yeah. tax on shop. i just raise my price by 5% then. much like in real life, when new tax is introduced, businesses started to increase the prices because of the "cost increase".
While I wouldn't love a tax for personal selfish reasons (lol), I do see the reasoning behind it, and 3% isn't like 50%.
My only concern if it comes into fruition is:
Unless I'm reading that wrong, and taking it out of the profit means that pricing at 1,000,000 means an item will appear as 1,000,000 on SS, but when someone buys that item, only 970,000 will appear in profits? (I would prefer this over the scenario I outlined above). And if someone cares enough to want to get 1mil for that item versus 970,000 they can calculate it so they price at 1,030,000 instead?
I just don't want to have to do extra calculating when pricing b/c manually pricing items is already not super fun haha. But I'm betting this is an unfounded concern but wanted to voice it just in case (:
A lot of this is about how people perceive things as most of the changes have a very small impact on one's savings on a personal level.
I think the word tax is agressive. It reminds people of the real, scary world that exists outside of their computers. So we keep the concept, but change the wording. Call it.. a shop tribute instead. A tribute towards Subeta, that in return, allows you to have as many things in your shop as possible. Of course - since this has been free all along, you'll get some backlash at first, but moving forward people would understand better.
Also, how do you feel about gambling ? Not low end gambling like the slots, but a real big bad lottery / slots ? You can set it so that 75% of the sP that people put into this major slot game gets redistributed (that's a 25% "tax" right there), and a small part of it goes towards a massive jackpot that you have a 1 in 200 000 spins chance to get ? The chances will appear slim, but if each spin is.. 10K, then it could get you something like a several hundred million jackpot (you have to deduce the "tax" and the money that goes towards other smaller money prizes).
Isn't it everyone's dream to win the lottery ? This makes it realistic-ish. Sell the dream.

This is one of the STUPID things that I did when I started Subeta. The slots game doesn't take any sP away, every sP you spend on it goes into the jackpot for someone to win.
💖 ✨ 🤗
I feel like people don't play the slots that much anyway for it to really matter. But a large scale slots machine could be very popular. There's gamblers everywhere if there's a golden carrot to be won.

So, gl. srsly, gl.
If you were to realistically think about this, you wouldn't raise all your prices 5%. Prices of items on Subeta fluctuate a lot more than 5% to begin with. Everyday there's someone undercutting items in your shop by 20% and no one flips a table over it.
There isn't one item [user sold] that has kept a +/- 5% price for a year anyway. You wouldn't even notice the change.
Sounds like a fun thing to spend a Sunday doing - handrepricing all 5000 items in your shop to account for the new tax. By the time you get it over with, half of them were undercut and you just wasted your time.

Aside from "tax" I still like the idea of having to pay to increase your shop size. A new shinier version of the slots would also do well at the 75% redistribution mentioned especially if it also was tied to some form of CSC for reaching certain jackpot amounts, so that people without access to a means of purchasing csc can gamble away their sp. However I could see how this could be tied to an "official" price point, but if it weren't done every jackpot I think it would be ok, like perhaps tied to subeta holidays in which the NPC back the csc portion of the slots. A million times yes though to custom forum titles or user icons so long as it doesn't look like the user icons we have now but in different colors because that would be confusing.
We can all agree something needs to be done regarding the devalued sPs.
More than 700 billion sPs was generated between last January to today. Compared to the 161 billion generated between September 2012 to that same aforementioned January 2014.
Now while I'm wondering what happened between 2014 to 2015, inflation is unfortunately something that will never stop. The goal is to keep it at a slow rate.
Unless Keith decides to convert and replace the sP with a new currency.

introducing ksP! similar to kCal but we just refer to those as calories.
I don't even need a promise of money to gamble on something. Give the thing good exclusive wearables and you're in business because of how many people love clothes.
nah. items are too easily devalued. if you put exclusive items in there, it'll be like exclusive items in the vending machines except you're paying sP instead of tokens (which is the same thing if you buy your tokens)
I mean they could be a plus, or achievement tied, but not the main purpose of.

