All of the smart people in team A, all of the dumb people in team F... you can't divvy people up and put labels on it because no matter what someone will take issue with the label. colors, numbers, letters...
would just putting the places on each team like 1st 2nd 3rd 4th be better than actual numbers? sure people will want actual numbers but no matter how something is done, people are going to want it another way. grass is greener you know?
I don't know, honestly! I kind of like the idea of a bar graph without actual numbers on it, so you can see proportionally how everyone's doing, or what you're talking about with 1st through 4th. Has that been done before? I can't remember. I like knowing hard numbers but maybe a majority would be okay with a more general overview.
But yeah. I have a friend who joined Team Nature who says she has a whole whopping 11 participation points, 3/4 of that from cheering, because she gave up almost immediately at the beginning. :c
I don't remember if it's been done before :P I think if we're worried about other teams getting discouraged by real numbers, putting only places is the way to solve it. solve one problem and another one arises of people wanting to know actual numbers. it really depends on what is the bigger issue, and if the point of the event is to get everyone to participate, then I think the need to know actual numbers is less important.
that's true, everybody loves a good dick joke ;) And I'd suggest numbers....but surely we'll all want to be number 1. And obviously the exclamation mark team is so much cooler than the apostrophe. We're screwed whatever we do in other words. LOL
I support the bar graph idea. (Even though unidentified axis make my engineering brain cry.)
I like the idea of just numbering the places, however, I know I'd get incredibly annoyed by it after not too long. Even if it was updating every hour or what not. People would be asking for actuals the entire event. I also felt more compelled to participate after seeing the scores.
Bar graph would do a better job giving some scope. But we might be left with the same problem we have now- the bottom three teams will still have given up after seeing the scores.
I like seeing the scores! A lot! I remember being Team Tobias on the snowball throwing and seeing that'd I'd contributed like, 15 average points alone and was actively making a difference. And it made me want to do more!
I'd just like to know what I was looking at, y'know. We're still not sure if it's a total score or if it's weighted in some way. I don't know what I'm contributing. I get why they didn't show the scores immediately - all the freeloaders before - but it wasn't an issue this time so I'm not quite sure why they withheld it. Because by the time they revealed, some of us were so far behind that it was just disheartening.
I'm still donating in hopes of getting that title. You can keep the trophy if you want. :P
On a more serious note, this event reminds me of the Battle of the Bands. People saying that some things were unfair, people saying their team worked hard, people asking for more prizes. But the fact is, that even though I didn't like the MB glitch and team stickies gaining the lead, just like in the BotB, I met amazing new people, and I guess that's the point of this kind of events. They are community events after all.
I'm frankly disgusted about the mystery box glitch abuse.
If a single user did that, they'd probably be frozen. But when many people do it during an event, it's okay, because what? It's too much work trying to deduct points from the team? It stinks of laziness. :l I'd rather have had the event put on hold so justice could be served than everyone getting on with it and pretending like abuse of this glitch was in any marginal way okay. Because let's not pretend like it was.
Glad I don't care enough about this event to be madder, but I really, really hope this shit gets acted on in the future. This type of handling turns me off from participating in further events of this nature. Just my two cents.
Also I really hope this doesn't spell the end of team events. They're the best kind! I love joining forces with a smaller community and sharing a common bond, building friendships from that.
(I knew someone would point that out) by that I just meant all of the teams. I wasn't saying that a large majority of a team was cheating, or everyone on all of the teams was cheating. kind of just in a general sense "it's okay because everyone else is doing it" sorta thing. that's what is being said though - "your team did it too so it shouldn't matter if my team did it"
I like the idea of an event (just one, to try it) with people randomly assigned to teams in a way that keeps them equally sized. Red Team, Green Team, Blue Team. Job done.
🌂
for "equally sized" it would be best for the highest average score to win. Like it was in previous RS wars and the snowballfight last year (that one was per average, right? >_<).
Idk. Everything about this has put a sour taste in a lot of mouths. This was absolutely abuse of a glitch no matter how hard you want to pretend it isn't. But don't try and shrug it off like it's ok because reasons. It's not ok. Staff should have made sure that the MB was taken into account. This should have been strictly scored on RSing.
