Urg! I can't deal with the site when there's so much angry negativity. It seems like most people just saw what the current limits are, and just stopped there, and threw a tantrum without paying any attention to the note about a very low limit being established for initial testing. Then there are the people who are just convinced that the new shop system just isn't going to do anything in terms of fixing the errors, and that the initial limit is never going to be raised because they're convinced the staff are out of touch and like screwing people over. If they have such little faith in the site, if they're convinced that no new feature can be implemented successfully and will only be used to hurt users, then why are they still here?
Seriously. I don't get it either. Granted, it took me a few re-reads to understand the situation & get a feel of their plans, but if this change makes the site function properly, it needs to be done. Personally, I don't have time to waste refreshing through connection errors. I'm thrilled that they found the source of that & are actually doing something about it. And I suspect the (PITA on the users' part) manual transferring is part of the stress test, so I deal with it. I dunno, I've noticed over the years here that big changes cause panic, partly because people don't read things thoroughly and partly because the staff doesn't explain things enough. shrugs
Reading through the Admin posts, staff are doing a pretty good job explaining everything, dealing with people's concerns and setting out that there are things they just don't have the answers to yet. There's no reason to get bent out of shape and start sneering and complaining before we know how thing will end up.
I'm not looking forward to moving everything across (mostly I'm dreading having to re-price everything), but I appreciate that there's something in the works that's going to make it easier. And really, my main shop could do with a good clear out and reorganising; I'd never have done it if I didn't have to.
Well, more like they don't explain things enough the first time round. :/ But yeah, people are jumping to conclusions. Sometimes I think this testing period should have never been announced to the whole site, but on second thought, the heads up does give the non-GAs time to reorganize if they need to. Perhaps whatever mass transfer function they come up with will include prices, since you don't have the "lowest price" or autopricer features?
Sorry if that came across as me being grumpy at you! It was more of a general rant about things, rather than being a specific response. And I can appreciate needing to go over a news post to fully grasp a situation like this. It's big and scary and new and we all need to know what we're in for.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up in terms of what the mass-removal dealie will hold. Frankly, as long as it's less cumbersome than the current method of removing things from shops, I'll be happy.
Hey, don't sweat it. You're not panicking about this whole change at least! FWIW the new shops look nearly the same as the old. I can't imagine there will be much need for an adjustment, just the task of transferring items 'n such. :)
I was just going to throw everything into my vault. I had always toyed with the idea of just having a set amount of items in a shop and refilling it as it sells because I can't really be assed to price things manually and because the shops pages are tedious to use.
And the explanation makes sense. There are usually ~800 people online at any time during the day and how many of them are questing or shopping? While I'm not too happy about the gallery limits, a minion collection would seriously cut down on the items I would have. And I liked some user's suggestion about having an User Treasure Chest as that's what I use my gallery for.
Yeah the general OMG HOW DARE YOU attitude is tiring, but we go through this for everything. I'm convinced some people won't be happy unless every staff member posts hour by hour updates on what they're doing and they put up cameras in whatever they use as an office. Shop limits aren't something new. It's been suggested before and now they're doing something about it. The limits will probably be raised. The staff isn't very good at not going back on what they said or not catering to complaining users. Remember zombie skins, self-sticking, and collection mass add were all things they insisted weren't going to happen until they did.
[edit] It seems like some people are missing the part where the shops coding is causing problems when it's constantly taking hits and jumping straight to the hoarding argument.
Is it okay if I ask a question regarding a real life issue?
There's also the "just upgrade the servers" brigade, who do my head in. People have been complaining for years that Subeta have just been offering quick fixes to its issues and really need to take time and effort to fix them properly. A proper, long-term fix is implemented, and users ask for them to paper over the cracks on this one. I think Ariel is starting to run out of ways of telling people that the coding is fundamentally flawed and nothing is going to fix it except new code.
There's also a bloody petition doing the rounds, clamouring for unlimited gallery space, since that's what Subeta apparently "made a commitment to" in the past. I don't think Keith making a single idealistic comment about shop/gallery limits last year in any way counts as any sort of solid promise or commitment. So many straws being grasped at.
You can, but whether any of us will be able to help you with it remains to be seen. :)
I was thinking about it and I realized I remember watching one of Keith's videos (or something else) where he said they were getting rid of a popular feature and there was going to be backlash but that was a while back. I don't remember when but I'm wondering if this had something to do with it.
If the point of galleries is to store items you love in one place so you can look at them then a vault category would work just as well. at least until they get this more sorted out.
Yes! It was on the SubetaKeith Twitter last year, and I have been waiting impatiently to find out what's for the chop ever since. I think we can comfortably say that this is it (or one of them; it does suggest more than one thing). People will always rally against things being taken away from them, even if it benefits them in the end.
In terms of galleries, there's nothing to stop people just not moving their collections to the new system, so their extensive gallery can continue to exist in a crystallised form for the foreseeable future.
Definitely.
You make excellent points. Honestly, I'm not really bothered by this. If it needs new code to be fixed, then by all means, fix it so it works properly for the future. It's going to benefit all of us.

No idea. The most popular theory I've seen is that the days of vending are numbered, or it's at least in for a serious revamp, but it could be so many things!
Vending is a mixed feeling for me. On one hand I can see how it messes up the economy but one the other hand I love vending. I know people hate the vending exclusives but I love the idea of having items that have a special way of attainment.
I thought maybe it would balance out if vending wasn't a guaranteed reward. More like claw games since that's the image they went with. Sometimes you get an item and sometimes you just lose 2 tokens.
I would haaaate if the vending machines were capricious.... It's hard enough to get "good" items out of them already... :/
Either that, or I have awful luck.

I'm not a fan. I'm pretty big on restocking, so I'm less than happy about loads of items being brought into the economy with little effort which then lowers the price of items which used to be worth something. And most of the time, vending is't really worth it; I'm sure you can make more money just selling the tokens.
Introducing an element of risk is a pretty good idea! A while ago, I suggested having only one vending machine which pulls from three random shops (and changes daily), so that it relieves some of the stresses on certain items. Keith actually quite like the idea, but whether it ever sees the light of day is another matter. Vending seems like small potatoes compared to some of the site's other issues.
Nah I mostly get cheap common items also.
I like your idea too. Like a vending Mystery Box.
hi friends. finals are killin me. got up at 10 today though for the first time in forever! wooo beating mental illness back
how are y'all holding up?
[edit] Also just read through the past few posts, thank you @ everyone for being as chill as usual even while discussing the site changes! I appreciate u all xoxo
