As you should! It's one thing not to pay you for hours you didn't work while the salon was closed. It's another to not pay hours you already worked. I can only assume illegal things like that could end up with a shut down? It's amazing to me anyone would even try something that dumb?! Are you looking around for other jobs? I would if I were you - this type of treatment is terrible.

We're assuming we're going bankrupt considering she doesn't have enough money to pay her staff for time owed.
I called the labour board this morning and I can file a claim against her.. but I don't want to do that while I still work for her and feel her wrath.
I am job hunting. I actually had a phone interview this morning and just got home from a job interview at a little up and coming spa. I'm just very torn as to what to do. I've kind of decided in the last few weeks that I don't want to work on the weekends anymore. I never get a chance to see Nathan and have any kind of downtime day with him. I know it's a tall order to ask that of a spa whose bread and butter is Saturdays. The woman I just met with seems awesome and said she could probably swing Saturdays off for me.. but Sundays would be a requirement. I don't know what to do. I need someone to talk it through with me! (I'm such a girl!)
Reading your post about your job... I'd leave and start the new place, if your job tends to involve heavy weekends you're lucky if you can swing one of those days off! Even if it's just once in a while. Even if you only spend a day with Nathan once a fortnight or month make it a really really special day and go to see a play or a movie and go out to dinner or something. Your old job sounded so dodgy from the start, so leaving and filing a claim would be the best thing for you and everyone else working there.
I have a job interview tomorrow for a teaching assistant job, it's quite far away so I'm hoping the one I applied to in my town gets back to me as well as they're calling people in for interviews on Friday. I'd rather do a 20 minute walk than a car, train and a 30 minute walk!
okay so i went mia again
but on the bright side i got a tank and i can't wait to add fish

That sounds like good reasoning, unfortunately :/ It seems the shut down exposed that they rely on every dollar coming in and have no reserves. It sounds like it's in your best interest to get out. It's probably smart to hold off until after you leave to fill any paperwork for lost wages though, assuming you can afford it?.
If the new salon is meeting you halfway, that's better than nothing? Especially if it's at a more stable business? Are you happy having saturdays? If not, keep looking. Nothing wrong with not wanting to compromise that one thing. Though if weekends are important to the salon business, so you might have to consider another career path? You said you were thinking about trying something else anyway?
It's not being a girl to think and talk things through, it's smart! ;) Making snap decisions rarely leads anywhere good.

Yeah you're totally both right. Getting met half way by a new salon would definitely be a step up from where I am now. I hope she calls me today and offers me the job! We have money orders waiting for us at work apparently for full amounts that we're owed. We think the owner got threatened by the labour board so that's why we all of a sudden got a full paycheck. On Monday she was telling us all that we'd get some kind of installment, but nothing big. So that's positive.. but I just don't trust her anymore. The whole job has been a huge lie so I'm kind of glad I was looking for something else. Just gotta make sure that the new employer is okay with me curling in the fall!
How'd the interview go, Jade?
Good luck! I hope they call you! But it defo sounded a bit off from the get go and they weren't training you properly. I actually went to the spa-kind of place near me for a dermabrasion this evening which was meant to be my mums but she treated me as my interview was good.
It was more of a preparation for the job at the school than an interview itself, it's basically an education agency that hires out staff to schools and they do all the finding for you. I have my fingers crossed that a primary school I applied for will call me tomorrow because I actually went there and I would love to work there!
Well, that's good news. It's the least you all deserved. Not getting paid for work you did is just awful and I'd imagine destroys any respect for your employer. I've never been in that position, but there was always talk at my old job how the owner was basically funding the company with her dad's deep pockets. So we were subject to the 'are we going to be out of jobs?' gossip
Good luck with the new job hunting! Crossing my fingers for you to get a callback. Do you like the location? The place you work now is further than you'd like, right?
[Sorry, missed your last post, until the pic caught my eye this time, haha] Yay fish, what kind did you get? My mom was always so anti-pets growing up, we weren't even allowed fish, haha. Thus, I have never been a pet owner.

heh no worries! i don't have any yet, but i'm planning on getting an oranda, a black moor, and a ryukin ___ i'm sorry you never had any pets! are you planning to get any pets when you live on your own (assuming you don't already)?
Cool, you'll have to show us pics when you get them! Never heard of any of those, but they sound cool. Are they all types that will get along?
I always wanted a kitten! Plan is to get one eventually :)

oKAY SO i got two today! this is oscar and this is what the other one looks like (lses black patches) but he's still pretty stressed out so i don't want to wave my camera in his face and stress him out more. idk what to call him yet yep! fancy goldfish are generally dumb and lazy easy-going!
aaaaw what kind of kitten? ;v; do you have any names yet?
Yeah it's a little far now, I would definitely not go any further. This other place I could drive to instead of bus, which could be nice!
Still no word yet, but I'm hoping to hear something tomorrow!
Taking transit is better for the environment though :) But yeah, getting back some of your commute would be nice, too. Good luck, fingers still crossed for you!
They looks awesome. Much better than goldfish, haha. Love the name Oscar too. Serious question: how do you know fish are stressed? I know zero about fish.
No name or type planned yet, exactly! I think I'd like to go to the shelter and pick one out. I always wanted a little grey one but maybe I'd change my mind when it came time to pick one.

thank youuu ;w; i already adore them! picked the name oscar lmao i suck at naming pets cx uhhh mostly i think they are very flinchy / try to hide. if they're stressed, they're way more prone to picking up diseases too, so that's a signal. new fish are almost always stressed afaik.
grey kittens are so cute ;w; please show pictures when you do get one! kittens are the best.
Still no word.. but I have two more interview possibilities! Applied to 4 jobs and all 4 wanted to meet with me.. so that's an ego boost! ;)
I agree, naming pets is hard! There's a fine balance between good pet and human names. Ah that makes sense - I was under the impression fish were always flinchy, but I'm a stranger to all fish, so yeah.
If I ever have pics, I promise to share the cute :)
Nice, that must be an awesome feeling! I think my ratio was one response to 200 apps haha. Any news back yet? Are there many that you really want more than the others?

i ended up naming the other one carl cx carl isn't doing too well, i hope he's going to recover soon. sort of, i guess! stressed fish are just.. more flinchy? ahah.
yesss that sounds like a great plan ~ how are you doing today?
Aha Carl, perfect like a grumpy old dude, great for fishies. Hope the poor guy feels better soon.
Good, getting back into the swing after the long weekend! Day's already almost over though, yay.

I have a second interview with the one from last week tomorrow.. and I had another interview somewhere new today. I'm leaning towards that one I think.. but the schedule isn't as good as the other :(
my mom named him (': she named him karel, which is the dutch version of carl. same thing. thanks, i hope so too ;w; i just got back from the pet store, bought some medicine + new plants so i reckon he'll be fine.
mondays are always the worst cx did you manage to recover a little?
good luck with your interviews! o:
