Up until I saw this thread right now, I actually forgot that Subeta was on a one-name-one-pet only system! I'm pleasantly surprised, because it means that earlier today I managed to make a new pet with a name I wanted out of pure luck!

name clearings literally make me SO stressed lmao i hate them

i have a list i check up on but they're pretty much all taken by people who do great things with them so that's halfway cool at least (i'm greedy i'm sorry)

i suck at getting names, and don't usually try. plus i just don't want a heart attack at 20 u feel

the very first name i got in a clearing was evangeline and i'm still. so. excited!! about that. i love her, love her name. i did good. last name i got would be clare in a rare name clearing moment of motivation.

usually i end up finding names that are open, i guess i have weird name taste lol

However, I feel like I should say something about the whole "snagging a pet name for a friend" deal: I don&;t agree with it. In my view, it&;s unfair to other people who may be very interested in the name themselves. I also view it as cheating, sort of, but that&;s just my personal view. I would personally NEVER snag a name (or a bunch) simply because my friend was busy at work. Sorry, but if you snooze, you loose, and besides, it&;s just a name: it&;s not the end of the world. I&;ve also seen that there are some people who tend to hoard pets/names and let them sit and stagnate, and never do anything with their stats/profiles/TC/etc.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but Subeta is, in part, a social site and grabbing a name for a friend is no worse than people who lend for achievements or really anything else that people get help with on here. Pets are one of the only things on site that have no value outside of personal value, but for some people (myself included) that value is still pretty significant.

I've never had a lot of help getting names- my friends would usually fill up their slots before me or I just didn't want to concern them with it, but damn, I can't imagine refusing to help someone with something they might have been looking forward to for three years just because they're stuck at work/school/have jury duty/etc. Sometimes calling in sick isn't always an option, even when you feel like Subeta is the bigger priority.

I can 100% understand why people who don't have friends to ask might get discouraged and view it as unfair, but it's very possible for the average user to get good names for his/herself.

This is gonna be my last post on this issue. Please don't Ping me, as this is only gonna end up going in a circular argument. I will not change my opinion, and I doubt anyone else will, either.

In your opinion. I have a different opinion on the matter. And I don't believe in lending for achievements, either. It's cheating to do so. Relying on other people to get something that's meant to be earned on one's own also cheapens the achievement itself. What's the point of getting an achievement if you cheated to get it?

They're just virtual pixels. I don't see why people give them so much sentimental value and significance. Of all the nonsensical things to put value in of any kind, it's Subeta. Sure, buying CSC gets one items and other perks, and helps to keep the site running. That, I agree with. However, speaking with my own experience with the Nordanner group on DeviantART, there's taking an interest in something - and then there's putting so much importance in something "that you might die if you don't have it". This has gotten to be so prevalent in Nordanners (which in itself is a virtual horse pet game) that people are literally spending thousands of dollars over a pixel pony design.

Sorry, but someone calling in sick just to grab a pet name on Subeta? In my opinion, that's a pretty stupid thing to do. Sick days are supposed to be for when one is actually sick. And if a virtual pet name is what they've been looking forward to most for three years, then that person seriously needs to reconsider his/her priorities. There are a lot more things to do and value in life than a virtual pet site, or a pixel pet.

It's not cheating unless it's against the site rules, which it isn't. Also it's rather hypocritical of you to have such morals about clearings and achievements but yet you currently have a board asking for help in creating a Bhakoru. You could wait until one goes up for adoption and buy csc to switch names with your current pet if earning things yourself is an important part of the game to you.

They're a creative outlet. Recreational time is just as important to your overall mood and health as proper sleep. Playing Subeta isn't any less valid than going to the movies or on a vacation, no matter how much negative people attempt to shame you into thinking so. You do those things simply for the experience as well.

There are many companies that have sick days and vacation as part of their benefits package and it's in your best interest to use them every year. But even for people who work part-time or attend school and don't have that luxury, it's really not up to you to decide what their priorities should be. No one has said anything about "dying without that name" or that they don't have other hobbies, but when you've been playing a site for ten years and pet names are an important part of that site for you, yeah, it's not uncommon for someone to play the waiting game for two or three years for one name.

I love the new clearing system, but I have a love/hate relationship with clearings themselves, since they can be so stressful |D And it really bites when you miss a name, particularly if you were waiting on it for a long time. I have a list I keep tabs on, and I update it accordingly.

However, in the whole "helping friends" thing, I don't see any problem with it. /shrugs I help friends all the time with clearings when I'm able to, and they've done the same - It's not cheating at all. Yeah, it sucks when you try for a name and miss it and a person's friend gets it, but honestly that means that person wanted that name badly enough that they had friends help them.

A big part about subeta is the community, so as long as you're being nice and making friends, you should atleast have the opportunity - somewhere along the line - to being able to have the support of friends. If you don't want other people's help, that's your own choice, but having that support really helps with anxieties. And if you miss a name and you're particularly upset that a person's friend got it, just remember that even if they didn't get it, doesn't mean you would have either. -shrugs-

I love the thrill of grabbing a name in a clearing, but unfortunately most of the names I'm interested are taken by active users, so I don't get quite as excited about clearings as I once did.

Also can I just add:

i kind of miss the old clearings; a bunch of names clearing at once, 70% of the users literally crashing the site to get a name, and the huge RUSH that filled that one random afternoon whenever a clearing was scheduled. that's just me being nostalgic though, because the new system is definitely better for, you know, ACTUALLY getting the names you want. i love clearings and i look up names fairly often and barely ever find any i want that are clearing soon but when i do... it's a superb feel!

Well, I don't really like the current system. I haven't managed to get any that I've been after without help, or dumb luck stumbling upon it. I'm just not fast enough, I guess? IDK. It's less heart attack inducing than the old way, at least.

I used to have a list, but I don't anymore since literally the two pets I'd give my left arm for are on the same account of someone who logs in once every 6 to 8 months (for the past 4 years seriously) and It's killing me. But otherwise, I don't really stalk any. I have most of the names I really super wanted.

I'm thankful for the new system. I don't stalk names relentlessly or have a list, but I do have one name with my eye on it. I'm waiting on my loyalty box though.

Meh, I wish I could say the same... I kinda miss my old working times because of this but well, tbh I for myself change my work shift whenever a name I want is about to become available or I ask to get the said day off - and yes, this is MY decision to do or not to and I also do the above said to help other people to get the names they want.

Wait wait wait, how the hell is having a friend helping you get a name "cheating"? Is that really any different than a friend restocking some item and then giving it to you or making you a pet look-up for your pet that you hope will win spotlight? Sure, not the best examples, but the idea is the same. If you can have someone help you out, why not?

Also, and I really don't want to start an argument, but I feel I must defend myself on the whole "hoarding pet names" thing, since honestly sometimes I feel bad that I have tons of pets and only a handful of them have stories or TCs. But then again, is it really anyone's business what I or anyone else does with our pets? Sadly, most of us aren't super humans who can whip up great stories and profiles within days, even months. I've begun to keep track on my profile of who I am working on and my progress, mostly for my own sake because it keeps me focused, but...

I don't think it's fair to accuse people of hoarding names just because they're not doing what you think they should be doing with the name. Maybe it's sentimental or special to them and just having the name means a lot to them (Squirt is that name for me, although one day I will get him a profile when I do that, though, is my business and nobody else's).

And one more thing (and no I'm not going to ping you because I frankly don't want a debate either), but lol who cares how people spend their money or how they spend their free time? If they have the money and are not harming anyone else in spending it, who really cares if someone wants to spend hundreds of dollars on pet designs or "pixels"? Who cares if they put a lot of importance into their pets even if they are just said "pixels"? It's no different than playing video games for hours on end or binge watching shows and movies on Netflix or any other seemingly frivolous things people do to pass time. Again, no need to worry about what someone else is doing unless perhaps it impacts you in some serious way (physically or mentally. And I doubt the amount of attention people pay to their virtual pets is doing harm to anyone on either front).

I got Kolchack on a name clearing quite a while ago, tho I don't have him anymore. And I doubt there were many people gunning for it. There are a couple pet names I've wanted that others have, but I don't tend to watch them unless that person is already inactive to begin with. I'm not one for waiting. :P So I usually find another option I'm just as happy with in a couple days. Subeta's low user count is great for that, always lots of names available.

I agree with Kestrel. Definitely this. Whatever enriches your life you should never feel guilty about spending time or even money on. Hobbies keep you happy and healthy (at least, that's the ideal right?).

I don't stalk names, per se. When I'm looking for a new pet name, I'll do a search for them, and if they aren't available at the time, I'll just go with something else. I probably wont even look at them again until an official clearing is taking place, and by then I've usually forgotten about the name I was looking for earlier.

Recently I was super super lucky to find both Geodude and Graveler available. <3 They're my all time favorite pokemon and atm, the only names I'm seriously interested in, besides Golum. But that one is on a very active account, so I don't see that happening for a very long time to come. ahaha.

And at the next clearing I'll probably just be stalking more pokemon names. :o
