the rest... a couple other users already mentioned it, but with Grace currently being on vacation, why in the world would you announce (and essentially rush out, given the short timeframe until the new system goes live) something this drastic and this likely to be poorly received while the main person working on it isn't even around until several days after the announcement? I understand that this is an important change for the sake of the site's stability (and I assume part of why it's so urgent is because Vesnali's coming up so soon?), but this is a really poor way to handle something this big.

(Apologies for being so slow to reply to this; the last few days were awfully busy here. 😥)

Having to worry about maxing out what I put in my shop, requiring me to stash a lot of crap in my vault and try to remember to put it in the shop later, reminds me a lot of another pet site which also has low limits on the shop and I gave up trying to put stuff in it to sell a long time ago. Darn. That being said, I don't put all the junk I get from quests in my shop. Anything worth less than 5K I automatically frag.

Just tested the new shop search again. I put identical item in both my old and new shops priced the same. The one in the old shop shows up in the new shop search but the new one won't. I've re-searched and refreshed several times to make sure. I hope they get this fixed.

Day 4 and it's still a mess. The site's daily goal hasn't been above 20% since then. Two admins, and , have been doing their best to diffuse the situation despite them not having the necessary knowledge to properly address our concerns. (Thank you you two for doing the best you can.) The one who is qualified isn't around because of a vacation. The site's owner has been beating around the bush. The economy has taken a massive nosedive. There's frequent errors and lag, and they're worse than usual. I can't enjoy Subeta like I normally do because of these last few days.

How is anyone expecting us to properly test a new system when the majority of us are against the change and the system can't be debugged for a few days? This was terrible foresight on the staff's part.

I'm trying to remain patient and understanding, but the more I see users retaliate or come up with good ideas that probably won't come to fruition, the more upset I get. I won't quit Subeta, but I know it'll never be the same, which hurts a lot. I love the users here and they've made me feel like I am worth something. This is the reason why I keep fighting so hard against this change.

Moving everything from old shops/galleries to new ones will be a royal pain and days of work, but I think I would be able to deal with this change if they raised the limits of shops/galleries and items per shop so that I didn't have to make 5 galleries and 4 shops just to hold everything.

Personally I feel that this whole new shop thing is a rushed job. And indeed.. the last few days the errors are appearing even more then usual. This project should have started AFTER the Versnali event. I fear that this new shop thing will cause problems once that event is emplemented. Also.. not handy that the one with the most knowledge about this disaster is on a short vakation. Great sceduling Subeta. -shakes head- Your quality in inplementing things is sinking. How sad.

There is too little time to get things in order. I have made my new shops and galleries but I haven't stocked them. Seeing all the problems it harbours. And how.. in a search will my old shop and the new shop been kept appart? They both carry the same name.

I named my new shop and gallery with slightly different names, planning to change them to the old names after this is all over with and everything is working with the new format. But not doing anything else right now, I'm going to wait because I don't want to lose anything if something goes wrong.

I still want to understand why I can put 17 000 items in my wardrobe, but me having more than 1000 items in a gallery is breaking the site.

The wardrobe is resource intensive, so why isn't that capped as well?

There has not been a point in my nine years of playing Subeta that it has crossed my mind to just stop logging in...until now. I've put up with roll backs, lag beyond belief, changes to shop systems, the destruction of the trivia, multiple iterations of quest and npc shop changes...and I never thought eh...maybe it is time. I love my gallery, all that hard work to collect those items, and I want to display them. I do not want to tuck them away in my vault or have to maintain so many other individual galleries, especially since it will not be enough!

I just...the sheer thought of moving 18,000 unique items is mind boggling and would just take me weeks to complete. I am so frustrated.

It's Sunday. A weekend day. And daily goal is 16% with only an hour and a half to go. That should definitely tell staff something huge.