So... what I am understanding from the news post and this thread is that the 3% interest is being removed for a 3% tax instead. The tax doesn't affect the user buying from the user shop but rather the person you purchase from?
Trying to grasp all this because reading through comments about everyone fuming over this being changed is making my head spin. >_<
If this actually helps I can deal with it but it makes me worried in the same way. Wont get to into it on here so.
I'm finding it a scream that users are claiming a stealth 3% tax is going to make them broke and the economy grind to a halt while ignoring the 97% they're going to be raking in. As points out, the idea that everyone is going to rise their prices by 3% as a result is hilarious when our economy is so volatile. The user-to-user transactions are a massive problem that few people consider; I'm willing to bet most complaining imagine the sP they spend in user shops disappears into the void when instead, it fuels more spending power and fuels more inflation.
Sigh. I wish those who hit the HYSTERIA button would think why the site would want to introduce something that may be this unpopular. Particularly when it's those who hit that button time and time again. The site isn't trying to fuck with you. You'll forget about the change in a couple of the years. The site will benefit in the long run.
Another idea: Give out rewards for deleting sp. Some achievements and/or items.
For example: Deleting 1x 10,000 sP voucher --> giving out an achievement Deleting 10x 10,000 sp voucher --> giving out a new book and an achievement Deleting 25x 10,000 sp voucher --> giving out a weapon and an achievement Deleting 40x 10,000 sp voucher --> giving out some clothing and an achievement Deleting 100x 10,000 voucher --> giving out 20 CSC and an achievement Deleting 125x 10,000 voucher --> giving out a couple of stats for the active pet and a final achievement
I actually like how straight forward the idea is on its own, haha. I'm sure there will be players that will do it.
I liked the idea of the mega lottery but being a complete ass right now I'm going to pull from the other site and say I've always pondered why we don't do a wishing well type thing here. You pay x amount of sP for a chance to win a wish item. Chances are, even if it's a HUGE ticket item, the person wouldn't have purchased it anyway. Seriously, I want Natasha, but I'm never going to buy it... never. But I'd throw sP away each day for a chance to do it. I'd throw away all kinds of sP if I thought I could win some of the really impossible books, or even some of the books from the referral shop I'd never get. Seriously, take it all for those books.
As far as the conversations of raising prices, that's just.. ridiculous. You won't sell items if you're not the cheapest and not everyone is going to do it. People will throw a fit but eventually they'll come around and just breathe like they did when haggling was gone. I'm for taxes in some aspect. Either a flat tax across the board once a week or once a day or whatever, or shop taxes. Whatever needs to be done. Also, I can't wait for CSC things to transfer to sP. There would be no moment where auto-training would not be happening for me at that point. Quite honestly, I'd probably start training more pets. Right now I'm CSC broke and am waiting (very impatiently) for the ability to do so at the end of the month.
Done and done.
Also in regards to the slots idea, while that would probably be more popular because its a "game" something like a daily/monthly 50/50 lottery/raffle might work. Sure the rich could pump more into and have increased odds but at the same time, the numbers wouldn't be disclosed except if people came forward after winning so they wouldn't know if they were going above and beyond the 50%. I expect if it were weekly or monthly it also wouldn't have as much of a steady or patterned amount paying out, even if people where sharing the figures. Slots is good though becuase people like things like that better because they're more interactive. if you specifically make it so that it can only pay out less than whats coming in like said, it could only ever be a sink... if X% of the price to play goes towards a pool that small prizes are always drawn from and Y% of the price to play goes towards the big jackpot, and X+Y<100 It's a definite sink :P.
Things like that are just one and done. So one person removes 1.25m, that's really insignificant ya know?
who says it has to be a one time thing? Or that the sp deleted wouldn´t be higher. (; It could be every three months or every month or when too much sp are generated in general. Get the last achievement when you delete 10.mill sp or 50.mill sp. Choose the deleted sp as high as needed.
My idea was just an example not an thought through plan. Be a little creative and expand the idea: First a sp deleting where you can get new plushies and new plushies achievements, the next month the same thing with beanbags, the next months with clothes or battle stats and so on.
The whole point is: Give the users something in return for deleting sp willingly. And pretend deleting sp is another game :3
I don't like the idea of shop taxes, but if you call it 'transaction fee', 'profit insurance' or 'Sebastian Phoenixs next large Acquisition' I can imagine what I'm actually charged for as a shop owner and feel at ease.
Since, you know, we all want to see Sebastian happy. And insurances are good.