Having said that, displaying the scores early on was the wrong thing to do because the huge gap was automatically discouraging to the losing teams. We really don't need to see the other teams score tbh. All we need to see is our own teams, and our own personal score. That's it. Perhaps on the last day all the scores could be shown, idk.
Also, a participation trophy would be awesome. Like others have said, it's evidence that this event happened, and that we took part in it.
The way teams are named or created is of little importance to me. The fact that the glitch abuse was staff approved bothers me tremendously
I wasn't trying to take you literally or point out 'WELL YOU SAID EVERYBODY' I was just showing you where my comment came from. I was just playing off your words because your list made me feel like some cheering up was needed, so I was trying to cheer you. :/ I complete agree that this all sucks. Man, I feel like a kitten jumping into a dog fight here... XD
As far as the score display, I feel like you see the other team's scores in any other competition and it helps to encourage people to compete. If you see your score and give up :/ well that's a bummer. But even if I'm losing I'd rather see what I need to shoot for!
I really think that things like make it pretty clear that we can't handle competition very well. Maybe for the next big social event, instead of competing teams, it needs to be more group orientated. Take the quest drive for example. It wasn't X vs Y and the team who did the most quests got the pet slot. It was a site wide community event.
It can still be an item drive. Do another music festival, have people donate chairs and beanbags, cold drinks and sandwiches, musical instruments, and if we AS A WHOLE GROUP meet some insane donating goal (Well above 10m items, if this event is anything to go by) then we ALL get a prize. You could even still do teams, for funsies, because let's face it, people will "clique up" if there aren't teams, but maybe no team based prizes. Or, do team prizes like this one, but if the goal is met, each person gets the team item they picked. (Which actually might be how this event's team items are handled? I don't really know?)
/edit I also really don't think this should be considered a glitch. An exploit? Yes, absolutely, but you need to keep in mind, this IS NOT a restocking war. Quest prizes and vending are allowed, so why NOT the MB? Yeah, the whole multiclick thing kind of sucks, but hey, people are going to do what they can to win. If I weren't hoarding my money, and if I'd known about it, I probably would have completely clicked away. It doesn't feel abusive to me, just ... maybe a little shady, but hey we have a hustler, too. Maybe next time he can be used for people who want to "cheat" he can sell people a box of items, random amount each time, for a fairly absurd amount of money.
bird and bear and hare and fish give my love her fondest wish
I love your idea. Love love love.
I love your whole comment (at least the first unedited part), but I'd really like to see an event like the one you describe (unless it's TOO SOON for another music festival, heh). We also have the Recycle Beast. He seems a really ideal central component for an item drive miniplot.
Exploiting a glitch is against the rules. How we feel about it or how it was handled afterward doesn't make it any less against the rules.
There's only one real way to sort this out. Scrap all the scores so we have to start again. Aaaaaarrrrrggghhhhh!!!!! No thanks. :D
<3 Even with all the drama, it was really fun getting to know new people, which was the whole point of the event.
Things could have been handled better for sure, but as some of the staff have said, it's a learning experience. I like seeing a score, but it would be nicer if the teams were more even. It's tough to have a small team or a lot of freeloaders, which is why I liked the average score because it encouraged people to help each other out and raise everyone's participation. There was a lot more camaraderie in an event like that. Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I don't remember nearly as much drama, and we all got an extra prize if we passed a certain threshold for participation.
I applaud Team Sticky for all their work, and Team Mischief for all our work trying to cut their lead back down and not giving up. I do wish that the MB was never a factor so I could congratulate the winners more sincerely without a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the day because the event feels tainted by the drama and the lack of a staff response.
Not that any of this will even matter in 3.5 hours. Then I'll be looking to gain some sp in preparation of Pandemic/Survival. Skitters' clothes are so damn expensive.
I really like your idea of using the Hustler in an event. He could give you a bunch of items that work, a bunch that don't, or nothing. He is a hustler after all. :) I think your idea is wonderful overall and could really help foster a sense of community as well as competition. Maybe have a different trophy for whichever team has the most average participation or something so people are still super driven the whole way through.
The Recycle Beast would be a lot of fun. I love him
